New thread to take us beyond February. Pull up a chair, make yourselves comfortable...let's do this!

Thank you both for your kind words. I think the shame was severe hangxiety and feeling like I'd ruined a beautiful Sunday by being tired, headachey and nauseated. I have to remember how far I've come, I've drunk precisely 2 bottles of wine in 2021. That was 4 days worth of units in early 2020 when I drank half a bottle of wine every single day without fail. Slept well last night and woke up today full of energy.

muddiecuddles · 19/04/2021 23:20

Hope everyone is doing well. I had a few glasses of champagne over the weekend as it was DHs 40th birthday, but I enjoyed them and will now stay dry for the next few weeks. Definitely feeling the benefits of severely cutting back even if not staying totally dry.

AlexaRain · 19/04/2021 23:24

Ooh can I join please? I did dry January with help and support from one of these threads but it's crept back up.

PeacheyPeach · 21/04/2021 19:23

Hi all hope you are all ok 🥰 hope everyone plans of either staying AF or moderating are going well x @alexarain hi there 😃 its so easy for it to creep back into our lives isn't it. I haven't had a drink for months so I'm almost afraid to start again as it's a habit I've really tried to get rid of!!

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 22/04/2021 10:05

I'm facing my first dry weekend in weeks. My drinking has crept up again. I'm dreading it to be honest - I'm so reliant on it as a stress buster. Even though I know it doesn't really help.

CocoLady · 22/04/2021 13:36

How much do you drink in a average week @MyGhastIsFlabbered ? I'm trying to drink just two nights a week now ! One midweek one night on weekend!
I'm
Finding drinking AF drinks in the evening easier xx

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 22/04/2021 14:26

@CocoLady in a good week it used to be 2 bottles of wine a week, but mostly consumed over the weekend. A bad week could be a bottle every night Blush

OP posts:
CocoLady · 22/04/2021 18:27

Can I ask what makes it a good n bad week ? For me I drink out of low self esteem n boredom . It's turned into a habit. I've really struggled this week but only drank tues n will drink sat it's a lot of cravings n spending a lot of time fighting these n thinking about drinking shall I tonight ...? Shall I not ?? It's exhausting

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 22/04/2021 20:11

My mental health and DP's aren't great and we drink more when we're down.

Coco lady
I needed the full month AF to resent that whole wanting to drink craving. It has stayed gone even though I am moderating not AF. Drank a bit more recently but have stopped again with no problems. I think I would have found that tough without AF. Might not be the same for you but what you said reminded me of that first month so thought I whisk mention it.

Hohofortherobbers · 22/04/2021 22:36

@cocolady if you decide to go AF for a set period you don't have to have that inner struggle and argument every day of will i won't I. Its already decided you won't. I think you'd really benefit from having a dry period, maybe not even a whole month if that seems daunting, maybe a fortnight?

Hohofortherobbers · 22/04/2021 22:39

Wishing you strength this weekend @myghastisflabbered keep posting and we'll try to help get you through. Are you and dp getting help with your stress?

PeacheyPeach · 24/04/2021 22:20

Hi all hope you are all having a good weekend x
So last night I had some drinks with some friends in the garden. I have been worried that by drinking again it would set me off on a spiral of constantly drinking again, but to honest It hasnt made me want to crack open the wine again tonight and I haven't been thinking oh I can't wait to drink again, infact it didn't even feel anything special and there's a part of me that wishes I'd not had any because I know that I could have enjoyed myself just as much just sticking to tonic water!! what I have realized is that I have not missed that fuzzy rough feeling that you wake up with the next day!!. I genuinely can't believe that slightly sickly feelinh I had this morning is how I've spent most mornings for the past 10.years it's gross and not something I particularly want to have again!!!

Hohofortherobbers · 25/04/2021 12:35

Morning @Peacheypeach. I totally agree re the fuzzy head realisation, why did we put up with that every day!? I guess one benefit from you having a drink is the confirmation you're not missing out on anything by staying AF. What day did you hit? Must be in excess of 120 days? Good job my friend!

Haggisfish · 25/04/2021 16:59

Hello everyone. Well done to those who have stayed sober! I’m envious and in awe. I’m shite again. But am determined this week to not drink. I can do it. I did dry January so I can do five nights.

PeacheyPeach · 25/04/2021 20:35

@hohofortherobbers thanks lovely 🥰 I got to 112 days I'm kind of fuming now that my tracker has put me back to day one again!!
@haggisfish hey love you can do it 😘

teelizzy · 26/04/2021 16:37

Hi all. I too have been slipping since just before Easter. Managed to claw back a couple of weeks ago and then back down the hole last week. But today is day 2.

Really annoyed with myself as I've put on the weight I'd lost.

Agree with what you say about the reset.

PeacheyPeach · 28/04/2021 21:38

Hey all hope your week is going well. Hope everyones moderating is going as planned for them. I find the fact it's chilly and a bit grim weather wise is quite helpful. No offers of socializing this week outside !!

Hohofortherobbers · 01/05/2021 18:37

Hi all, hope you've had a good week, it's got quiet here recently, shall we have a head count? Who's still here and what's your plan? I'm 14 days dry at the moment, having had 2 days not AF this year. I'm enjoying the benefits of good sleep and increased energy, I'm not expecting to be teetotal for ever but would like to only drink on very special occasions.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 01/05/2021 20:57

Hi all sorry I've been quiet. Having a complete shitstorm at home and not been off the alcohol much. Been staying dry on school nights but hitting wine at weekends. But still here though I've not wanted to chat much. If I start talking about my problems I'm not sure I'll ever stop.

OP posts:
Hohofortherobbers · 01/05/2021 21:37

Sorry you're having a hard time @myghastisflabbered. Well done for staying dry week days. We're here if you do decide talking might help x

Haggisfish · 01/05/2021 22:20

Bloody hell well done for dry school nights flabber. I’m slightly despairing of my ability to stop drinking.

PeacheyPeach · 02/05/2021 00:46

Hi all I'm still here 😌 sorry to hear your having a stressful time @myghastisflabbered life can be pretty tough at times can't it, so well done on handling it xx just having a drink on the weekend is amazing, and if that helps you to wind down then enjoy XXX
@hohofortherobbers well done on your 2 weeks AF. It's amazing how quickly you can reset your self once you start isn't it.
@haggisfish do you want to go AF for a bit? I think the thought of it is often harder than actually doing it,
I thought about having a drink tonight but then it's so grim and cold outside that the thought of sitting huddled up in my coat is so unappealing so gave it a miss. And I'm happy that the thought of sitting in my PJ's with a bottle of wine doesn't seem to occur to me now,

TSBelliot · 03/05/2021 20:29

Hi all
Sorry it’s tough right now flabbered. Just get it out if it helps... hope you have a place to do the same in real life too.

My drinking isn’t very reset at the moment. But chaotic but still well down on the old days.

Hohofortherobbers · 07/05/2021 19:58

How's the weekend looking for everyone? I'm craving a drink but I've had my 2 becks blue and I'm drinking sparkling water now. No plans for the weekend and no plans to drink either. I had a thatchers AF cider last week which was delicious, so I'll get some more of them in.
