Just updated my app and 15 units for the week which I can live with. 3 lagers, 2 gins and 3 small wines.

A vast improvement on the 40+ units a week over Christmas 😂😂😂

That’s really good Frouby. That’s about the recommended limit. Ultimately I think that’s what I’m aiming for (if I don’t decide to go completely AF). My problem is, if I’d opened the wine there would be no leaving half for Swampy. Not a chance.

My nachos were lovely, and something unbelievable happened while I was making them. I realised I felt content. Without a drop of booze!! I need to harness that.

Waterandlemonjuice · 11/01/2020 19:53

Well done NC4! And Frouby, that’s very moderate!

Longest, half a bottle of wine is very good too. I love Venice, how lovely.

I am on day 7 AF and feeling saintly as dh is making (mild) cocktails for dd and her cousin, who is staying here and it’s not really crossed my mind to ask him to make me one. I have a jug of water and need to drive in a minute anyway to collect ds so not remotely tempted.

Dh and I went to an art exhibition today and as ever I was irritated by all the people taking photos and not even looking at the art. We had a lovely lunch at a friends house though and they are also doing dry January so it was easy to drink water plus dh was driving. I think I have PMT so I’m generally irritable anyway though. What lovely company I must be!

Looking forward to next weekend with no children as we are going to go out and lie in bed all day and drink wine (planned exception to dry January) and generally have a fabulous romantic time!

longestlurkerever · 11/01/2020 20:14

Sounds amazing water! How are you wangling the no kids?

Well done on nacho Nirvana nc4! I have just started a glass of wine.

Have been a bit stroppy today, suspect hormone related one way or another but playing endless board games with competitive dds has not helped. We wemy swimming today in the end so heath walk will have to wait till tomorrow. Swimming was fun though.

Did you buy the chair nc4? I am a charity shop whore. In fact free stuff is even better, i have furnished most of my house via Freecycle and doorstep recycling, and dsis's too. It's cool to be stingy these days.

NC4Now · 11/01/2020 21:42

Swimming is quite enough for one day anyway Longest. It's been so dark and gloomy here today. The boys went into town together earlier - when I rang to see where they were they'd been in the museum/library playing chess! So I've let DS2 play on his console since he got in.

I did buy the chair. I'm planning on getting new covers but I think it's just right for the spot. Toby thinks so too.

I love how romantic Mr & Mrs Water are! I want to be like that when I grow up 🥰

How long have you two been together?

longestlurkerever · 11/01/2020 22:08

Ah, fab!

NC4Now · 12/01/2020 11:36

You'll probably appreciate the picture Longest. It was my Christmas present to myself. DS1 convinced me to treat myself on a shopping trip to Manchester.
I don't know if you can read the writing but it's the opening lines of Waterfall by the Stone Roses

Waterandlemonjuice · 12/01/2020 13:36

Longest, mmm at your wine. No kids for us next weekend is because ds is going back to university tomorrow and dd is away on a school trip fromFriday to Tuesday. Dh has taken Monday off, meaning we have 3 or 4 days together.

NC4, lovely chair! I like the colour of your walls too, that’s a very restful colour. And ♥️ at Toby.

NC4, thanks 🙂 We’ve been together for 20 years. We’d like to do something for our actual anniversary later this year but will have to see whether we can afford it.

Day 7 here AF. I feel in the swing of it tbh and have no desire to drink so that’s good. We are having roast lamb later and I feel ok about cooking and eating it without wine. We just had brunch with ds, dd and her cousin and they were all great company, it was nice. Now dh has gone to the gym, they're going for a walk and I'm reading the papers. Happy weekend everyone!

longestlurkerever · 12/01/2020 13:48

Cool pic Nc4. I love that song!

Aw re water and Mr water's anniversary. When dh is on good form we can be romantic too but the health issues do take their toll. In fact i have been in a permanent grump this week and can't snap out of it. Too many demands on my time and dd1 is hyper, dd2 is shrieky and whingy and dh is a mood hoover. Going to go for a swim but will be a rush as promised to help friend again. Will be AF tonight anyway.

Frouby · 12/01/2020 14:45

My dh is romantic and sloppy. I am definetly not. We do have our moments though.

Diets not going well. Having gammon and all the trimmings for dinner, followed by homemade syrup sponge and custard. Also eying up that half a bottle of wine in the fridge. Fml. If I resist it will be a minor miracle.

Have promised myself if I still want it when Call The Midwife comes on I can have it. Hoping I will be too full of sunday roast and sponge pudding to fancy it.

Not really got much done today. Watched Toy Story 4 with ds this morning, dropped dd at dragonboating, nipped round Tesco for a few bits, did the ironing and sorted ds socks and pants drawer out and thats it really. Just starting rest of dinner prep, then will have a bath, watch some TV and off to bed.

Weekends go soooo quickly. Already looking forward to February half term 🙈.

Slinking in just to say I am still here, but am ashamed of myself for all my failures, and don't want to be a wet blanket. I will catch up, when I am feeling a bit less hopeless. x

longestlurkerever · 12/01/2020 22:49

Dion don't slink away! I am not feeling very successful either despite AF tonight. Am struggling to feel very positive about life in general and feeling guilty for being woe is me.

