half-a-lightswitch and half-a-china plate mystery solved

I think it was just the recess in the wall from the wrong angle making them look cut in half in some shots!

diddl · 02/01/2012 13:58

I saw the end as I was waiting for Sherlock to start.

Had subtitles on which at one point read "Pat croaks"Grin

Thumbinnapuddingwitch · 02/01/2012 14:21

Thingumy - it''s not a set fault, it's a wall break!! The wall isn't flat, it has two "lumps" (can't think of the right word) in it, that's why it looks wrong.

Have just watched it.
Am a bit soggy now.
Reminded me too much of my own Mum dying, although that was in hospital and took a bit longer. :(
I know full well that she couldn't have made it down the stairs though in her last days but then her lungs were full of fluid and clots, and she was on ventilation - but I was surprised Pat managed it without having a heart attack.

diddl · 02/01/2012 14:35

Alcoves either side of the chimneybreast?

civilfawlty · 02/01/2012 14:36

And I know they did some re-shoots because the original version was too depressing...

Thumbinnapuddingwitch · 02/01/2012 14:46

No, the bed was against the chimney breast, and both the side wall breaks were steps into the room, iyswim, so it was wider at the door than it was by the bedhead.

really civilfawlty? How could it have been any more depressing? Unless Pat had died before David got back there, or Janine had indeed evicted the whole family while Pat lay dying? (I hope she doesn't marry that bloke though, he looks well shifty).

MrsAFlowerpot · 02/01/2012 14:54

Also very close to my memory of mum dying at home - although agree some slight questions (mum was a very fit 43 year old and was drip fed so much morphine at home she was unconscious for her last 48 hours), however it had me in bits and I think they did quite a good job

FrigidHare · 02/01/2012 15:04

Hurrah for finding the half plate! I did have it kept on sky so was looking it up, saw normal plate and switch and though THINGUMY must have been tripping, then saw the post showing the evidence.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 02/01/2012 15:17

My mum died of pancreatic cancer. 9 days before she took dd to see Disney on ice because she knew she probably wouldn't see her birthday.

The next day she couldn't get out of bed, her body wouldn't move and she messed herself. Luckily she had family and friends looking out for, so we were knocking and ringing round. We were just about to phone the police when we saw her hand in the window where she'd dragged herself.

Later that day we had a bed installed downstairs by the macmillan nurses and all the family came round, she wasn't too bad the next day, even had dd playing with her electronic bed. That night she took a turn for the worst, her last conscious moments were spent screaming in agony as her morphine ran out.

We cared for her at home until she died, it's a horrible disease. The worst thing being she had literally no symptoms, just trapped wind, tummy cramps , loss of appetite etc, she only went to the docs because she'd gone bright yellow. It's so easily missed and virtually unbeatable.

I'm pretty sure my nan had it too, she went the same way, went yellow, loss of appetite etc. She was an old bugger tho who wouldnt go to the docs.

She went a bit like 'Pat' tbh, fine one day, the next she just went.

SilveryMoon · 02/01/2012 15:19

I was a bit teary watching it last night, although got very excited when David Wicks appeared. I LOVE that man.
Was very pleased as well when he punched Derek.
I think Derek nearly killed David back in the day, but not sure of the full story. I know that David got Carol knocked up as a teen (with Bianca) but not sure of anything else.
The other thing I couldn't remember is when Ian found out about Mandy and Ricky, he said something about David taking someone away from him.
So if we have Ricky with Mandy, Cindy ran off with Simon, who did David nick? Was that Cindy too?

escape · 02/01/2012 15:36

Yes - because of last nights EE, I spent 2 hours on Wiki - seriously it's addictive, I am not that sad normally. David and Cindy had a thing

mrsjay · 02/01/2012 18:55

david and cindy were at it inthe car lot he also helped cindy try and do in Ian by hiring a hitman then he helped her kidnap the kids where she got steven and peter but not lucy the mitchels went to get them back , then steven went to stay with his real dad simon , I cant remember why david left now ,

I do have a life outside of E E honest Wink

I watched it again on my own last night and seemed to find it more moving the 2nd time round i didnt watch the whole thing maybe the last half hour , i think 8o minutes was too long ,

SilveryMoon · 02/01/2012 19:15

David left with Jo and his mum didn't he?

mrsjay · 02/01/2012 19:17

I cant remember who Joe is , was he the young guy who had a mental illness and his mum was with grant ??

ViviPru · 02/01/2012 19:18

I feel that it is at this juncture that I must make a confession.

I have not missed one single episode of Eastenders for about 5 years. True story.

SilveryMoon · 02/01/2012 19:20

mrsjay yes. Joe was David's son. He suffered some kind of mental illness and started wearing tin foil hats and locking himself away.
His mum, Lorraine (IIRC) was with Grant fr a bit.
maybe I'm wrong about the 3 of them going off together, but was sure david left with Joe.
vivi we only started watching it again about 3 years ago.

ViviPru · 02/01/2012 19:24

That Lorraine was a right irritating old trout. She used to say 'Joe' like 'Juuuuh' urgh.

When I say 5 years, its probably more like 6 or 7, since we got the freeview box with the hard drive anyway. Serieslinktastic.

mrsjay · 02/01/2012 19:27
