I have had enough of Phillip sodding Schofield and his apologist attitude towards Jimmy Savile

Angry

Last week, it was saying how sorry he felt for JS's family to the VICTIMS of JS fgs, basically saying that he knew the layout of the dressing rooms at the BBC and he can't imagine that happening and no-one seeing and now, just, he said "But that's what television and radio was like in those days"

Errr, no Phil. Rape/molestation has ALWAYS been wrong, you daft twat. Yes, they were sexist times but there is a world of difference between sexual assaults on underage girls and sexist banter/inequality in the workplace.

And you have young daughters IIRC, Phillip. Shame on you.

I havent heard the MS interview but i agree with the consensus here. Going by the descriptions here it sounds like hes panicking.
I did listen to the Nicky Campbell phone in on Radio 5s i player last week. (cant remember what day) and he handled it in a really sensitive way.
I might try and catch the Richard Bacon show on i player.

Darkesteyeswithflecksofgold · 08/10/2012 22:37

I reckon FS was hoping that the footage might have disappeared. He might have been banking on the fact that the BBC used to wipe and re use tapes back then rather than fork out for new ones.
Looks like that gamble didnt quite play out too well for FS.

FreudiansGoldSlipper · 08/10/2012 22:38

FS is Freddie Starr who last week said that he was never on a JS show now they have found a recording not only is he on the show with Gary Glitter but the woman who made the claim is in the audience. His legal time stated that as he is old he can not remember

Not too old to be prosecuted though

And yes Mike Smith did sound a little nervous

NigellasGhost · 08/10/2012 22:40

here's a link to the MS interview on Richard Bacon although MS is NOT referred to on the title of the clip, just Jackie Brambles. It was a joint interview of MS with J Brambles but they've obviously forgotten to refer to MS now, I wonder why! However, he starts speaking at around 40 seconds.

ThreadWatcher · 08/10/2012 22:52

Thanks mrjr :)

QuickLookBusy · 08/10/2012 22:55

Imagine if god forbid, one of PS's DDs told him they had been abused years ago.

I doubt he'd tell her "but I feel sorry for his family" or "I don't understand how that could happen, I know the building"

He's a tosser.

BupcakesAndHaunting · 08/10/2012 22:59

And also "it was a different time then, darling. Let's not make a deal of it"

A bit late to this, but had just left university when the Mandy Smith thing was in the news. I (and most of my friends) were horrified by it all, but I remember my boss doing the "she is very mature for her age, if she wants to she should be left alone Hmm" I remember my brother being apoplectic with rage at one stage.

That was, I think 1982 or 3 and things were beginning to change. They were even worse in the '70s.

I remember in 1983 visiting my sister in law in the country in Ireland where she was a district nurse, and her pointing out a house to me where a man lived with his five daughters (and a few sons) and there multiple children, all of which were his children as well.

I remember her saying that no matter how often she reported it (every time one of the girls got pregnant), the answer was "can you prove it", and of course the girls were too scared to speak up so she never could.

ThreadWatcher · 08/10/2012 23:03

Perhaps he would also. Say it was their fault because of the clothes they were wearing?
Dont moan that was last week! Do keep up!

I am disgusted by his attitude Angry

Darkesteyeswithflecksofgold · 08/10/2012 23:04

Thanks Nigella.

ThreadWatcher · 08/10/2012 23:04

Mary Shock

flyoverthegoldenhill · 08/10/2012 23:06

maybe Pip will find that now he is so last week

BupcakesAndHaunting · 08/10/2012 23:07

Mary that is awful :(

OP posts:
BupcakesAndHaunting · 08/10/2012 23:08

Nah, Pip has got his hoardes of fans defending him. He'll do alright. I just really hope that nothing ever happens in his life that would ever make him examine his attitude on this.

OP posts:
QuickLookBusy · 08/10/2012 23:10

The ridiculous thing is the vast majority of his audience are women, I presume.
This Morning should be encouraging women to speak out, not showing women they won't be believed yet again in 2012 ffs.

Maybe MNHQ need to get on TM and tell everyone about the We Believe You Campaign.

And PS needs to apologise for the crap that has come out of his mouth this past week.

MaryZed · 08/10/2012 23:11

Oops, I was so upset posting that I used there not their

Of course that was all at the same time as the power of the Catholic Church in Ireland, where the priest would do nothing because girls/women didn't count at all Angry.

Thing is, I don't think it is just the BBC. Everyone is after the BBC because of the JS allegations, but I suspect any business, especially with "celebrities" involved, like show-business, acting, sport etc., would come up with the same shite.

cocolepew · 08/10/2012 23:12

I've said this on another thread but John Peel used to get blowjobs in the US from girls as young as 12/13. Then he was in his 20's and married a 15 year old.

Jimmy Page 'dated' a 14 yo, when he was in his 20's. She lost her virginity to David Bowie when she was 13. David Bowie has a DD around 12/13 years old. Do you think he's ashamed?

BupcakesAndHaunting · 08/10/2012 23:13

Most of his Twatter defenders are women and that makes it all the more depressing.

He won't apologise. He's said this shit THREE TIMES in a week. It's obviously what he thinks. And his attitude when called on it, frankly, stinks.

OP posts:
Wearyworker · 08/10/2012 23:13

I believe all of you :(

I think some of the "celebrities" are frightened to defend and to go against JS :(

I've always thought of him as a horrible creepy man even when I was a child :(

BupcakesAndHaunting · 08/10/2012 23:13

The Peel/Bowie thing depressed me beyond belief. :(

OP posts:
cocolepew · 08/10/2012 23:15

Mary I'm in NI and have heard similar stories from around the same time. Mainly farmers who lived in the back of beyond .

cocolepew · 08/10/2012 23:19

There is a very tiny difference in the fact that these girls probably weren't forced the way JS victims were, IYSWIM? But they were grown men taking advantage of vulnerable, star struck children. What man in his 20's wants a 13 year old childs body over a womans?

Darkesteyeswithflecksofgold · 08/10/2012 23:27

Totally agree Bupcakes with your post at 23.13. I think our so called celebrity culture has brainwashed some people.
Hate to say this but seeing this attitude on TM and from PS and MG and on Twitter makes me
a. think that it will discourage people from coming forward after being abused.
b. and i really hate to say it but it also shows that a JS type situation could happen again.

cocolepew · 08/10/2012 23:33

Why do people love PS so much? Everyone knows he'd be nowhere without the sainted Gordon.

BupcakesAndHaunting · 08/10/2012 23:35

And he is so rude to Gordon when Gordon makes an appearance on TM. Talk about forgetting where you came from.
