Hi @CrannyFaddock101 yeah the drinking at home is my problem too. I think it's a good idea for you to say 1) no drinking at home 2) a couple when you go out.
'Woke 'up to lots of inspiration on here ( been up since 6am cleaning).
Thanks to newbies sharing your experiences - it really helps.
Well, I start my new job today ( it's only an hour a day) and as soon as I woke up, I thought I'll get my 1st day over with ( tad nervous), then sit in the garden with a reward aka wine.
This is my danger point - seed is planted.
I'm going to have to think about what I'd say to someone else. I'm great at Talking The Talk - Walking The Walk not too hot.
@Needtokickthehabit you got through day 1 ✅. Day 2 and you can do it.

CrannyFaddock101 · 06/09/2023 09:33

@Amdone123 I totally get the rewarding thing. I always have that mind set once dinner is done and kids and animals are sorted etc. especially when the weather is nice!

Doesn't help that I'm a terrible sleeper and it helps with sleeping. Eurgh!

OhShitImNearly40 · 06/09/2023 11:01

@CrannyFaddock101 booze is one of the worst sleep disrupters. I find if I don’t drink at all for a few weeks My sleep improves 100%.

@Amdone123 linked to what I said to @CrannyFaddock101 my reward for a long day is a decent nights sleep which means no drink!

Amdone123 · 06/09/2023 11:19

Yes, I'm also tired because I didn't sleep well at all. So all the triggers really today - sunny day, tired, reward, I'll be relieved when first day is done, I'll be happy - list is endless.
Funnily enough, my lovely niece has just delivered a bag of goodies for my first day, including a mini bottle of prosecco, so there's a good sign. I think !

Needtokickthehabit · 06/09/2023 18:40

So day two. I have taken two of my tablets so far, the last in about an hour. I got a lot done in work today and cooked the kids their own type dinner while doing boiled eggs on taost for me cos wine does not go with boiled egg and toast and any little thing i can do to stop the wine witch calling me can only be good. I was a tiny bit temped to stop at a shop but i held my resolve and came home and had a sparkling water in the garden instead. Just updating here and then heading for a shower before some tv and then book in bed. Helps that the kids are busy with school stuff and tired of an evening.

Amdone123 · 06/09/2023 19:11

That's great, @Needtokickthehabit , you're doing really well.

Hohofortherobbers · 06/09/2023 20:31

Well done @Needtokickthehabit . You're doing so well! I'm AF again today, day 3 now. Had a busy evening, got lots done, went for a walk just now to cool down which was lovely. Could to with sleeping better, I usually sleep really well when AF but it's just not happening this week, probably the heat

Bigbus · 06/09/2023 23:31

@Mummykins54 just wondering how you are doing?

Super Well Done @Needtokickthehabit you’re doing so well!

I had a bit of a moderating success. Wednesday tends to be wine night (I don’t work Thursdays) so I had planned a measured class of wine to stay within my syns (back at Fat Friends). When I took the first sip I immediately thought there’s no harm in having another one after this!!! But luckily I drank it slowly, enjoyed it, then stopped and went to bed. If only I could always do that!

Determineddoris · 07/09/2023 05:32

@Needtokickthehabit amazing keep going you are doing so so well!!! Also I personally think you should reward yourself with a nice treat if you can after a few days, a small thing or larger, a massage, lipstick, bag, nice chocos or dessert! Our brain works well with rewards too hence why we think it's a reward when we drink at end of a stressful day etc but actually it's not the booze that's needed it's anything else but!
@Bigbus sounds like you are doing great with the moderation that was my problem too once I had one I couldn't stop but you did well done! Fat friends always makes me laugh can't believe I actually thought there was something called that!
Excellent @Hohofortherobbers for your day 3 you got this! What are your plans are you doing a stint and then an event or trying to abstain?
It was 3 months for me yesterday! I've been there before so not being complacent and all that but it does feel like longer tbh! I haven't been sleeping well either but yes could be the heat for sure...how was your first day at the new job @Amdone123 hope it went super well! Mini bottle of prosecco from the niece is so sweet! Mine is 17 and only thinks about herself these days and money lol she's very very sweet though. I've got a lot of family strife but trying to distract myself from it! Especially as I have my own son to deal with it's been tough going !
Sorry to people I've missed out! X

Morning all.
I tried the Cordino last night. Tis OK. Cough mixture mixed with Tizer.
A very interesting thread was running on a four bottle a night DP. Lots of good advice on there. Worth a read if you have the time. Brilliant and honest female (49) ex alcoholic gave advice. I put my two penneth in but I think the fact the husband was driving whilst clearly still under the influence ment she didn't return. She didn't acknowledge he was a risk. He certainly was.
The question I always get asked, 'do you miss it?' God yes. But I don't feel like shit in the mornings or have to cancel my day. I'm also two and a half stone lighter.

teensallovertheplace · 07/09/2023 09:14

Hello all. Lurking on these threads for years. Changed username.
I'm on day 4. I drink too much and have done for years. Contradicts everything else in my life, I eat well, exercise loads am at reasonable weight although I'd like to lose 3kg in the next couple of months. So aside from the fact I am no doubt damaging my health, the booze means Im never quite at the weight I'd like to be.
My aim is to have at least 4 days a week alcohol free. I totally understand that moderating is seen as a bit of a head fuck but I'm going to try. I quite like AF beers esp on a hot day so that was a godsend last night!
Well done to everyone on here 😊

