To wonder why MN has turned into such a bitch fest recently.

I have been coming on MN on and off for about 2 years and have always found it to be very useful for reading others advice and asking others for advice, reading reviews and getting holiday advice. There will always be times when people will disagree or not like other peoples advice, but I have been truly shocked recently at some of the posts I have read.

I am quite an outspoken person (in real life), but do try to adhere to the mantra of 'Don't put anything online that you would not be prepared to say to anyones face' but OMG even I have been surprised at the amount of bitchy, nasty responses some people have received on here recently.

I know that it is difficult when communicating just through the written word, as there is no body language or intonation to always give the correct message, but some posters really do think it is ok to be really nasty and make personal comments. Name calling seems to be the 'in thing' at the moment and I have to admit, that I just don't get it - not from grown women.

The majority of people who make these types of comments, probably wouldn't dare to say these things to people's faces, but think it is perfectly ok to do it online.

Can we at least have a week where we think about what we post and if we can't post anything constructive and polite, then perhaps don't post at all.

I've only just joined so I thought it was always like this Confused, agree a few things I have read on here are a little below the belt. I also wouldn't post something I wouldn't be happy to say in real life.

BigGirlInASmallWorld · 08/03/2012 14:15

Some parents of disabled children are very protective Boom. You'd be amazed.

-Philly branch of nice guys--

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 08/03/2012 14:17

Yes, maybe boom will understand when her child is born, I doubt anyone will say to her she should have aborted it but she might take slight offense to the suggestion, as I did

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 08/03/2012 14:18

Or even offence, my iPad is American

badtasteflump · 08/03/2012 14:25

For me it's no holds barred on AIBU. But I try to be kinder elsewhere...

bemybebe · 08/03/2012 14:32

I actually wish I could be more direct irl. Much like me on mn.

Tweedledeedum · 08/03/2012 14:35

Agree undercoverPrincess, I only joined recently too and thought oh my gosh it is a bit scary on here! I think too many women in one place, always gets bitchy... same as in RL!

bemybebe · 08/03/2012 14:39

""we have a responsibility to abort disabled children as they bleed society dry"

fucking hell!

"I think too many women in one place, always gets bitchy... same as in RL!"

and another one...

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 08/03/2012 14:47

Boomerang take your passive aggressive "fun" bitchyness elsewhere it isn't welcome here.

thanks.. :)

Boomerwang · 08/03/2012 14:58

badtaste I don't see AIBU as a place to let it all out, I think it's one of the areas most abused both by non-AIBU threads and personal attacks.

The bitchy moment has passed, btw.

BigGirlInASmallWorld · 08/03/2012 15:10
Hmm
thekidsrule · 08/03/2012 15:32

agree to a point but AIBU will always attract some colourful replies, lesson 1 dont post a thread on AIBU while feeling sensitive

but the rest of the site i think is fantastic for support and advice,i admit i dont stray onto many topics other than the popular ones

it would be great to stick to the posting rules, but rules were made to be broken (not that ive ever read them)

PosiePumblechook · 08/03/2012 15:34

I think it's because everyone is feeling the financial squeeze and believing the scapegoat shit the gutter press and government are selling us.

I like AIBU. I would agree that if you want constructive advice it isn't a good idea to post there. However people clearly post on AIBU because they don't believe they are, and then they don't like it when they are told they are completely unreasonable! (which they often are). I think it quite useful as friends are not likely to be candid. It has always been like that-it hasn't changed.

Proudnscary · 08/03/2012 18:56

I remember that Fanjo

I'm really bored and disheartened with MN right now, there are seemingly millions ridiculous threads all about the same thing, all with the same 'hilarious' jokes or attacks and counter attacks...it's like 'Mumsnet will Eat Itself'

I've been on here a loooonnnnnggg a time, however, and it's always gone in phases like this.

BIWI · 08/03/2012 18:59

Why, oh why do people seem to think that posting on AIBU gives them permission to be rude, bitchy and downright unpleasant? Why not afford people the same courtesy that you would everywhere else?

Riversidegirl · 08/03/2012 19:21

Just joined and I don't think there's enough humour here.

There is bitching and bad language but not as much as some other sites (I left those because of bitchy comments to posters)

Can we have more humour or am I looking in the wrong threads?

thekidsrule · 08/03/2012 19:35

i do wish some posters that wade straight in would read the op's starting thread all the way through, as i find what the poster is saying sometimes bares little relation to what the op wrote and then asks bloody daft ?????? or makes comments which are bloody rude and nothing to do with the topic

Because, for them, it's fun.

And they can get away with it.

BigGirlInASmallWorld · 08/03/2012 19:50

They do get away with it. Mumsnet love to ban me...for lesser 'crimes'. Waits...
