To not replace something that i havent seen

We went on holiday back in August and my sister who is 18 looked after my house.
She had a party which she didnt ask to have and evidently one of her friends left a Ipod docking station here.

She asked me for it last week and i told her there was nothing like that in my house (although didnt know what i was looking for tbh). Now i had a real blitz when i got back from hols and was alittle worried i had thrown it out by mistake, i do tend to just go into auto pilot when clearing out. I said to her perhaps i had and thinking it would be £20 or so that i would replace it. I only said that because i couldnt be sure i hadnt thrown it away ifswim. Well she has come back to me saying it is £350 and showing me what it looked like. I havent seen it and have looked ALL over my house.

I havent got that amount of money and i dont think i should replace something that for one i honestly cannot remember seeing and 2 that wasnt my responsibility in the first place.

So AIBU to say NO i am not replacing it. surely if something is that expensive you shouldnt even take it out of your own home and be that careless with it. Whats to say he hasnt left it somewhere else and my house was the last time he could remember seeing it.

Thankyou so much for all your support, reading the posts since i last posted have made me cry (not in a bad way).

Me and DH went out last night to see Harry Potter, its brilliant btw, and where we have to go to the cinema is where my Mum and sisters and a few others were going to a night out, thought i wouldnt see them but i did see sis. I just held my head up high and didnt acknowledge her at all, they just walked on past without saying a word.
She didnt look ill at all so i know that the post she put on facebook was about my email.

It has all been going on round and round in my head but have made a decision that i am going to draw a line under it and try and move on with the lovely family i have, and of course my RL close friends and MN Smile.

again thankyou so much it is so nice to know i am not in the wrong and the way they treat me is not all in my head.

Well done Ray. It's a hard road but you're doing really well. :)

chipmonkey · 28/11/2010 09:55

Ray,I am very proud of you!

I would also suggest you delete them from facebook as there is no point in being able to see veiled messages disguised as FB updates.

Envy at Harry Potter. I was to go with the boys but weather is too bad to risk it.

Yummygummybear · 28/11/2010 12:16

Well done Ray!!

Just read through all 20 pages of posts & am so proud of how you have handled this :)

catski · 28/11/2010 16:19

I've been following your thread. Well done for standing up to them, I'll bet you were shaking after you sent the email. I think your family treat you terribly and I'm glad you're making plans to put a stop to it.

cees · 28/11/2010 20:05

Only just read this thread, and wanted to say well done! They don't deserve you at all.

You are an inspiration!

Finn15 · 06/12/2010 13:44

Just bumping this to see how Ray is getting on?

FellatioNelson · 06/12/2010 14:11

God, no - don't you pay a penny. I get sick of my kids wanting really expensive stuff and then treating everything with a lack of respect, lending things, loding things, breaking things.

My son lent his ipod to someone who then lost it, and we never did get it back. I wanted to phone her mother but he wouldn't let me - he was mortified. He'd rather lose his ipod (which we paid for natch) than lose face with his friend by getting her inot trouble.

Bloody young whippersnappers. Angry Would never have happened when I were a gel.

FellatioNelson · 06/12/2010 14:11

losing, not loding,

KittyCatIsGettingFat · 08/12/2010 17:43

Ray, I've been lurking since the start and you are AMAZING!! Well done you! Hope you've found the house of your dreams and are happily packing as we speak... Any news?

Lambzig · 08/12/2010 19:26

Also been lurking since the start and just caught up. Just wanted to add to everyone else saying well done, you are fantastic for standing up to them and you are absolutely in the right here. I think everyone was so outraged because of the complete injustice being done to you by your family. I hope that they leave you alone now and you can put this behind you and enjoy your own family.
