Fucksake re Db frouby, well done for staying calm. Goldenballs are the worst.

How old is dd water and which festival? Tis a rite of passage i guess. Mind you i am toying with the idea of letting dd1 (8) walk to holiday club (no roads to cross) and dh says no way, so i don't know how we will ever build up her independence. She's doing a bikeability course this week but over my dead body is she riding on the road any time soon.

Not AF either. Fuck it combo of nice wine and takeaway curry. Tomorrow is another day.

Frouby · 03/02/2020 12:33

Morning all

Day 2 of the week for me hopefully.

Goldenballs db definetly shown his true colours last night. Am still angry but want things to die down for my mams sake if nothing else. And his dcs who will miss out on a proper relationship with us cos he and his mrs are spiteful enough to stop them seeing us. Not much I can do about it though, it's definitely down to them to make an effort. My other dsis already NC with them and has been for months, only sees them at family parties and says shes a lot happier not speaking to them. Can see me going the same way which is sad but it's there loss not mine. Am not tolerating some 6ft bloke pointing in my face and shouting at me even if he is my brother. Glad my dh wasn't there, he's as soft as shit but would have lost it if he had seen. Had to eyeball my bil to sit down and leave it as he was going to step in.

Anyhow. New day. Done some work this morning, now to tackle the housework. Bloody never ending bastarding housework. Problem is this time of year is the sun is really low and we get the odd bright day that shows every bit of fluff, cobweb, smudge and smear. And I desperately need another IKEA trip for 2 more kallax for the hallway. Then I stand an actual chance of hiding all the clutter that accumulates there. Ffs.

I’m sorry about your brother Frouby. It does sound as if you kept the moral high ground though, good for you.

Longest, the festival is Wireless in London. She is 16. Her friend is only 15 so can’t go unless an 18yo or over is with them. Toying with the idea of asking ds to go but then I’d have to buy him a ticket too and they’re expensive.

Couldn’t sleep last night for fretting, eventually made a worries list and got to sleep at 2am. Slept til 10am though. Feel very bloated and not sure if it’s pmt, drinking, lovely food, being fat generally or, most probably a combination of all the above. Yuk.

Day 1 AF here. Want to do 4 days AF so today plus Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. If I do that I’ll be happy. Lesson learned this weekend though, I need to not have cold wine in the fridge, I wouldn’t have had any last night but it was there. Blindingly obvious I know. So when I shop this week I won’t buy wine until Friday. Or if I do I’ll put it in the garage until Friday.

My Nigella streak is over, we are having baked potatoes with tuna and grated cheese tonight.

Frouby · 03/02/2020 17:03

Mmmmm baked potatoes, haven't had that for ages water. I want that now.

We're having basa fillets with rustic mash, spinach and a lemon and caper and butter sauce. One of the gousto meals from last week. Don't really fancy it tbh, would much rather have jacket spuds with cheese and tuna and some coleslaw on the side.

OP posts:
longestlurkerever · 03/02/2020 17:39

Lol water that festival is literally at the end of my street, I'll be listening to it whether i buy a ticket or not! If you wanted me to be on call in case of emergencies or anything i could happily do that, though wasn't actually planning on going. I think festivals at 16 are par for the course, no? Is it London that concerns you?

Just had massive row with dd1 who is being annoying but probably in an adhd way so i feel a bit bad. Just a bit frd up of spending every day after school as general skivvy and either refereeing the kids bickering or being totally ignored while they veg in front of screens. Might as well pay a nanny and go to work really. Not that work has been much fun today.

Waterandlemonjuice · 03/02/2020 19:50

Frouby, if I could swap I would, that sounds lovely.

Longest, thank you! I think it’s unlikely there will be any tickets left, good, I mean oops. I don’t mind her being in London, just not sure about a festival

Frouby · 03/02/2020 20:05

It was ok water. A bit too rich though. The sauce was a butter sauce and then butter in the mash and the fish was fried so quite rich and oily.

Feel a bit 🤮 now. Wish I had gone with my instincts of doing a chilli/tomato based sauce, but was following a recipe. Fish was nice though, don't think I've had basa before. Except I probably have with fish and chips and not realised. Very similar to cod but slightly lighter, even pan fried.

Made it through day 2 though. 1 AF beer. I ignored the sad little bottle of bud in the fridge looking lonely and told myself if it was still sad after my AF beer would rescue it. Off to bed now. Have clean bedding on, all vacuumed and cleaned in there and I shave my legs earlier so going to have a lovely read then an early night. Didn't sleep well last night (mulling over knobhead dbs behaviour) and turned the alarm off this morning and fell back to sleep for half an hour so was all a bit rushed.

