My dad had pancreatic cancer. In the last 12 weeks of his life he lost over 50% of his body weight and was so weak he couldn't lift a yoghurt pot. Yes, his pain was manageable at home but I wish his death had been as easy at the BBC portrayed dying from this type of cancer. I also hope my mum is enjoying her well earned break away too much to have watched as she would find it so painful.

RobinSparkles · 01/01/2012 20:16

Aww Sad RIP Pat.

Sorry about your dad Anna.

Sorry about your mum Fox. It's such a dreadful illness, I hope she's as well as she can be.

GoingForGoalWeight · 01/01/2012 20:18

No blubbing here...Is Hollyoaks still on...gawd.

I used to enjoy Family Affairs until the canalbarge exploded LOL

RobinSparkles · 01/01/2012 20:20

My Gran used to watch Family Affairs. I thought she was the only person in the world who did! Grin

Northernlurker · 01/01/2012 20:22

Anna - I'm sorry for your loss and it's experiences such as yours which make me cross about this portrayal of death. Yes artistic licence and all that - but soaps reach a large audience and have imo a responsibilty to show as real a life as they can - with obviously a lot more adultery and accidental death than most of us will thankfully ever see!

Clarajinglebumps · 01/01/2012 20:28

I went at Janine and Pat cuddling- wept like a baby and also when she called David her beautiful first born. Went again and then could not keep the sobs in..not just wimpering! feel so sleepy after that..
Off to bed now I think- i'm exhausted!

Foxinsocks · 01/01/2012 20:28

Thanks Robin. Sorry about your dad too Anna.

My mum is the I'm going nowhere near hospital type. As much as I think she's a bit mad as she's in lots of pain, in one way I admire her as she knows what she wants Smile

AlpinePony · 01/01/2012 20:36

I've just bailed through that with my husband laughing at me. "But I don't want my boys to hate me". "Well don't leave your knickers on the stairs then." Tsk.

I think Derek had a case of unrequited love there.

naturalbaby · 01/01/2012 20:39

I'm so glad i read the MN eastenders spoilers a few weeks ago, otherwise i'd have been blubbing with the best of you.

I've been on Wikipedia ever since trying to work out the entire EE back history Confused

Thanks to everyone and Fox, I hope that your mum is as well as possible and comfortable and that you and your family are coping. It is a horribly painful time.

Foxinsocks · 01/01/2012 21:09

Thanks x. What makes it hard is that I'm a 12 hour flight away. Just got back from my last visit. But I am totally dreading being called and then having to be in the air for 12 hours not knowing whether she's died or not. It's a horrible disease.

Milchardo · 01/01/2012 21:37

I haven't seen EE in 5 years... Was shocked to walk into the sitting room earlier and see Mandy on the telly... Is there a site I can catch up on what I've missed (quickly!)?!

Poor Pat. :(

ddubsgirl · 01/01/2012 21:40

my friends dad died in 4 days after being told he had cancer,i had to tell their daughter her grandad had gone :( have lost other family to cancer,i know its only tv but many have been there and it does effect you.

Mrsrobertduvall · 01/01/2012 22:00

David Wicks is shit hot.
I half expected him to go into Holby mode and start mouth to mouth.....

I am not an EE fan and have no idea who the "young" people are, but loved the early stuff. The family trees are so intertwined.....

sheepgomeep · 01/01/2012 22:17

My dad died in 2007 just after dd2 was born, he was diagnosed with lung cancer on my 30th birthday and died 6 days later. By then the cancer had spread and his body just lost the fight.

Very sad to watch EE tonight, brought back painful memories. Sorry for others losses too :(