Flossie44 · 12/01/2020 23:04

I’m on the woe is me bus too guys. Drinking too much. Can’t stop. Feel ashamed and pissed off with myself.

Accidentalaccountant · 13/01/2020 06:25

Day 1 again

MadameF · 13/01/2020 10:12

Flossie and Dion I'm with you on the non AF front Blush
Will read back and try and take inspiration from Water and NC4 who are doing brilliantly yet again.
Not drinking huge amounts at all but drinking every evening, and too busy to even think about the damage it must be doing. Not feeling down about anything at all, just so much going on with work etc. I'm not overweight and am running over 100km easily so no real motivation to give up. Maybe after my blood test results tomorrow I'll have more incentive Grin

Day 1 today, I'm with you Accidental

Waterandlemonjuice · 13/01/2020 12:11

Madame, good luck with the blood tests. You are moderating which is brilliant.

Accidentalaccountant, flossie, dion, 💐 to all of you🙂

I completely get the feeling, when I’m drinking I sometimes don’t post on here but I think next time I’m not AF I will post anyway because a) there’s no judgement on this thread, nobody is perfect or remotely thinks they are b) I know people will sympathise and listen c) for me, it’s quite useful to be able to read back and see what was going on look at my progress (or otherwise). Totally understand if it doesn't help you though.

Having said that, posting here helps me stay AF, along with all my other little strategies. Today is day 9 AF so I’m pleased with that.

I’ve been busy so far today, spent 40 minutes getting through to GP for dd, who has v painful periods, poor love, drove her to school, made dh’s lunch, called Barclaycard, booked dh's car in for a service, returned a form re a taster day at sixth form, prepped a tray of roasted veg for supper, studded a leg of lamb with garlic, rosemary and anchovies, texted someone to thank them for a present for dd, cleared McDonalds wrappers from my car, shared a load of photos with relatives (of the man whose funeral it was last week) and texted the plumber as our new boiler isn’t working properly. Go me! Ds now wants to go back to university tomorrow which suits me so he and I are now on the sofa, lovely!

Frouby · 13/01/2020 15:44

Been busy here as well water. Picking parcels up, repackaging and posting off (presents), returning a few bits from Christmas which was a faff as had to find a local Hermes point, and then I couldn't work the bloody thing and the guy in the shop was incredibly rude and unhelpful. Twat. Then did some work, some housework, fed chooks and picked ds up.

Ds currently sat with a new tin of quality street left over from Christmas 😂😂. Have no fucks to give, he can have dinner a bit later.

Omelette for dinner so not much fuss. Going to run hoover round upstairs shortly and have a shower and get my pjs on. It's a vile night, raining and windy and bloody cold.

Frouby · 13/01/2020 15:45

Oh and hopefully day 2 here. Did 4 days last week. Managed to not drink the half bottle of wine left from Saturday last night to pleased with that.

Not sure the huge bowl of treacle sponge and custard was any better but still, it's kind of a result.

OP posts:
Frouby · 13/01/2020 21:31

Day 2 shot to shit. Drunk the half bottle of wine.

Mainly because dd has started chirruping about her prom. Apparently it's normal to spend £500 on a dress. Plus hair and makeup. Nails. Spray tan. Shoes. Bag. Limo. Pre prom do. After prom do. Fml.

Apparently I am unreasonable for not budgeting 1k for this. Give me strength.

OP posts:
Waterandlemonjuice · 13/01/2020 22:27

Frouby, half a bottle is fine! Dd is also talking about prom and dresses etc. And I’m also going eeek at prices. A friend has suggested they go here

soniquedresses.co.uk/our-prom-guide

How old is your dd, 17?

longestlurkerever · 13/01/2020 22:33

Gah, proms! Surely tk maxx or ebay is the way to go? And a limo between 10 maybe as i heard that can work out the same price as a taxi. Or do i need to start saving now?

Not AF but managed to stick to 1/3 bottle, sharing with dh and mil. Feeling a bit better generally. Met dh for lunch.

Frouby · 14/01/2020 09:33

longest I thought that but apparently 'all'of everyone are being taken to special prom dress shops and burying ludicrous dresses with the same proce tags (£550 anyone?). Have said she has a £100 budget for the dress, anything above she puts towards herself. Will loan it to her and she can pay me back. Then £50 for shoes/bag and will pay local hairdresser for an up do.

Had the best nights sleep I have had in weeks last night. Only woke up once for a pee and slept right through to my alarm, feel like a new woman though my face looked very slept in this morning 🙈. The joys of getting older.

Weather vile again. Housework, aldi shop, bit of work then popping to my mums after school for an hour. Be glad when this wind calms down. Be glad of spring to start as well. I like autumn and winter, but mid January is always bleak.

OP posts:
Dionysa · 14/01/2020 19:20

Oh God, Frouby, we're in Prom Territory too. DD has, at least, lowered her sights and is mentioning charity shops (or I could apparently run her up a dress with a corset style bodice and a huge flouncy skirt on the sewing machine). Just as sodding well, as I am going to have to have a magic money tree to pay several bills which are so big that I am not putting them on here as they might be outing. Grin

Very much not dry. I am, though, taking in Water's advice to post anyway.

I blame the weather (foul).

Dionysa · 14/01/2020 19:21

Madame, good luck with the tests.
