To wonder why MN has turned into such a bitch fest recently.

I have been coming on MN on and off for about 2 years and have always found it to be very useful for reading others advice and asking others for advice, reading reviews and getting holiday advice. There will always be times when people will disagree or not like other peoples advice, but I have been truly shocked recently at some of the posts I have read.

I am quite an outspoken person (in real life), but do try to adhere to the mantra of 'Don't put anything online that you would not be prepared to say to anyones face' but OMG even I have been surprised at the amount of bitchy, nasty responses some people have received on here recently.

I know that it is difficult when communicating just through the written word, as there is no body language or intonation to always give the correct message, but some posters really do think it is ok to be really nasty and make personal comments. Name calling seems to be the 'in thing' at the moment and I have to admit, that I just don't get it - not from grown women.

The majority of people who make these types of comments, probably wouldn't dare to say these things to people's faces, but think it is perfectly ok to do it online.

Can we at least have a week where we think about what we post and if we can't post anything constructive and polite, then perhaps don't post at all.

OP posts:

I agree. You'll probably get a load of bitchy comments in response to this thoughHmmGrin

ChaosTrulyReigns · 07/03/2012 23:14

Bugger.

Fiendishlie · 07/03/2012 23:15

Er, because it is funnee, and yes we would say it to these posters' faces.
On a more serious note, we support where it is needed and are sensitive to predicament and need. But some posters just ask for it.

Boomerwang · 07/03/2012 23:16

I'll post again later, when I'm not in such a bitchy mood Grin

AmberLeaf · 07/03/2012 23:21

The good outweighs the bad.

FatherHankTree · 07/03/2012 23:22

AIBU has a fair bit of twattishness, but the rest of it's ok.

BigGirlInASmallWorld · 07/03/2012 23:23

Somewouldn't say it to my face. Bet they're 4ft nothing, grey bun, with a wicker basket shopping in the village. Grin

MN is their outlet for being wild n crazy.

EyeOfNewtToeOfFrog · 07/03/2012 23:24

YANBU! How hard can it be, acting like a grown up and being sympathetic to another person's point of view even if you disagree with it? There's no need for bitchiness IMHO. Name calling for fun and "some posters just ask for it" attitudes are just immature school playground behaviour.

BigGirlInASmallWorld · 07/03/2012 23:28

The word cunt

The WI doesn't approve of course.

BigGirlInASmallWorld · 07/03/2012 23:29

Who are all you people? - classic line Hmm

GrahamTribe · 07/03/2012 23:31

Because MN has gone weird these past few days, with a sudden influx of all the well known contentious topics and a few zombie threads bumped for no reason to boot? I think maybe people are getting a little bored of it now.

Honeydragon · 07/03/2012 23:39

Second that MN is going through one of it's periods of antagonistic weirdness. My current pet theory is that SWMNBN has launched a secret campaign through either FB or BBM getting her disciples to invade Mnet and make it look like a unhelpful hellhole filled with incompetent parents and sociopaths. Ensuring a loss of faith in free advice on the internet resulting in new parents buying a book for guidance instead.

georgethecat · 07/03/2012 23:42

Agree OP.
There are a lot of lovely people on here who give excellent support, constructive criticism and well judged humour - it shouldn't be deathly serious here, but....
There are a small number of poisonous creatures who seem to delight in calling people names, being hyper critical, bitchy and unhelpful. Tonights star being someone who accused a sufferer of mental health problems to be a drain on society - nice.

I agree that if you wouldnt say it to a stranger in real life then you shouldn't do it online. Its way too easy to be that mean through the internet, this is supposed to be a supportive place and it mostly is - just respond to to positive bods.

flashsale · 07/03/2012 23:44

Honeydragon, I don't think SWMNBN needs to do that. The sociopaths walk among us. All the time.

Archemedes · 07/03/2012 23:46

I find it comes in waves, theres like a bitch season.

I'm quite direct at times but only to people who come looking for trouble.

Maybe they are having problems irl and vent it here in a 'safe place' so to speak.

flashsale · 07/03/2012 23:48

Well, obviously people who spend an inordinate amount of time on here aren't going to have much of a social life in RL. So one wonders why.

FatherHankTree · 07/03/2012 23:48

It's weird at the moment, like some Kafka-esque representation of itself. Pretentious arse alert

LaurieFairyCake · 07/03/2012 23:50

It's always like this.

We just need another parking in child spaces to complete the set this week.

Theres a lot of new people so it's a bit 'jostly' Grin

McHappyPants2012 · 07/03/2012 23:50

It a full moon tonight, I believe it alters roles minds

McHappyPants2012 · 07/03/2012 23:51

People's mind damn auto correct

applecrumbleandcream · 07/03/2012 23:51

but it is AIBU....
It can't change!! It's the only reason I lurk on here!!

flashsale · 07/03/2012 23:53

Hmmm, autocorrect corrects "people" into an approximation of "trolls".

BaronessBomburst · 07/03/2012 23:53

I like Honeydragon's theory the best.

Sex within six fucking weeks indeed! The woman's nuts.

Moominsarescary · 07/03/2012 23:53

Hey graham I hope your not talking about my new zombie thread!

Some people like to be mean

Some people like to sit in judgement of others, thinking they are better people

Some people like to take the piss out of all the judgy frothers
