That’s it really. Inspired by people on here. Holding myself to account on here, if that’s ok.
just reminding myself for when I want to cave - I’m permanently exhausted, down, ashamed. Feel ill getting fatter. Stuck. Tingling heavy fingers, arthritis kicking in, skin crap. Sleep crap- wake every 2 hours. Not achieving anything. Cook , drink, Fall asleep in front of tv. Every.single.night. Exhausted in the morning.
id like to have a juice or vitamin pill each day to aid health, instead I’m drinking each day to aid illness. Wtf. Also on anti estrogen pills to stop cancer. And what does alcohol do? Exactly.
first day 2 in a LONG time, a year at least.

Day 3!
dinner out! Had one glass Prosecco and stopped, proud of myself! Especially as everyone else got wasted. I count that as an easing off and a win!
need to think strategies tho. In laws loom and that ethanol cleaning fluid with weeds added is my major coping strategy. It WAS. Getting outside would be better.

OP posts:
Tilllly · 21/12/2023 05:52

Getting outside is definitely good. Extra points given the weather

Hello, I’m back!
happy new year to all, if anyone is there. It will be a good one! Hope Xmas was ok, how are you tilly
I gave up giving up as Xmas was so stressful Silly I know, so here I am again.
I WILL manage today!
feeling..energy less, slightly grim, anxious, overwhelmed etc. pretty sure this is booze related. Remembering fondly of how I was feeling af. Even though it was a short time. And DH said I was nicer.
live been drinking as a way of rebelling against dry January- because I’m worried I won’t manage it. Silly huh.
hugs to anyone reading, though really this is a very selfish thread, more of an accountability score - which I’m now dodging. But am making myself return. I read the other threads for Inspo. Very cool people. I want to succeed like them. And the kind posters that have written on here 💐

day 1 done.

OP posts:
Wantofeelgood · 04/01/2024 22:04

Copied from dry January and rubbery chicken to remember ..

I felt exactly as you described, I wanted to give up but the thought of it was so scary and not realistic. Read on forums about people giving up totally saying 'if I can do it anyone can' and thought yeah easier said than done, and it scared me. But I decided to do DJ and set a limit of 2 weeks only, after which I could have a drink, but I didnt. 2 years later I'm still AF, it can be done but you need to find something else to replace it. I also had to tell myself my mind wasnt wired to be able to have just a glass of wine as it wouldn't be. I've come to realise I have no off switch, so the only way for me is to be AF, and you know what its great, so many benefits. I think what helped is partner doesnt drink, never really has so that helped.
Just set small goals, may be 1 week, tell yourself you can drink after, then when you get there tell yourself 'well done, l dont fancy a drink now, may be leave it another week', after a while the cravings go, you just need to break the habit and remove the trigger to drink. Well that was my experience anyway

Tilllly · 05/01/2024 06:31

Cmas is a hard time to go AF

Main thing is, you're back on it now

One day at a time :)

Wantofeelgood · 06/01/2024 09:55

Day 2 blown ffs.
im so cross with me! More stressful news.. so I hit the bottle .
im getting tired of forgiving me and being kind to me because I take advantage of me!
so need to stop, I’m getting nowhere in life.

OP posts:
Tilllly · 06/01/2024 15:30

You need a strategy for dealing with bad news or stresses

Eg write it down, go for a walk, both

By having a drink of alcohol, you've still got the issue only now you've also had a drink
It's a no win

Wantofeelgood · 06/01/2024 22:52

Thank you, you are so right. And dealing with it when you are tired and feeling grotty does NOT make it easier. Thanks Tilly. I hope the old treatment is treating you ok 💐🍰❤️

Tilllly · 06/01/2024 23:24

As Scarlet would say... tomorrow is another day!
Back on it 💪🏻

Wantofeelgood · 09/01/2024 06:33

Thanks Tilly x
day 1 again! Boring myself!

OP posts:
FiveCows · 09/01/2024 07:05

Hi @Wantofeelgood it’s me again.

If you are serious about stopping drinking then I think you need to seek a bit more help. No judgement, no assumptions; some people just need a bit more scaffolding and support to quit drinking. Would you consider asking for a bit more help? You don’t need to be an alcoholic to go to AA meetings or ask your GP for help xxx

Wantofeelgood · 09/01/2024 20:51

Hi fivecows good idea, I hate to admit it but, you’re right!
I will, as you mentioned before, get some support. We are going through quite a time of it anyway, which I’m using as an excuse. Not a very good one!
thank you very much for bothering.
on the plus side, you and Tilly and the other thread are helping scare me into taking this a bit more seriously. Which means day 2. Again, but hey.
Thanks guys.
❤️

Tilllly · 10/01/2024 01:14

Every day you are AF, is better for you than a day with alcohol
You win every day you beat it

And she's right - your job today is to get a nice drink of juice or herbal tea, some fruit, and research support groups. There are lots out there

Report back 😘

Wantofeelgood · 10/01/2024 07:25

My goodness tilly you are very kind and supportive, it’s very appreciated I must say. Juice and groups coming up. I’m not going to let the idiots causing this stress win.
How are you getting on with the interminable poking with needles? Big hugs to you.
❤️
