AIBU?

to not understand or find 'drunk' threads funny?

I really don't understand drunk threads....

When I've been out drinking and I get home I either go straight to bed (without taking my make-up off eww) or chuck a pint of water and then go to bed.

I have no effort to do anything, but crash out in bed.

I have to gather the will power to brush my teeth nevermind switching on my laptop and starting a thread. As it really is the furthest thing from my mind.

Also I do realise that people use their phones to start threads. But when I'm out having fun with friends or my partner drinking, thats generally exactly what I'm doing. I don't think - hang on a second and whip my phone out and start a thread on mumsnet.

And I just don't find posts such as -

weifjwp uwrh fvh i ma soooooo durnk!!! wefpwehf

Funny.

Aibu?

Yanbu but the level of double standards on mumsnet is ridiculous

I don't find them funny either, because I don't drink. When I sometimes read posts like that I can feel their level of drunkenness and feel sick vicariously through their posts.

As for updating and stuff, I have my mobile to hand all the time. Since Dd's holidays started I have more time to come on here and check my email every hour or so. I suppose you can't get out of that habit whilst drunk either. I wouldn't know though.

OP - I think you've been unfairly treated here but don't take it to heart. Expat in Scotland saying you sound like a "mean nasty drunk" is completely uncalled for. Why was she so horrible to you??

I much prefer people posting pissed on here are Fb as I can choose to engage.

I loathe drunk texters/callers. Drunk texting is self indulgent wankery and a rude invasion on others time. It is not down to you in your inebriated state to decide someone wants to read your shite.

Why do you care?!

YANBU. I hate it in RL too, and on FB and Twitter. Drunk people showing off about how drunk they are is dull and childish.

Really? You bought some wine?! Really, you drank it?! Really, you are going to have another "cheeky" glass?! Really, everything is spinny?! Really, you have a badly spelled ramble about something hilariously inconsequential, or am innuendo about sex?! Hahaha, it's so funny!

I mean, whatever, I just avoid those threads. Who cares? But seriously, no one is honestly reading those threads now and thinking "yep, MN at its best - put it in classics" are they? Unless they're actually sixteen.

I honestly don't think I have ever opened one. So I would recommend that if you are uncomfortable/not interested.
And I don't say that to be snarky - there are lots of threads that I know from the title will not interest me. Some, like ones with pus in the title, are unfathomable to me so I don't even open them.

There are things that people post about which I find uninteresting and unfunny. I am sure everyone feels the same way. But it is easier to let people get on with it isn't it.

I have a list.
Daily mail shite with 'apologies' in the title
Mawkish 'look at this tragic story. Let's discuss in for days in minute detail but with lots of Sad so we don't appear to be rubber necking.
Pus porn
Threads about d-list celebs

I don't understand them at all. So I just on't open them rather than question the people who do like them

why does it matter? It isn't going to harm anyone and can be quite funny

I think you've opened a drunk thread and made your assumptions based on one or two posts that back up the conclusions you'd already jumped to on reading the thread title.

if you'd participated in a drunk thread you would know that they are usually started early evening, a lot a few of the participants aren't actually bloody drunk and it's more like a evening down the pub or at a mates house. Except it's on here.

So, my giant assumption about you would be, that you desperately wanted to started a whingy inflammatory thread about something that irks you but that you know stuff all about.

wow have a lot of people decided nasty is the way to start the New Year? I actually agree with OP, drunk posting, texting, facebooking is odd.

Yes if started early and had a drink while posting - different
Coming on here (or any forum) while out - rude

Maybe OP gets more drunk when out and can only think of getting into bed, but someone who goes out gets tipsy home for 11 just may go on-line, but they wont be doing the nonsensical postings either.

I do think you - unfortunately seems a lot of you lately need to stop being so nasty!

I can never just come home then go straight to bed, I need a limitless down time and a big glass of water. Sometimes I come on mumsnet drunk or Facebook ect.
