the thread titles are all so serious and worthy and make me feel frivolous and unsisterly.

Hide away.

Personally, I love the fact there are serious issues discussed in an intelligent manner on MN. It's what sets it apart from the average 'breastfeeding and buggies' mum site.

Not to say I don't enjoy a bit of inane sleb twaddle and bumsex now and again, though...

emmyloulou · 28/08/2010 22:19

No, I agree Grin

BitOfFun · 28/08/2010 22:21

I like some of the threads, but it all gets a bit heavy sometimes. I tend to hide anything rapey if I'm not in the mood.

CerealOffender · 28/08/2010 22:21

i like abit of seriousness on mumsnet but that topic seems to be licence for pseudo-academic shoutiness which i find unappealing.

CerealOffender · 28/08/2010 22:22

'anything rapey' jesus bof there will be thread just about that statement!

OP posts:
PYT · 28/08/2010 22:25

I'll take a lifetime of shouty feminist threads over the plethora of fucking depressing 'My DH is banging my sister, gave me herpes and stole my child benefit to fund his crack habit...but don't tell me to leave him because I lurve him!' threads that clog up the relationship section...

CerealOffender · 28/08/2010 22:26

yes i hide relationships too!

OP posts:
BitOfFun · 28/08/2010 22:28

In my defence, I've been quite helpful on that subject sometimes, I think, but I just don't always feel up to it.

I quite like the feminist section but TBH I feel a bit...er...thick sometimes as I don't always understand what they are talking about.

Shaz10 · 28/08/2010 22:29

Relationships saved my sanity!

CerealOffender · 28/08/2010 22:30

sectioning it off seems to play into the stereotype somehow.

OP posts:
emmyloulou · 28/08/2010 22:32

Oh that's true, 90% of relationships is women who really need to get out and it is depressing.

The other 10% are women who tbh are a sandwich short sometimes, but then it becomes an extension of the feminism topic, you'll have most of the thread point out her unreasonable behaviour to at least have 1 or 2 come in and man bash and label everything as abuse, completely turning the thread, thinking about it I may hide that one too Grin

zazen · 28/08/2010 22:34

I hide feminism also - just cannot stand the aggressive ego driven drivel of worthy and shouty wimmin! (probably hairy truckers a lá VIZ)!!

I also sometimes hide relationships as I find them too heavy man...

Soon enough we'll be sharing recipes for pumpkin pie Biscuit Wink and patterns for Harvest Festival bunting Grin..

sethstarkaddersmum · 28/08/2010 22:34

I think I should hide Style and Beauty as it makes me feel scruffy.

I love the feminism section but I see why you would not want to have multiple threads about rape popping up in active convos all the time.

CerealOffender · 28/08/2010 22:35

CerealOffender · 28/08/2010 22:36

actually seth, all topics have their irritations! feminism has rape and s&b has boden

OP posts:
usualsuspect · 28/08/2010 22:39

I went in there today ...never again, was told off I think

2shoes · 28/08/2010 22:41

yanbu
I hid it as soon as we got it

FallingWithStyle · 28/08/2010 22:41

I enjoy a lot of it, some of it my opinion is going to be very contrary to the majority and I wont join in because actually its bloody refreshing that the space exists for a bunch of , often, very intelligent women to discuss matters that would get shouted down anywhere else.

Btw "I hide feminism also - just cannot stand the aggressive ego driven drivel of worthy and shouty wimmin! (probably hairy truckers a lá VIZ)!!"

Ffs. At least you won't come across shite like that in the feminism topic.

I lurk there sometimes - has really given me food for thought on several issues. Never posted as they are all so clever in there I'd be right out of place.

I like that we have that topic though.

HouseOfBamboo · 28/08/2010 22:45

Don't really get the hiding topics thing - I tend to go on whether the thread title sounds remotely interesting in itself. The irritating loons spread themselves fairly evenly across all topics imo

CerealOffender · 28/08/2010 22:45

there used to be intelligent conversation right across mn. [and it were all fields back then]
