to not like Carrie Bradshaw?

(Not sure if this is the right section but ...)

I recently re-watched the whole of S&TC (ill in bed with not much else to do), and never realised before what a whiney, needy and obsessive woman she really is.

She only apologised to Natasha for having an affair with her husband because she couldn't believe someone in New York could hate her that much Hmm

She willingly went back to Big countless times regardless of knowing that she was going to be hurt again.

She screwed over Aidan twice

I could go on Grin

I know she's just a fictional character and the show would be boring if she was perfect.

But aibu to really dislike her?

I do think she's too much up her own hole.

Tubegirl · 28/02/2013 16:48

YANBU, I really only thought this as I sat through the offensive carcrash that is SATC2 but having since rewatched some classic SATC you're right - she's awful but awful in good shoes. I always wanted to be Miranda anyway but with Carrie's shoes. Smile

DieWilde13 · 28/02/2013 16:48

Couldn't agree more. I never understood the appeal of the show, to be honest.

Tubegirl · 28/02/2013 16:48

And even though they're a bit naff I still kinda want a name necklace...

TheCrackFox · 28/02/2013 16:56

And she made Charlotte give her old engagement ring because Carrie had spent all her money on ridiculous shoes. Who treats a friend like that? Only a total arse.

Fairypants · 28/02/2013 16:58

I couldn't watch the series because I found her so annoying! And also, just not even attractive despite the hype.

lolaflores · 28/02/2013 16:59

Skinny, stupid, shallow waste of flesh. I watched an episode, to give it the benefit of the doubt, was unswayed by it. SJP is a one trick pony, and the films were dire beyond all possible belife. The product placement, the tissue thin plots and obscene devotion to bits of clothing and a cushion that cost 200 dollars?!?!

I sat through a bit of the first film (for my DD1) and dug my heels in on the others. No No No No. This is liberated women? Doing it for themselves? by the way, how did it get a 12 rating when a great big penis swings through shot courtesy of the shaggy one's neighbour having an outside shower? HOW

YANBU

It dawned on me half way through series 3 that was was a neurotic whingebag and no wonder she couldn't keep a bloke.

I quite fancied Big, even though he was an arsehole. All of the other men in that programme though, dodgy. Apart from lovely Steve who married Miranda.

RainbowCrystals · 28/02/2013 17:06

How did I forget that point! Makes me dislike her even more now.

It's not up to Charlotte to sort out Carrie's (a 30 something year old womans) financial mess. Carrie should have eBayed her shoes instead of taking the ring Smile

Loved both Steve and Harry.

I love the show, always have done but YANBU about Carrie Bradshaw.

I think the whole series portrays women well, in that you normally warm to a particular one, or make connections with one of the charaters (as you might with some of your own friends too Smile)

You have the career women in both Miranda and Samantha (and Charlotte to some extent but gave it up to become a mother); the mothers in both Miranda and Charlotte (Miranda trying to juggle motherhood and a career); the 'out there' single liberated career woman Samantha - who only looks after herself (I know at least 2 of these type of people). And then Carrie who is very shallow and self absorbed. Of course the series was around her and her 3 other friends, but the story lines made her to be very whiny, everything to be "all about her" and no consideration sometimes to other people's feelings or things going on in their life.

I still do love SATC though - it is just something to watch without having to concentrate (as I find a lot of US programmes!) The films are car crash tat tv, but if you are big fan of the whole series, then the films are just an extension of that.

GregBishopsBottomBitch · 28/02/2013 17:17

Carrie's only redeeming feature was in the first film when she talked to Miranda over deciding whether Steve was worth forgiving over his night stand.

CamilleMoriarty · 28/02/2013 17:23

I just saw the episode where Stanford says to her - "what do you think about Marcus?"

And Carrie just replies - "nice" and moves the subject back to her.

(It was the episode where Carrie assumes a woman is telling celebrities that she's the bad breakup girl Hmm )

And Stanford thankfully puts her in her place.

BaresarkBunny · 28/02/2013 19:11

She always reminds me of the dreaded Liz Jones.

Bobyan · 28/02/2013 19:50

The whole programming was all about Samantha for me! Carrie was just the narrator to link the characters together.

MarmaladeTwatkins · 28/02/2013 19:59

"She always reminds me of the dreaded Liz Jones."

Shock

Why has this never occured to me before?!

Shock
StuntGirl · 28/02/2013 20:47

She's vile. I thought I liked the programme til I bought the boxset, watched it the whole way through and realised I hated it! Awful characters.

littlemisssunny · 28/02/2013 20:50

I don't like her, but I love Charlotte, she is very pretty and is a lovely person

hermioneweasley · 28/02/2013 20:54

No, the character of Carrie is just awful. Whiney, superficial and self obsessed. I also hated Ally in Ally McBeal and Ellen Grey in Grey's anatomy. Americans seem to like their leading ladies scrawny and whiney.

BinksToEnlightenment · 28/02/2013 21:40

I got to thinking.....

I hate the way she gets to sum up the beginning or end of every episode with her bloody got to thinking.

But Charlotte and Samantha I love.

And Big. Sorry, but I do!

GregBishopsBottomBitch · 28/02/2013 21:52

Binks That bloody annoying me too, every episode she said it.

WallyBantersJunkBox · 28/02/2013 21:52

Binks that one boils my p*ss too....

I hate the way she discusses everything she wants from a man with such a power stance in the cafe, and then turns into some lisping, hair twirling, foot swinging, breathless no mark in the company of her various "men".

You're a middle aged woman eating pot noodle in a fag stained bed sit. Get a friggin grip.

You're 40 and planning a LalaLand wedding that your fiancé totally didn't want and you ignored his very clear requests. Then you sulked yourself sick about it and dropped your best mate because she made one comment to your fiancé in the midst of her marriage (and family breakdown).

If Big wasn't rich and powerful you wouldn't look twice at him.

You're not cute, You look like Dee Snider from Twisted Sister.

I could go on, but I've realized it's not real.

yaimee · 28/02/2013 21:56

I think for a show that was supposed to be about friendship, she is a pretty shitty friend!

GregBishopsBottomBitch · 28/02/2013 21:57

Wally couldnt put it better myself.