Will sleep like a log tonight.

longestlurkerever · 03/02/2020 21:04

I am so ridiculously full! Dh wussed out of starting his diet so we are using up all the free from carbs. Plus i let the kids make banana bread and had to try some. AF though so just checking in for day 1. Also looking forward to a good night's sleep but half heartedly watching a film.

MadameF · 03/02/2020 21:28

Longest 😂🙄 at DH postponing his diet. I understand about preferring work to post school duties. I'm lucky that here there is a garderie service 7 till 7 if required practically free which I used when the DC were young so I could work as much as I wanted.
Your dinners all sound delicious. I don't get back until after 8.30pm on Monday and just had smoked mackerel and salade. When you hit the ménopause you need 300 calories less a day, so I can't eat much even with doing sport every day. Apart from that and the sleep problems it's been easy. And magnesium seems to have solved the sleep problems, I feel like a new woman having slept better for a week now. Before I was waking up to pee and was unable to get back to sleep easily.
AF tonight, DH poured me a glass of wine but I didn't drink it and gave it to him instead.

longestlurkerever · 03/02/2020 21:53

That's brilliant news about the magnesium Madame!

Waterandlemonjuice · 03/02/2020 23:55

Madame, I like that there’s an accent over the word ‘menopause’ in your post, it almost makes it sound glamorous! I might pick your brains on it at some point if that’s ok. I am thinking this might be it for me as my period has now gone awol. I feel hideously bloated still but realise drinking at the weekend plus carbs plus no exercise plus menopause plus hormones are probably causing it. May do a day of fasting to see if it helps.

Accidentalaccountant · 04/02/2020 05:19

Half a bottle last night. Still didn't sleep well hence posting now.

NC4Now · 04/02/2020 08:20

Morning Accidental - how have you been doing generally? Day 4 for me today.
I had jacket potato and tuna for my lunch yesterday. At last... I am as sophisticated as Water 😂
I made shepherds pie with broccoli, red cabbage and carrot/parsnip mash last night. Proper comfort food. It was lovely.
WFH today - I’ve got a new bookcase coming for my bedroom and have to take DS1 for an appointment this afternoon. I think I’ll give it a good clean up there. When I’m AF I seem to like to go to bed earlier...

Waterandlemonjuice · 04/02/2020 09:35

Morning accidental. Half a bottle is moderate.

NC4, did you not drink at the weekend either, well done ⭐️

Day 2 AF for me, didn’t drink last night, won’t tonight. Have dropped dd to school and I’m now thinking about what we could eat this week which is veggie, low carb, easy, quick and doesn’t make me want to drink wine, i.e. isn’t eg roast meat. I think I’m down to soup basically! Although I am thinking tonight we’ll have omelette with red peppers, mushrooms and a salad; tomorrow maybe a vegetable thai green curry and then possibly tuna steak on Thursday. Hmm, could be a plan. I’m going shopping soon and won’t buy wine until Friday.

Waterandlemonjuice · 04/02/2020 09:37

Frouby I’ve never heard of basa before either. Understandable that you didn’t sleep after the drama, hope you slept better last night.

longestlurkerever · 04/02/2020 09:55

Water, you need the Mumsnet low carb bootcamp spreadsheet, it has lots of ideas and there's a whole veggie tab. I made dh avocado and poached eggs for breakfast. He looked a bit suspicious. We will have pork belly and veg for dinner which might go down better!

Am trying to embrace this whole healthy living thing that is being foisted on me. Think it'll be easier when the evenings get lighter. In the meantime maybe i could become v productive and sort out the house of an evening. Handy person starts tomorrow but i can't afford everything i want doing.

Frouby · 04/02/2020 11:09

We're having a very carby roast chicken dinner. Ds will be pleased, it's his favourite thing ever.

water I like thai curry but we tried the Indonesian style one that came in the gousto box last week and it was really nice, much punchier than a thai. You make it the same way but use a garlic and ginger paste mix and chipotle paste rather than thai curry paste. Really easy to make but something a bit different. Mine wasnwith prawns but you could use veg instead.

Only just back home after schoolrun. Had some shopping to do and an order to puck up for dh. Sigh. It's freezing outside as well. Really cold wind. Brrrr.

OP posts:
NC4Now · 04/02/2020 12:49

I've decided to give the cold wind a chance and put my bedding on the line for a good blow. I'm not sure it will dry, but I do love fresh from the line sheets, much more than tumble dried, so it's worth a try. It's windy and sunny here, but very cold.

Water I didn't drink Saturday or Sunday but I had an absolute skinful on Friday, so I think the star is a little undeserved! Thanks though.

Where can I find the MN low carb spreadsheet? I need some new ideas. I'm meal planning too, but it's all a bit predictable.

I have to take DS1 to the police station later to make a statement. He was attacked by a gang of lads in town a few nights ago. Horrible, horrible, but he's OK now. My nerves are shot though. My meal planning has mostly been 'what can I make that will entice DS to stay home and not go into town at night?'

