@cocolady don't see it as a fail see it as the Kickstarter to your AF journey!
I was like you at the beginning of the year, bored of drinking, developed a high tolerance towards it, was drinking just out of habit.
I found dry January really helped it really helped me to reset , the idea of drinking in the week now is alien to me I just don't even think about it. I do have that little niggling feeling at the weekends so I make a plan if I'm going to have a drink or not and then I will stick to it so I feel in control.
It can be done !!!

Thanks for your reply @PeacheyPeach ! I'm really starting to think have I got a problem ?!
Would you suggest a 30 day break then maybe to reset my habit ? Did it help you ? Thanks xx

PeacheyPeach · 25/05/2021 21:15

@cocolady everyone is different but I found having that break gave me the mind space to feel differently when it came to wanting a drink. I originally planned to just do dry Jan butnit actually turned into 4 months! Before I had spent every night having a drink, usually a bottle of wine followed by vodka, this was every night. ,now since having a few months not drinking I've lost that desire to want to drink every night. Maybe give yourself a little goal

Hi there, went to a bbq today and shared a bottle of prosecco with a friend. Not my usual tipple so was quite easy to stop after half a bottle and switch to soft drinks. If I'd been on the red wine I'd have been drinking it all myself and would probably therefore have had the whole bottle. Feeling fine about it, I wasn't drunk, just had a sensible moderate drink.

Hello all. Sorry I'm a bit merry today because it's a year since DP proposed...and though he's a guy and difficult at times I do still love him and want to marry him.

But I feel guilty I've neglected you all. I started this thread and I've not been on for ages. I know you're all big enough to carry on with out me but I kind of think of you all as friends and see our little group as my 'baby'

Anyway I'm drunkenly rambling. I'll stop again

I have popped in to say bye - this is a really positive post, especially for anyone who isn’t sure they can do it. I am largely tee total and feeling so little urge to drink. I am having the odd night out but have stopped at home completely. My recycling is much more virtuous. I am surprised bt the degree of change - the abstained here really set that bar high but somehow my whole perspective has shifted. Am now climbing again so that should keep me motivated to keep improving my fitness

Well done @tsbelliot, great you feel such a big shift on your mindset. I had a little blip this week after my moderate drink at bbq last weekend, we had a lovely day out by the coast on Wednesday and it was such a perfect day I decided to round it off with wine, half bottle of red that night, I was hot and dehydrated and shouldn't have done it, slept atrociously and felt headachy enough to get up and take ibuprofen at 4am. Wished I'd just celebrated my perfect day with a sparkling water. So I'm sticking here for now. So I'm glad to have company @Haggisfish.

So I had a lovely evening on Saturday with friends but had one more glass of wine than I should have oo i felt poorly all day yesterday what an absolute waste of a day. I ate my body weight in in junk and couldnt move off the sofa , onwards and upwards this week I'm not doing that again, !!

Hi there, been quiet here recently, who do we still have with us? I had a bottle of delicious, expensive, shiraz over the weekend, as it is so infrequent I drink I decided to double my usual price point. Enjoyed it immensely. And back to dry now.

Hello not sure what happened but I'm lurking! How are U managing with being dry ?

I've got back into a habit where I am drinking from weekends to week nights and struggling to moderate! I'm listening to a few quit lit books right now that I started years ago but didn't complete! So I'm trying to educate myself! X

Hi all just thought I'd pop on and say hi x
@hohofortherobbers wine sounds delicious and a real treat for you.
Ive had a few drinks over the weekend but nothing in the week and it doesn't even enter my head to have a drink, so I'm pleased with that because I feel like I'm an actual grown up now who only drinks within a social setting! I can't remember the last time I actually drank in the house either as I'm only socializing in the garden!! Gone are the days of me necking back wine in my PJ's!!

Hi everyone. Sorry I've been missing. Just so busy at the moment. Anyway, my levels have been creeping up but I'm trying to lose weight so I've said I'm not drinking until my birthday next month. We'll see!

Hi all. I need to get back on my sober horse as things have gone sideways over the last 2 months. Family life has been stressful to put it mildly and I am so ground down by unending WFH.

But I really do need to get a grip on my drinking again. I can't slide yet again.

Hello. How is everyone doing.

I really need to stop drinking so much. I drink about three quarters of a bottle of wine a night through the week and more at weekends. I feel awful and I've gained weight.

I struggle to sleep if I haven't had anything to drink.

Any advice or words of encouragement would be appreciated.

Hello everyone. Sorry I've been caught up in real life and my AF journey has come to an abrupt stop for now. But I wanted to share some happy news/photos...on Friday I finally got married.
