To wonder why MN has turned into such a bitch fest recently.

I have been coming on MN on and off for about 2 years and have always found it to be very useful for reading others advice and asking others for advice, reading reviews and getting holiday advice. There will always be times when people will disagree or not like other peoples advice, but I have been truly shocked recently at some of the posts I have read.

I am quite an outspoken person (in real life), but do try to adhere to the mantra of 'Don't put anything online that you would not be prepared to say to anyones face' but OMG even I have been surprised at the amount of bitchy, nasty responses some people have received on here recently.

I know that it is difficult when communicating just through the written word, as there is no body language or intonation to always give the correct message, but some posters really do think it is ok to be really nasty and make personal comments. Name calling seems to be the 'in thing' at the moment and I have to admit, that I just don't get it - not from grown women.

The majority of people who make these types of comments, probably wouldn't dare to say these things to people's faces, but think it is perfectly ok to do it online.

Can we at least have a week where we think about what we post and if we can't post anything constructive and polite, then perhaps don't post at all.

I agree with you (again) but I think you are being unreasonable.

Its like schizophrenia being the price we pay for language. Rough and the smooth. Without rain we wouldn't have the rainbows etc, etc.

For every foul mouthed loser there is someone wise and interesting who does actually give me a new perspective and a wider understanding. I used to get upset about the ones who told me to fuck off but after only many a few months I find it quite amusing.

Try to pity them. Laugh inwardly at the poverty of their vocabularly and imagination.

Are we all meant to feck off to her forum(s) then?

flashsale · 07/03/2012 23:55

Sorry was referring to SWMBN's fora.

Spero · 07/03/2012 23:55

But of course don't laugh at their spelling because even the best of us have problems with that.

flashsale · 07/03/2012 23:57

Try to deduce where they live, and avoid those areas. At all cost.

Clownsarescary · 07/03/2012 23:58

I agree with not being confrontational when its unnecessary.

But sometimes on MN it is necessary.

It used to upset me - but I kind of came to the conclusion that if you go into that much detail into being abusive on here and use that many tools to put someone down you are either very sad and have no life or a very abusive and controlling person (which you are prob accusing someones OH of being and telling them to string them up by their balls) Grin

flashsale · 08/03/2012 00:05

Do you find it no longer upsets you then, sensuallettuce?

It angers me when it de-rails an interesting thread.

georgethecat · 08/03/2012 04:42

Nah I dont agree with the fuck off to netmums theory.

You can be direct & polite.

YANBU- I saw a thread tonight where an OP was just having a bit of a moan, about something some didn't find as important as she did..and the same old posters came along absolutely wetting their pants with excitement that they could flame her and tell her to 'get a grip'.

georgethecat · 08/03/2012 06:24

Ha so true fanjo...... Some people couldnt give a shit either way about an OPs dilemma, they just gather like flesh eating zombies ready to tear strips and roast someone.

Not so bad if it is 'aibu about reasonably trivial manner' but really makes me Hmm if topic is something more serious and the flesh eating zombies just dont happen to agree with the OPs 'choice' of disability as happened last night.

Sometimes I think there should be a name and shame gallery for the biggest unhelpful twats.

Exactly what Stranded says! Grin

I've been on here on and off for about 7 years and I put it down to the fact that the site gets masses of publicity now and people roll up for a look and then see that it is very honest, lightly moderated and just get settled in for a fight. I also find it massively more cliquey than it used to be, in terms of certain groups ganging up on people they don't know. It is quite school playgroundish at times. There has always been in 'in crowd' but I do think they're meaner than before on occasion.

Moln · 08/03/2012 06:39

i It's beause MN is like a cat, anyone who is on it ends with with a syncronized cycle.

Now and again this syncronizzed cycle lead to everyone having PMT at the same time

That's what it is

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 08/03/2012 06:57

That was like stranded crossed with Scottishmummy there

RuleBritannia · 08/03/2012 07:49

One thing I like about MN is that we don't talk over one another. Each person has a say without someone else interrupting. We see what everyone has to say. I'm not keen on taking part in a face to face discussion where people talk over others. If I wait for a gap in a conversation sometimes before opening my mouth, I am never able to say anything.

Meh, it is the same it has always been.

This sort of post comes up every few months or so...

flashsale · 08/03/2012 09:06

I think the mob rule is more insane than usual atm.

seeker · 08/03/2012 09:10

I do think some people must lewd very sheltered lives indeed!

It's becuase it's a full moon. Look up at the top right-hand corner, there's a little moon which, if you click on it, tells you about the madness that occurs here during a full moon.