Despite that I've woken up feeling quite chipper today. Having quite a nice day pottering between clearing the backlog of writing I've got to get done and making the house all nice. There's a spring feeling in the air here.

longestlurkerever · 04/02/2020 13:55

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/low_carb_bootcamp/3146576-Vegetarian-Low-Carb-Recipes

Does this work? Is not actually the spreadsheet but may be more useful in fact.

I tried to cut and paste the spreadsheet from that topic but it linked to my real name so a bit outing!

Nc4 that's horrible about ds1. I really hope you're all ok.

I'm afraid i did that with my washing at the weekend and it ended up wetter than it started, but that is my useless north facing garden for you.

Well i had beans on toast for lunch so can probably live with low carb tea!

Waterandlemonjuice · 04/02/2020 15:27

Thanks longest. I’ve been shopping, it was fun, the woman on the checkout and I swapped life stories. She’s twice divorced but is shagging her first husband again, many years later 😂

My meal plan is tonight omelette with mushrooms and red pepper and salad, tomorrow Thai veg curry and I won’t have rice, Thursday tuna steak and broccoli, Friday Indian, I’ve bought chicken jalfrezi, tikka and a vegetable biryani plus rice, all microwavable. My favourite wine was on offer but I remembered my plan and didn’t buy any. It’ll still be in the shop on Friday I’m sure 😂 I also bought loads of fruit and veg and tins of tuna and soup so it’s more or less planned for the next week.

NC4, I’m so sorry about Ds, how scary. I hope they catch them. It’s still 4 days AF today so I reckon you deserve the star! I really do need to work on moderating too.

Frouby, I love the sound of Indonesian curry too. But I’ve bought the thai paste now so Thai it is.

Madame, I’m glad you’re sleeping better. I wake up at least twice a night to wee but that’s my fault for drinking water all evening, I might try stopping earlier to see if it helps. I generally get back to sleep though.

Waterandlemonjuice · 04/02/2020 15:28

Just looked, there are some great recipes on that thread, thanks!

NC4Now · 04/02/2020 17:48

The police know who it is - it's a local gang of thugs, but they don't know if there's enough evidence to do anything which is awful. We're ok though. He's made of tough stuff and is getting over his injuries now.

My washing semi-worked. The sheet dried but the duvet cover needs a bit longer, being double layered. I'm looking forward to getting into bed tonight.

You sound super organised water. I always try my best to eat healthily but get bored and fancy something carby to round it off. Steak, asparagus and tomatoes for me tonight though, after Body Combat. I may or may not have a few oven chips with it. We'll see...

Dion how are you lovely? And flossie, you're very quiet too. I hope you aren't doing the 'I'm not AF so I can't post' thing because it's totally OK wherever you're at. Sending love to you both anyway

longestlurkerever · 04/02/2020 17:57

Injuries NC4 Sad This is the sort of thing that terrifies me about kids growing up; and i guess it happens anywhere. Mind you my ndn had a similar experience and it was only the scan on his rib that snowed up the tumour on his kidney so in a roundabout way the thugs may have saved his life. It's a funny old world. I am glad ds is getting over it ok and i hope he isn't scared.

Spring flowers starting to come out here too though is bloody chilly this afternoon.

Have booked my weekend away with dh. Going to the North East coast for two nights by train. Bit nervous tbh, haven't left the kids overnight since 2017.

Frouby · 04/02/2020 20:06

Made it to through day 3. Only just, that poor sad little bottle of bud.

Have eaten now so it can stay sad.

It's terrifying how much violence there is NC. Where we used to live was awful. Loads of drug crime, domestic violence, youths causing problems, lots of racial tensions. It was one of the main areas where the grooming gangs from the sex abuse scandals lived, plus there was a large population of eastern Europeans and a large council estate that had problems. It never bothered me growing up, and not really when dd was little but once ahe started wanting to go out with her friends to the park at the top of the road and walking home from school alone it really did bother me. I dread her wanting to go out at night to pubs and clubs. And I think it's even worse with boys. I hope that he is OK and fancies a few nights at home.

Am off to the gym on Thursday night! Haven't been to a gym for about 20 years pmsl. Doing a bodybalance class which is a mix of yoga, pilates and thai chi apparently. Hoping it's nice and gentle and soothing rather than sweat my arse off. So if (and it's a big if) I can get through tomorrow night will have done my 5 night challenge! Hoping that 5 dry nights and a gym class is worth at least a kg on the scales.

Checking in for day 2. Had to clear kitchen ready for painting which was annoying, made me rethink this productive evening lark, though will be nice to have bright clean kitchen. Ate carb free tea and now am watching a Werner Herzog documentary and drinking a nanny state, which is quite enjoyable but i still haven't quite switched off the work stress.
