It's great she had a drug free birth.

But I've seen a few posts today implying that those of us who didn't manage a drug free birth or a 'drugged birth' as one person said somewhere else, are lesser mothers? It just seems like it's yet another stick for mothers to beat each other with.

Does it really matter whether anyone has a "drug free" birth or not? As long as the baby and mother are well and healthy then I really don't see what it matters other than the sheer embarrassment of what you can say when you're under the influence of "gas and air" Blush

Has she actually come out and mentioned anything to do with the birth? All I heard from the official report was that she didnt need a c section.

All that matters to me is the health of the mother and baby. The birth is only a tiny part of being a mother, what comes after is more important Smile

What is drug free though? No paracetamol or cocodamol?

No gas and air, is gas and air a drug???

Of just no opiates or epidural?

Well said hiddenhome. I remember reading that Kate Winslet had a wonderful natural birth around the time I had my Dd. I felt horribly inadequate because mine was awful, full of interventions and drugs and generally as far from my idea of what it would be like as you can imagine. I later read that she had a c section but didn't want to tell anyone because she felt bad about it. Such a shame that we should feel like this. I hate it, I really do.

Dressed up, hair done, heels on, that couldn't have been fun with blood, gore and stitches going on bellow.

We don't know she had a drug free birth. It's all press speculation. And tbf, you can't blame her for that.

Anyone who is using this press misinformation to pick on other mothers is a tit, and not worth your time though.

No she didn't I'mNot, but I've always felt a bit crap about needing an epidural, I remember there was a woman on my ward the next day going on and on about having a 9lb baby and not needing any drugs and I felt crap, having given in at 4cm and begged for an epidural despite promising myself I'd do it drug free.

I don't really care how someone has their baby, the important thing is the baby is born safely.

Some people have horrible, traumatic births irrespective of delivery method and I feel for those Women. They were the unlucky ones where things didn't go to plan

I've had a birth with pethedine
A birth without anything but gas and air that made me sick
A crash csection
A vbac without anything

And you know what they were all so different and I couldn't have done them any other way and I don't give a shit what other people say, or imply. It bypasses me completely and it's a lovely way to be

There's nothing pretty about having a drug free birth. I had a drug free birth. I was pleading and begging for drugs, any drugs, JUST GIVE ME DRUGS!!!!!! So they tried to get me to the ambulance so I could have gas and air ... and baby was born in the street before I could get in. Blush

So why have her in your title? 'Well done kate but' implies she has fallen down somewhere in her behaviour. Its nothing to do with her. Someone completely unconnected to her said this- put them in your title!

what does it matter to any of us how she chose to manage her delivery - everyone's experience is different. you get what nature/circumstance throws at you - some people are luckier than others, that's all.

No on knows what her birth was like, nor should we.

Plus, it doesn't matter, it really doesn't.

As my children have got older, it matters less that my births were pretty shit, drug addled experiences. I used to get irritated by people going on about drug free births and felt slightly ashamed that ds1 was born following an epidural and forceps but now I don't care, I really don't!

Ds2 was a better birth but still had pethidine. It was administered not long before he was born though and I swear it don't work! Made me sleep after the birth but I'm sure it did fuck all for the pain.

Pain is the most subjective of experiences and everyone's pain threshold is different.
