That’s it really. Inspired by people on here. Holding myself to account on here, if that’s ok.
just reminding myself for when I want to cave - I’m permanently exhausted, down, ashamed. Feel ill getting fatter. Stuck. Tingling heavy fingers, arthritis kicking in, skin crap. Sleep crap- wake every 2 hours. Not achieving anything. Cook , drink, Fall asleep in front of tv. Every.single.night. Exhausted in the morning.
id like to have a juice or vitamin pill each day to aid health, instead I’m drinking each day to aid illness. Wtf. Also on anti estrogen pills to stop cancer. And what does alcohol do? Exactly.
first day 2 in a LONG time, a year at least.

Keep going. I used an app called I am sober at the start which tracks the days. I found it really motivating to watch the numbers go up.

Hang in there. I’m nearly four years in. Feeling loads better. I have got my life back. You will too x

Wantofeelgood · 22/11/2023 20:42

Thanks Five cows. Very very well done x

Good on you!! Its hard. Even within another few days your gonna feel better, keep going xx

Wantofeelgood · 22/11/2023 20:46

Thanks Nap!
just reminding myself ..kidneys are sore, bloated, aches and stiff.
Wine is like slugs wee with old pub vinegar and toilet water stirred in.

OP posts:
Wantofeelgood · 22/11/2023 20:47

And it’s bloody expensive.

OP posts:
Wantofeelgood · 22/11/2023 20:50

Actually yes it’s jolly expensive , I need to work an hour to buy an overpriced bottle of old man’s pee and slug vomit.

Do you like reading? I read some good books in the first few weeks. The Sober Diaries is often recommended. There’s also a brilliant thread of support in here. Lots and lots of women going through the same thing, with lots of tips and ideas to get you through.

Wantofeelgood · 22/11/2023 20:56

Yes! Thank you, there are so many amazing tips and people on this forum (? If that’s the right word)
im too mean to buy anything for me, including books, but I’ll buy wine. That needs to change. And yes, I LOVE reading. 😊

OP posts:
FiveCows · 22/11/2023 21:36

I think I have sent you a link to the other thread by @Wantofeelgood you over there. I think o have a different name on that thread 😂

Wantofeelgood · 23/11/2023 08:10

thanks!
Day 3! Morning so I’ll remember tonight.
note to self: better sleep. Woke up feeling better than in ages , more energy. Less of the exhaustion it feels to get out of bed usually. I think I’m in a better mood too.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 23/11/2023 09:58

I found a book called this naked mind by Annie grace extremely helpful. After reading that I could only think of alcohol as ethanol and a poison to my body.

Wantofeelgood · 23/11/2023 20:23

Day 3! I did it!
thanks tea, I’ve got the sample to read tonight.
thanks five! I’ll come and say hello.

Day 4!
amazed at myself!
needed an afternoon nap. Snacked so not cooking hungry.
Telling myself all day,‘I’ve decided, I feel healthy , something’s shifted’
It’s been a long 4 days!

Wantofeelgood · 25/11/2023 09:44

Day 5, morning.
cooking and eating early worked.
as a pp pointed out on the thread above, it’s A HANGOVER FREE SATURDAY!

Definitely a bit more energy, and definitely a better mood.
I usually drift through Saturdays being sidetracked by DH, vaguely cleaning (and letting it take all day). Realised that that thought is a downer, so Im proactively thinking, ‘yay! Hangover free, well done me! what do I want to achieve to celebrate!?’

apologies if this thread is a bit self indulgent- it’s really my notes to remind me why ethanol in a glass is so crap. I think if I post on such a public space it will keep me accountable!
im also on the thread 5cows mentioned, that is incredibly helpful.

also reminder to self, visiting gin distillery, the gin actually is ethanol in a big steel tank, shipped in. The distillery bungs a few herbs in to soak.
and that’s it! Stick it an old wee sample bottle with a medical label saying, ‘ethanol and weeds’ Instead of a beautifully designed objet declaring,‘handcrafted, in batches with herbs’ , and there is no way I’d be paying 30 quid to drink it. Perception is all!

OP posts:
Wantofeelgood · 25/11/2023 11:30

I’m not being ratty with DH!

OP posts:
Wantofeelgood · 25/11/2023 20:04

Day 5 done!
feeling good! Clear somehow. Slightly more energy - I’m not snoring on the sofa in front of DS.
proud, surprised I’ve gone this far. And pleased.

OP posts:
jelly79 · 25/11/2023 20:06

Love this thread and not self indulgent you celebrate your successes and more importantly embrace how you are feeling!

I promise... it keeps getting better !

Wantofeelgood · 25/11/2023 21:20

Thank you jelly your encouragement means a lot.❤️

OP posts:
Wantofeelgood · 26/11/2023 17:54

Eating a ton before cooking.
There’s a little beacon in my mind flashing..wine! ..wine!..wine! And there’s rational brain saying, headache! Arthritis! Dementia! Bloating! And..vinegar! Ethanol!, slugs slime and cat vomit. All in a glass, with lots of tax to the government for the privilege of downing it and feeling ill.
darn that son of mine for being out! I. Need. To.get . Dinner.over.with.

rockingbird · 26/11/2023 18:02

Well done for getting this far, alway play it forward - how would you feel tomorrow morning if you drank tonight l? Bloody awful that's for sure. Keep going you've got this!! I'm over a year on, stopped counting the days .. I was stuck in a rut of a bottle a night, shocking to think back on that now. It was a tough time, a vicious cycle I just couldn't break, until one day I woke up having black out the night before (again) and smashed my face up with a silly fall. That was my wake up call, my rock bottom! I don't miss alcohol and I'm so thankful for realising it had to stop. Keep it up, the benefits are massively worth it.

Swanchaser · 26/11/2023 18:44

I am so impressed with your commitment. I have just completed yet another day one. I've done it so many times, but I can't keep treating my body - or my bank balance - like this.

Wantofeelgood · 26/11/2023 20:24

day 6!!!!
i did it! Gosh days are long aren’t they?!
ate a load of toast before cooking and read thread mention above.
DH put his bottle back!
rockingbird I’m pretty sure you were on a thread I joined ages ago, I’m pretty sure you had just gone through that. It’s very great to hear that You Have Done It. Huzah!
Dear swanchaser totally with you! I’m not sure the term ‘commitment ‘ is correct 😁though it’s very encouraging to hear. You are now too!
