AIBU?

to not understand or find 'drunk' threads funny?

I really don't understand drunk threads....

When I've been out drinking and I get home I either go straight to bed (without taking my make-up off eww) or chuck a pint of water and then go to bed.

I have no effort to do anything, but crash out in bed.

I have to gather the will power to brush my teeth nevermind switching on my laptop and starting a thread. As it really is the furthest thing from my mind.

Also I do realise that people use their phones to start threads. But when I'm out having fun with friends or my partner drinking, thats generally exactly what I'm doing. I don't think - hang on a second and whip my phone out and start a thread on mumsnet.

And I just don't find posts such as -

weifjwp uwrh fvh i ma soooooo durnk!!! wefpwehf

Funny.

Aibu?

I like drunk threads they are usually started when posters are drinking and then it slides into pissedness ( is that a word) what is there not to understand, tis like a virtual night out or in , they are fun,

YANBU - I think it's a bit pointless and enabling

I think most drunk posts are exaggerated for comic effect. I don't pay any attention to them.
If someone wants to pretend they are drunker than they really are for attention, it doesn't bother me though. It's their call.

Enabling? What exactly is it enabling?

OP, are you talking about individual threads that people start when drunk or the actual drunk thread(s), which I agree are about company, like a chat down the pub.

I don't get mobile reception at home and I'm a lp with no-one to babysit so going out with real friends is a bit unlikely atm. I had fun on the drunk thread last night.

I don't post on MN in attempt to create an amazing thread that deserves to be archived, usually I just want someone to chat with or to offer/get advice.

People drink way too much. It enables that.

I dont think a thread on the internet enables more drinking I read drunk threads sober and I dont rush to get stuck into the vino,

I don't understand why in the uk we have this drunk culture. I absolutely loathe it. Getting drunk and making a fool of yourself isn't funny. It's pretty pathetic. I suppose being drunk and staying at home and posting on forums is a step better than being drunk with your knickers around your ankles outside a nightclub.

I agree Fakebook. I had the unfortunate experience of going out last night and there were just people making dicks of themselves all over the place.

And yes of course it's enabling. It contributes a bit to the drunk culture.
I don't mind as I don't have to read it but that's my view

Happy new year to you all. I go on the drunk threads when I'm having a drink at home sometimes. My dh works lots if lates and since I've had the baby I don't go out as much. I can't have text convos with friends cis it would probably annoy them after a bit so it's just a way of chatting to a group of people while having a drink. In fact I was ill over Xmas and still went in to share my misery but was not drinking.
It's just a name for another thread tbh.
If I go out no I wouldn't log on to mn to share my drunk ness I'd be getting off to bed.
I have a busy social life in fact am off out today for drinks with girls but if I'm at home and bored and want company that I can dip in and out of then I would def look for a drunk thread. Drunk or not!

Wtf?

As an asides...I was referring to snowflakes before. The actual 'drunk thread' I have never read, and have no problem with.

Snowflakes are largely contrived.

Ah. Have read the thread I presume this one is about.

Hmm. Not for me but it's clearly amused some people so...

It doesn't contribute to the drinking culture at all.
Not even a little bit.
It contributes not a single jot.

People will be getting pissed whether they have mumsnet or not.

Jesus christ, some of us can go out and have fun without being presumed to get in that ^^ state, I have and never will be in that situation.

what's wrong with people getting together and having a laugh??

Like others have said, just don't open them Hmm

OP, did you mean The Drunk Thread, the regular friday night jobbie? Or drunk threads per se? The former I like, the latter I find silly and attention-seeky.

So I'm not sure if YABU or not.
