to not like Carrie Bradshaw?

(Not sure if this is the right section but ...)

I recently re-watched the whole of S&TC (ill in bed with not much else to do), and never realised before what a whiney, needy and obsessive woman she really is.

She only apologised to Natasha for having an affair with her husband because she couldn't believe someone in New York could hate her that much Hmm

She willingly went back to Big countless times regardless of knowing that she was going to be hurt again.

She screwed over Aidan twice

I could go on Grin

I know she's just a fictional character and the show would be boring if she was perfect.

But aibu to really dislike her?

I can't remember the diaphragm one, thought I had seen them all!

akaemmafrost · 01/03/2013 13:53

My hatred for her was cemented in the episode where Miranda has Brady Brady and the new born is handed immediately to Carrie after Mum has about three seconds with him and Dad gets nowhere near him! Its still ALL about Carrie. Mind you Steve always got my goat anyway with his silly, kids curly hairstyle and whispery voice.

Samantha is my favourite now I am older but used to be Charlotte, not sure what this says about me...........Hmm

SkylarWhite · 01/03/2013 13:55

I always found Charlotte the most annoying character. The obsession with weddings and princessy behaviour. I always thought 'why would the other three - who are quite funny and sassy - be friends with this spoilt little prude?'

PopeBenedictsP45 · 01/03/2013 13:55

Woman - it's season 2, episode 6.

I remember reading afterwards that SJP had argued vehemently against the scene because she said that it would just never ever happen in real life.

WomanCalledAlice · 01/03/2013 14:02

I definitely don't remember it. It does deem pretty far fetched. I can believe samantha doing it but just not Miranda for some reason.

The episode when Carrie got stoned did make me laugh. When the were all sitting in the cafe at then end and she said "dobby" and she got the giggles was funny. That was the one she got dumped on a post it wasn't it, haha!

akaemmafrost · 01/03/2013 14:03

Actually Carrie was funny in that episode when she ranted at "Berger's" mates in the club Grin.

WomanCalledAlice · 01/03/2013 14:04

Yeah I liked that episode, and when fighting with those girls in the bar trying to score some weed. Grin

atthewelles · 01/03/2013 14:05

Miranda was my favourite character.

Charlotte was a whiney little princess.
Samantha was a complete slut.
And Carrie was a self obsessed PITA.

WomanCalledAlice · 01/03/2013 14:06

Oh I don't anyone has mentioned Smith on this thread! 5 pages in. He was so sweet he would so get it

SkylarWhite · 01/03/2013 14:09

The men were mostly grim in SATC. I did like the smoooooooth doctor who dated Miranda for a while. It seemed...u likely that she would have dumped him to get back with Steve Grin

GetOrf · 01/03/2013 14:09

The one which made me laugh when she got stoned was when she was hanging out with a young rich kid who lived in an amazing apartment overlooking Central Park, his mother came back and caught them smoking and she just pissed herself laughing.

There were some very funny bits. Where Samantha idly pondered out loud 'I am dating a man with the funkiest tasting spunk' and Charlotte just got up, slammed her chair under the table and stalked off without saying anything, and the rest just carried on talking after she left.

And when they were talking about rimming, they were all very happy to be recievers but NOT givers, apart from Charlottle, who said quite sanguinely that she rimmed her husband and shocked the others.

DevlinMaccabee · 01/03/2013 14:11

I loved SATC but fine some of Carrie's scenes just too cringeworthy to watch.

One of the worst ones is the one where she is leaving the art museum and it's raining and she hides in the door way of that buidling along with that guy who clearly thinks she is nuts. "If this were a french film we would fall in love....blah, blah, blah"

The other bit that I can't watch is when Big is in hospital with heart problems and she visits him and does that stupid bursty out crying thing.

Does anybody else remember these?

DevlinMaccabee · 01/03/2013 14:14

I loved that scene GetOrf, when they are throwing the KFC.

Funkiest tasting spunk makes me giggle too.

GetOrf · 01/03/2013 14:16

I just found a link to the stoned Carrie on youtube but it's a terrible quality clip - but just watched it and pissed myself again. Grin

MorrisZapp · 01/03/2013 14:20

What about when Miranda was pg, and farted horrifically in a shoe shop? I liked that.

And when Miranda was pissed off for some reason on her way home and stormed into the lift and pressed the button. A little boy's mother said 'oh, he likes to do that' and Miranda said 'So do I' without so much as a smile. Brilliant.

GetOrf · 01/03/2013 14:23

I loved Miranda when she was misanthropic like that. By far the character most like me.

ATJabberwocky · 01/03/2013 14:25

I really like the SATC series, however I could not bear it their characters were my friends. Self-obsessed and fickle. YANBU to dislike them.

MorrisZapp · 01/03/2013 14:25

And me :)

MorrisZapp · 01/03/2013 14:28

Also, Carrie Bradshaw wasn't all bad. She was really good when Charlotte was dithering on her wedding day to Trey. 'You and me can just walk out of here right now sweetie'. She was a rock.

MorrisZapp · 01/03/2013 14:38

Brilliant link.

BOF · 01/03/2013 14:39

I love the police officer Grin

NicknameTaken · 01/03/2013 14:45

You're a middle aged woman eating pot noodle in a fag stained bed sit. Get a friggin grip.

Thank you, Wally. That is all. Thank you.

cerealqueen · 01/03/2013 15:00

YANBU. Carrie was the kind of woman who, if it came to it, would trash any friendship for the sake of a man, and I'm sure deep down Miranda knew that. Remember the bullshit bagels, when she bought Miranda bagels when she did her back in, but really wanted to talk about Aiden? And the time she was due to meet Miranda for a night out, and didn't turn up because she wanted to see Big? (the night she met Steve!)

I once told a good friend she reminded me of Carrie, despite having always said how much Carrie annoyed me. We haven't really got on since!

GetOrf · 01/03/2013 15:03

I love that link. You have got to love Carrie when she laughs like that at saying 'doobey'

I don't know. She is an exasperating cow (Carrie) but I have got a soft spot for SJP.
