Because if she has been I would like to know why.

OP posts:

Well from what I've seen on DBF's threads, there are an awful lot of people that need bloody lecturing.
And as a dog lover, I can't imagine the suffering she sees on a day by day basis.
She is real, not somebody who invents drama in her life.
I think if she told us about the cruelty she really sees, rather than just allude to it, you would probably have to ban her for the shock factor alone.

prioneyes · 07/11/2011 21:53

"you can't just turn on people who refuse to take your advice can you?"

Er, have you ever read AIBU? That happens every 5 minutes on here, usually involving people with a hell of a lot less knowledge and a lot less at stake.

DBF works hard in an area I have knowledge of. I am not as hardline as her - I am more pragmatic I think - but I have an insight into her world and it's a world the general public is completely oblivious to, the media are oblivious to and the vast majority of MNers are oblivious to. If there were more voices like DBF's it's a world that wouldn't exist.

She offers good, knowledgeable advice. People come here, and ask for advice. Posters like DBF are the ones who step in and correct the crap advice, like tiktok does on the BF boards for example. Her banning is MN's loss.

I've just read the post that picturelibrary linked to. Exactly the kind of thing that has given the doghouse its nasty reputation.

Kayano · 07/11/2011 21:55

Cat and chick... Really?!

They are reconsidering the ban which is
Good, they are
Discussing it with us on the thread right now. Feel free to go to another
Forum. MN on the whole is VERY fair and pleasant but it's huge with so much to do.

Seems to me they work very hard and try constantly to converse with us ...

Pinot · 07/11/2011 21:55

Her banning is MN's loss

Absolutely. Absolutely.

tefal · 07/11/2011 21:55

Can I ask a simple question? Is DBF also Valhalla? If they are indeed the same person is that not sock puppetry or whatever the word is on here and therefore not allowed?

AitchTwoOh · 07/11/2011 21:55

that whelping thread is outrageous.

if she does come back, and there does seem to be popular support for it, then please fgs can this be her last 'last chance'? she really, really needs to tone it right down judging by that thread.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 07/11/2011 21:56

chick I used to run one, it was hilarious. Nothing censored (well almost nothing) but it is sadly closed. I like MN style of say how it is - but now only if you can say how it is nicely, sugar coated like Nethuns. [boo]

bibbitybobbitybloodyaxe · 07/11/2011 21:56

Didn't something similar happen to the poster on Relationships who became known as the Mumsnet expert on moving on after your partner had an affair?

I think its dangerous for one specific poster to become Head Of Their Topic, for all sorts of reasons, not least because no one knows if they actually do have the experience/qualifications they say they do - and that's before you even start on the effect such a reputation might have on their ego and subsequently their (arrogant maybe?) posting style.

LeBOF · 07/11/2011 21:56

I haven't clicked on the whelping thread, but whatever was said then, DBF has changed her posting style and reined herself in A LOT.

Mother Theresa herself would have struggled not to call the OP a cunt on the deleted thread.

MrsCampbellBlack · 07/11/2011 21:56

But Tiktok doesn't shout at people and call them names - thats the difference.

The doghouse needs to be a place where people can post and ask 'silly' questions - or people don't ask the questions as they're too scared and mistakes are made.

I think it was Slubber recently who suggested that it would be a much more helpful place if positive suggestions were made rather than just calling people stupid etc.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 07/11/2011 21:57

I always thought DBF was valhalla. Very distinctive posting style Grin. Yes she is rude aggressive and abrasive. Yes her views are extreme. I read the whelping thread linked to, and yes it wasn't pretty but what DBF said was right.

Mumsnet is a site for adults. We all have different views. DBF views are at the far end of the spectrum, but she still should have every right ti express them. Other less extreme people will post more moderate replies. Please don't have Mumsnet just full of average people. Different views broker debate.

Please reinstate DBF.

[insert that old chestnut about not agreeing with what said, but defend to death right to say it]

SarahStratton · 07/11/2011 21:57

Coooo. So how many of us have been banned for telling someone to 'Fuck off'? I thought it was just me.

bananamam · 07/11/2011 21:57

Agree soupdragon

Catinthehat3 · 07/11/2011 21:57

Do you remember the tale of the Emperors New Clothes chicky? How so many people darent point out the obvious in case they got into trouble with their ruler?

Its a great story Wink

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 07/11/2011 21:57

want to add my (reinstate val) vote to the official thread as the other is about to go poof :)

AitchTwoOh · 07/11/2011 21:58

but the whelping thread was a week ago, bof.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 07/11/2011 21:58

aitch that whelping thread only has 3 posts on it! And it is that type of 'backyard breeding' that gets peole all upset, because clearly it is not properly thought through, but I digress.

I have said what I think about the DBF ban.

BecauseImWorthIt · 07/11/2011 21:59

Just because someone is knowledgeable and passionate about their subject, it does not give them the right to be so aggressive and sneery to other posters. I've read a few of her posts now and have been absolute shocked at how horrible she has been.

I think it's unfortunate, however, that her final warning came on a thread started by another hugely dubious poster.

It was last week.

WailyWailyWaily · 07/11/2011 22:00

I didn't realise everyone was scared of the doghouse. I went in there and DBF was very nice and constructive. And everyone always answered her posts calling her Valhala so I took that as a given too.

I would like her back please

AitchTwoOh · 07/11/2011 22:01

there is a REASON it only had three people on it... every other person on the board would know to stand clear because VALHALLA HAS SPOKEN... surprised you can't see that, actually.

Is the issue here that, while on other boards, the forceful advice is couched in more reasonable tones because there would be uproar otherwise? Eg, imagine such bluntness when advising about weight/dietary issues, behavioural issues, breast/bottle feeding etc.

Whereas in The Doghouse the posters are standing up for animals who otherwise can't defend themselves, and (in the eyes of the majority) it's more important to be vocal?

But actually does it help to have fewer constraints in The Doghouse? Does it serve a purpose? Or intimidate?
