To think psychics are all fakes?

LambinsideaDuckinsideaTrout · 11/12/2013 08:33

I don't like that they take peoples money when they are in a vulnerable place, lost loved ones etc. It's immoral. Just my opinion.

Thoughts? Opinions?

There are two types:

The outright con merchants (the majority)
The deluded weirdos who genuinely believe they can talk to dead people

Either way - fake or mistake - they should not be taking money from vulnerable people. It's sick and disgusting.

I'll get shouted at for this as usual but I'll repeat it......DELUDED WEIRDOS

No one can talk to people who no longer exist, anyone who thinks they can needs their head read.

scottishmummy · 11/12/2013 09:19

They prey on the vulnerabilities one feels when you miss a loved one
Hard as it is,when someone you love dies they're gone to you
No one,no special powers will contact them.thats the reality that hurts death is final

MalcolmTuckersMistress · 11/12/2013 09:20

Absolutely of course they're all fakes. It infuriates me that their "practice" is even legal and not classed as fraud. Anyone who throws money away at these people is an absolute fool! I realise that sometimes people need something to turn to to get comfort from at certain times of their life, a bit like with religion I guess (which some would argue is on the same level) but these random "psychics" who exploit people for their money are just con artists! Plain and simple.

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/12/2013 09:20

Yabu to say that all psychics are fakes. Many are no question. But some people do have the ability. I do think making money is wrong though. I couldnt charge grief stricken people .

LambinsideaDuckinsideaTrout · 11/12/2013 09:21

Yes, Derren Brown is a prime example of an honest psychic. Very good at it, and reveals how he does it. How they all do it IMO.

Huge shopping centre near me has an in house tarot reader. I can't get over how big the queue gets before she even opens up her little hut in the morning Hmm

gamerchick · 11/12/2013 09:22

Nobody is supposed to use any gift to make money. As for thinking they're all fakes people believe in what they want. But we all have some sort of twinkle... even if it's just thinking of somebody and they ring as you do it. We just dismiss it because it doesn't make sense.

mrsjay · 11/12/2013 09:24

My DH old Auntie used to read the local paper tea leaves but would never charge people I was at MIls one night when she was doing readings and was talking about a neighbour of mine who had died as if he was my best friend i hardly knew the man but he was watching over me whataloadofshit but auntie had many people go to her she was an elder in the spiritulist church and MIL didnt make any decision without consulting her, I can't get over how many people think this is a real thing, although I do think if they get comfort in it then i suppose thats ok and do these phsycics (sp) really believe themselves it is odd imo

fluffiphlox · 11/12/2013 09:25

Of course they're all fakes. Why ask?Smile

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 11/12/2013 09:26

My brother worked backstage at a psychic Sally gig once and hinted of the fakery of it all. I'll have to ask him what really happened.

I really like Derren Brown, such a clever man. But also shows how it's done.

lottieandmia · 11/12/2013 09:26

YABU to say that they are all fakes - you don't personally know everyone who claims to have psychic ability. If you think that there is nothing beyond death then it's not surprising you feel the way you do.

ItsOkayItsJustMyBreath · 11/12/2013 09:27

Anyone in any doubt should watch this

.

It is all a con.

YANBU.

HettiePetal · 11/12/2013 09:27

Also - and I will be yelled at for this too.....

But......

I bet most of the people queuing outside that tarot reader booth are women.

As are most (not all, but most) people who visit psychics.

There are no horoscopes in men's magazines or advice columns run by "clairvoyants". These are found exclusively in women's magazines.

Why?

The question is - why are women so much more willing to embrace obvious bullshit than men?

As a woman, I would genuinely like to understand this.

MonkeysInTheFog · 11/12/2013 09:27

YANBU

Although I've no doubt some of them genuinely BELIEVE they can do what they claim to do. Also I'm not sure why some people think that if someone doesn't charge it means they're more likely to be genuine. Money isn't always the motivating factor although I do think that the ones who don't charge are more likely to belong in the "deluded" camp than the "cynical fraudster" one.

The likes of psychic Sally however.....evil. Anyone who makes millions of pounds actually impersonating dead children needs jailing.

lottieandmia · 11/12/2013 09:28

Lots of people with psychic ability don't try to make money out of it.

FayeKorgasm · 11/12/2013 09:29

I would recommend advising any psychic to contact the James Randi organisation. They will pay $1mil to anyone who can complete their challenge. As yet no one has!

Grin
mrsjay · 11/12/2013 09:30

I had somebody on my facebook who claimed to have the gift I saw somebody ask them where keys were the friend said all i am seeing is a sofa , well most of us lose things down the bloody couch don't we Grin

mrsjay · 11/12/2013 09:31

They will pay $1mil to anyone who can complete their challenge. As yet no one has!

Paul zennon (i think his name is ) was on tv a while ago talking about asking a phsycic why nobody had claimed it yet

hackmum · 11/12/2013 09:32

I've seen Derren Brown do it on tv, and I've seen lots of "psychics" do it on tv too. It's striking that Brown is much more impressive at it than the "psychics". Most of them are very very feeble - things like, "I'm getting the initial M - is there someone in the audience with the initial M?" There is? No shit, Sherlock! And "He's saying that you hurt your knee falling over when you were little" or "She says you've been thinking of moving house".

MonkeysInTheFog · 11/12/2013 09:33

Lottie - I agree that there are plenty of deluded people who don't charge. People are complicated. Money isn't the only reason people do this. Why do you think that you'll often hear someone who's been to see a psychic excitedly say "....and she said I was very psychic myself!!!"? Classic flattery tactic guaranteed to make a punter feel special :)

People like to feel special ;)

DrSeuss · 11/12/2013 09:33

Without wishing to appear boastful, I have found during the last forty years that I have a talent for reading people. I just know stuff they didn't tell me. However, I believe that is because I am a people person who observes others carefully and is naturally quite empathetic. I do not believe that I am psychic!

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/12/2013 09:33

See I find this stuff fascinating. Haven't psychics helped solve police cases before?

I don't believe in the likes of Sally or other tv "psychics" probably because I don't think it's a gift that works on command. So the idea that it's going to kick in for an hours tv slot I really don't get.

But I do believe!!

MrsLouisTheroux · 11/12/2013 09:34

Hettie Exactly! I'd like to know too.

LambinsideaDuckinsideaTrout · 11/12/2013 09:34

I have no idea whether there is anything beyond death, lottie so many possibilities, reincarnation etc. I guess I will find out for sure one day. We all will. I am more leaning towards believing when you're dead, that's it though.

Already conceded some don't ask for money.

OP posts:
lottieandmia · 11/12/2013 09:34

But some people who are psychic don't discuss it with other people at all.
