to not like Carrie Bradshaw?

(Not sure if this is the right section but ...)

I recently re-watched the whole of S&TC (ill in bed with not much else to do), and never realised before what a whiney, needy and obsessive woman she really is.

She only apologised to Natasha for having an affair with her husband because she couldn't believe someone in New York could hate her that much Hmm

She willingly went back to Big countless times regardless of knowing that she was going to be hurt again.

She screwed over Aidan twice

I could go on Grin

I know she's just a fictional character and the show would be boring if she was perfect.

But aibu to really dislike her?

Minnesota Keatsie :)

Carrie actually reminds me of one of my best friends...and yes, she does annoy the shit out of me from time to time! She can be a nutbag. But like Carrie, she's very funny with moments of sweetness.

Remember when Charlotte has the mc and couldn't go to Brady's birthday at first? :(

Oh God, I HATED Aiden. Still did when I watched the series a second time. Twatty McTwat.

She didn't meet Miranda because Big was cooking her veal.
She bailed on her friends when she started seeing the Russian too.

She got beyond annoying as the series progressed and by the end I could barely look at her. All these breathy licking her lips poses she was doing were unbearable. By the time she got to Paris and called Miranda after two days because she'd been to every museum 'like, twice' and was all bored I was ready to die.
I never got how clever and witty she was meant to be and yet her interests were herself, shoes and men. In that order.

I didn't even think Big was that bad TBH. Rewatching from the beginning he always made it clear that their relationship was casual. She was the one who stalked his ex wife, his mother at church, freaked out when she left stuff at his place as a test and he returned it etc etc. They were actually far better off as friends.

Miranda's hot doctor was the best guy in the show- gorgeous, considerate, romantic, really good with Brady and great in bed... What more could you want?

YY to Miranda's hot doctor.

I didn't hate Aiden, but I thought they weren't right together, and I did like the part where Carrie tried on a wedding dress and came out in a rash. The relationship might look good to people on the outside, but if it doesn't feel right, then there's no point.

I have a bit of a "love to hate" relationship with Carrie, a bit like Liz Jones (good call, whoever spotted the resemblance!). She makes me feel better about my life choices. Although how the hell anyone can find shoes remotely interesting escapes me.

Mirandas doctor boyfriend was HOT! Can't believe I forgot about him! He went a bit weird when Miranda dumped him though didn't he?!

Yes, she went to his door and he was there with two young women being quite sleazy. I think he needed to be shown as less sympathetic to make the audience think it was a good thing for Miranda to go back to Steve.

I definitely need to rewatch. I think the ironic 'look how selfish Carrie is she doesn't realise she has caused all of this to happen' passed me by somewhat!

I bought them all on video and loved them all (bar a few episodes). Between ages 18-24ish I loved them, and Carrie was probably my favourite.

Now, I think Miranda much more likely to be my fave as I am more like her! Must rebuy...can't believe the DVD boxset is only £10 more than the single series video I bought!

I loved the series btw. The first film was so dire I didn't bother with the second!

Anyone remember the ep with Bradley Cooper? I remember thinking how revolting he was (looking wise) but now I DEFINITELY would!

I agree. Otherwise everyone would be all 'why the hell do you give up sexy Knicks doctor for a whiny guy who so didn't seem right for her'.
I also felt sorry for Steve's GF who was actually v sweet and v loving towards Brady too.

I never liked Steve and Miranda together. He's another guy who was better suited as a friend.

The only grown up relationship was between Harry and Charlotte.
I liked the way she told her friends they had great sex but she was embarrassed at being seen with him but then let go of her shallow ideas and realised what a good man he was.

I like Steve and Miranda together. It reminds me of me and my husband - I'm a huge bitch and he is a sweetie always trying hard Smile

I remember her meeting sexy doctor on the stairs when she was trying to avoid him. He started doing impressions of her having sex haha.

I always thought Carrie was irritating and self absorbed. And to be honest I didn't even think Big was that bad to her - he just didn't do what she wanted him to do, when she wanted it. Sheesh.

And the Carrie eating thing - it always looks crazy because in every single shot ever or her eating, no morsel is ever actually swallowed. Once you realise this it is actually really annoying, because you can see it is complete fake eating. As soon they yell cut SJP is spitting the food out and rinsing her mouth out with water in case she ate any calories.

I always found Charlotte the most annoying character. The obsession with weddings and princessy behaviour. I always thought 'why would the other three - who are quite funny and sassy - be friends with this spoilt little prude?'

but she found her prince in the shape of a little fat bald jewish man I loved that remember when she was married to the wanker ewwww he was horrible

I think the women were horrible caricatures, written by someone who doesn't like women very much. It made them all very unlikable, esp Carrie.

Miranda is usually held up as the most normal but she could be very cold hearted and incredibly negative. Which is not necessarily bad, but it did not make her that likable.

But I think there was something about the way the programme handled sex and taboos that made it really watchable. I remember the first episode I watched was one where Carrie and Big have sex, then she does a fanjo fart afterwards and is utterly mortified, whilst he sits there looking like a smug bastard. I can remember thinking I have never, ever seen a programme that puts the reality of sex front and centre in this way. And that was very appealing.

There were some amazingly clever one liners, the city looked fantastic, they ate out for every meal, the clothes were astonishing....the worst thing about it was the four leads.

Wasn't it supposed to be just a normal fart?

Report
JackieTheFart · 01/03/2013 17:41

Actually I've just remembered why I initially liked it so much.

It's because I thought of myself as a Carrie and my then boyfriend as Big. Mainly because he was a complete cunt and I was always trying to live up to his expectations of me Hmm

In no other way were we like them!

Yes a normal fart I think.

It was just a normal fart, she had underwear on at the time i th.ink

It was a normal fart. It was in the morning as Carrie was trying to look all alluring and sexy in bed.
I can't think of any real sexual taboos the show actually confronted. I remember the infamous female ejaculation scene caused quite a stir but looking back it feels dated.

Saying that I can rewatch it endlessly.

See I see it as Mr Big never living up to Carrie's expectations not the other way round.
