Because if she has been I would like to know why.

As a direct result of being 9 bloody hours ahead, I've just sat and read this thread, whilst missing out on being able to post at the same time as Justine.

I saw the TLES thread at the start yesterday, but missed the 'personal attack' although it was obvious that it was going to kick off.

I have a lot of respect for DBF - she does a lot of good. However I do think that her hectoring tone can result in people switching off and failing to listen to her (often excellent) information. I'm sure it can all become 'Well, yeah, that's what she thinks, but she always says that, so I'll just ignore it".

I'd offer to do the board monitor thing but am completely the wrong timezone.

God this is waffly. I suppose I'm saying catch more flies with honey.

Getorf my lovely, take care. Hope that you are soon springing around the house and feeling hale and hearty.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 07/11/2011 23:50

Justine, I've just got to your comment about the Feminism section on p. 36 (sorry, tired, so posting now).

Do you know how crap it feels to have received a shedload of 'you're not feminist enough' comments on that board, and to be told that it's really all my problem because there's a load of nasty feminists like me there and no complaints are worth taking seriously?

There is no 'orthodoxy'. We are not the borg. No more than Mumsnet as a whole is. I disagree angrily with other regulars frequently. All we can reliably agree on is that anti-rape trolls were trolls ... and that alone seems to be the reason why we were told we should just put up and shut up.

Sorry to sound angry, but I did find your post hurtful.

NormaSparklerFlashBangAhhh · 07/11/2011 23:51

I see that dbf has given loads of help to people, but if MN have repeatedly asked her to tone it down, what choice have they left? Honestly, if MN TOLD you to wind your neck in you would. Well I would.

simpson · 07/11/2011 23:51

mildly - don't forget the thread in the middle about said dog weeing all over floor and being agressive.

AnyFucker · 07/11/2011 23:52

Ok

So if the DogHouse and FWR sections are being compared wrt to their "dogma" inviting unhelpful input along, have you got any individual posters in Fem/Relationships lined up to be the "fall guy" then, someone to be made an example of like DBF appears to have been ?

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 07/11/2011 23:52

BludyMoFo Grin

I'm seriously considering a bit of self banning after tonight.

MildlyNarkyPuffin · 07/11/2011 23:52

Some people might think that if you wanted to get the maximum reaction from The Dog House the situation I described would be a great way to do it. If you were into that kind of thing.

you're ideal for watching out for excessive orthodoxy in the wee small hours then.

CaptainNancy · 07/11/2011 23:53

This is true, really honestly happened to me:

I was having the most freaky dream... really scary, lots of running down corridors, and roads, feeling terrified etc (you all know the type Im sure!).
I kept 'hearing' this voice in my head, telling me 'A Name, A Name' over and over again- I knew I had to search for and find this person, and somehow I knew they were down a spooky, wooded road at a place that looked like Auschwitz from the outside, but it was actually a graveyard-cum-place of worship.

When I woke up, utterly terrified out of my skin, I still had this name seared into my brain. Even that evening I couldn't get it out of my head.

So I googled it.

There were only 6 or so hits, just one page worth- the very first hit was TLES's real name and her experience of dealing with this very named person.

Beyond freaky.

And I don't know how often you see me post, but I am completely grounded, no belief in any sort of superstition, nor religious beliefs, very down-to-earth type, but I was a bit floored by this, particularly as this 'person' in TLES' account is an alien.

But now she says she made it up Sad

MildlyNarkyPuffin · 07/11/2011 23:54

Ah. Didn't see that bit. I was so angry I stopped reading after a page or so.

If someone were trying to troll The Dog House board that would be an almost perfect scenario wouldn't it?

Yes - I've referred a DH thread to Aesop's fable of the North and South winds recently.

You see that's why you wouldn't be worth trolling.

@notjustme

Justine - where should interested mild mavericks apply??

apply to [email protected], there's no salary but it's an awful lot of responsibility.

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 07/11/2011 23:57

Can this thread please NOT be deleted? It's a lot to read and take in, and parts of it make me very uncomfortable. I'd like a chance to work through it.

aggressive not excessive. Tut.

Blush

Been a few instances of 'so-and-so posted a question in the doghouse and got a roasting' - well, it's exactly the well-meaning but ignorant who go out and buy a cute fluffy cockapoo that come undone when they can't cope with it and who are funding the puppy farms and BYBs. Once you've repeated yourself a hundred times on the subject it can be like banging your head against a brick wall. Then the roastings begin.

GrimmaTheNome · 07/11/2011 23:59

If you're a properly unorthodox maverick you don't apply, you just wade in Grin

Justine do we get an official hat?

catsrus · 07/11/2011 23:59

I think 'monitor' is a bit - well "American", I think you should have good old fashioned British Prefects with proper badges (or at least coloured postings - not your MNHQ boring old grey though, proper colours)

MildlyNarkyPuffin · 07/11/2011 23:59

The posters on The Dog House don't just talk animal welfare, they live it. You might not have seen the recent thread where someone posted distressed that their 10 year old dog had snapped at their child and their DH said it had to go and they had no idea what to do.

The posters elsewhere on MN would have offered a range of opinions and suggestions. The posters in The Dog House had the dog collected and installed in a suitable temporary home in less than 48 hours.