Amdone123 · 07/09/2023 15:17

Hi @teensallovertheplace well done on Day 4 and welcome. Yes, I'm the same, it contradicts everything else for me. I don't mind af beers either.
I'm going to be quite busy soon with my 2 jobs, starting from noon til 7.30pm ish so I'm hoping that I'll be too tired to think about drinking. If I could have 6 af days then just drink Saturday for example. Though.....ideally I'd like to just drink Saturday every other weekend.
@WendyWagon oohh thanks for the Crodino review - I heard good things about it, but I'll take your word and save my pennies. Sparkling water is fine for me.
@Bigbus you made me laugh, having a glass and thinking about the next one - that is so me ! I'm trying really hard at the moment to just enjoy each day, being mindful if you like. Often I can't relax, thinking about one thing or another - and that's when I drink - to escape. So, for now, I'm getting each day done, working and relaxing, and not worrying about anything.
@Needtokickthehabit how are you doing?
@Determineddoris , 3 months - that's gone quite fast - you're doing brilliantly. It probably was due to the heat as to why you couldn't sleep, but it would have been worse had you drank 1 bottle of prosecco ( and a mini), and smoked 2 cigarettes. I slept about 3.5 hours and could have cried through the night at my poor decision making.
Though, I've just been to the shops after work and even now, shall I buy beer ? Bought ginger beer yay.

Nowstrong · 07/09/2023 15:52

Hello! On my way home.

Didn't do too well last night and had a bad night. If I'm AF I sleep so much better. Wonder why I punish myself when I know the outcome.
Will be so happy to be back home. Don't really mind being away from home but I find time difficult with my sibling who overpowers me so easily. It's ridiculous.
Anyway, back to sport, family and friends.
Will also take up fasting as I have been looking into that for quite a while (Dr. Fung). Might be able to shift some weight which would be a positive.
Will report back once I've settled.
Take care all.

Needtokickthehabit · 07/09/2023 16:22

So today is my day 3. It has been a challenging day and I would have MURDERED a glass of wine but instead I went to the shop and bought a 0% bottle of prosecco to have in the fridge. Nosecco it is called. Probably tastes like crap but it is here anyway in case I urgently feel the need for something. Have popped pill two of todays three, down to two pills tomorrow for the next three days.

Amdone123 · 07/09/2023 17:33

@Needtokickthehabit you're doing well. My friend had to abstain for 3 months ( doctor's orders), and he really enjoyed nosecco. You could try af beers, they're not too bad. Or af kopparberg. Tastes the same to me.
It's good you went to the gp though and that you've got these tablets. I know you don't want to risk anything by drinking on them.
Keep going !

CrannyFaddock101 · 07/09/2023 18:06

Well done!!!

I'm having the shittest day

All I want to do is down a bottle of wine. Having issues with DP (less of the D)

Eurgh

Amdone123 · 07/09/2023 18:15

@CrannyFaddock101 sorry to hear that. It's so tempting to get drunk when you're fed up.
What will you do ?
I'm so tired. I'm waiting for a reasonable time to go to bed. 7pm methinks !

CrannyFaddock101 · 07/09/2023 18:24

I'm meant to be doing my hobby tonight. And tonight was the first one after the summer break. So I'm not doing that now.

I don't know. Probably try and distract myself. But housework is out of the question.....it's too bloody hot!

CrannyFaddock101 · 07/09/2023 20:01

So I went to the shop with the intention of buy two bottles of wine and cigarettes.

Instead I picked a 4 pack of 3.2% lemon lager stuff.

No AF but a better choice. And considering the day I've had blah blah blah. I don't think that's too bad

Needtokickthehabit · 07/09/2023 20:09

Well done @CrannyFaddock101 !

Incidentally does anyone know why tesco have to age approve 0% alcohol drinks?

Hohofortherobbers · 07/09/2023 22:08

I think it's because it's still got the mearest whiff of alcohol in it, like 0.05% or something, so still age restricted. I'm OK, still AF day 4, longest stretch in about 3 months I'm guessing Blush. Seeing a mate tomorrow for drinks then have a live music event Sat night so I will give myself the weekend off and aim for another Mon to Thurs AF next week too. I'll keep checking in over weekend though. Keep going @Needtokickthehabit , worst part is cracked now, just take it day by day. Hope you're still finding some more early positives like the family cooking etc. Have you found some ways to busy yourself?

Hohofortherobbers · 07/09/2023 22:10

That's some commendable shopping restraint @CrannyFaddock101
Did you buy the cigs though?

CrannyFaddock101 · 07/09/2023 22:14

I bought the cigs!

I don't really eat (stomach surgery) and now I'm cutting back on booze, and drugs aren't my thing I'm not letting go nicotine just yet!

Needtokickthehabit · 08/09/2023 00:08

@Hohofortherobbers mainly just day to day stuff then crying like a baby over my ex. Im so heartbroken over him and it is him I need now more than ever but he wants out. It is killing me. I will eventually get over it but if I can not drink and go through this at the one time then there really is hope for me. Also yes me 3 days AF is the first time I have gone this long in YEARS I can tell you. YEARS.

Amdone123 · 08/09/2023 04:22

@CrannyFaddock101 well done ! That 3.2% stuff sounds quite nice actually. I wonder if I could try low alcohol beers. I've tried low alcohol wine ( no, ta), and I like af beer , though I only ever have 2. Low alcohol beers would be more of a treat maybe. Oohh thanks ! See, you had a terrible day, yet still spread joy ! 🤣
@Hohofortherobbers , day 4 is great well done you. Also your plan sounds good. I'm day 2, again, and I'm hoping for an af weekend really. 11 days til my holiday and if I could do them af, I'll be pleased.
I don't want to drink Saturday because then I spend all Sunday in bed, feeling sorry for myself.

@Needtokickthehabit another day dawns ; you're doing it. ❤️
