And tonight dd is having a baked potato with tuna mayonnaise and cheese and dh and I are having cheese and mushroom omelette and salad. Won’t be remotely thinking about wine when we eat that.

NC4Now · 09/01/2020 14:49

Ooh, mustard mash. I haven’t made that for ages! This thread is great menu inspiration. We had toad in the hole last night, and very nice it was too.
I’ve not decided what to make tonight. My cupboards are bare so I’ll have to buy it whatever.

Frouby · 09/01/2020 15:17

NC horseraddish mash is lush as well when you have beef.

Period has finally arrived thank fook. Been a normal cycle apart from a day late, no spotting or random bleeding so hope the madness of the last couple of months has ended. Got to book a smear so will mention it to nurse while she's rummaging around in there and see if she thinks I need a GP appointment.

Also found a funny mole on my leg last night so will ask her to have a look at that as well. It's raised but tiny, like a brown skintag. Am not sure if it's always been there. Possibly just noticed it as my legs are fatter and my too skinny jeans have rubber it 😂😂😂.

Longest I have the same problem, an OH who loves wine, and it isn't really fair to let him drink alone!

Water NC2 brilliant going with your AF.

Frouby I wouldn't worry too much about your mole, you get new ones growing all the time.

Improvements maybe the full moon isn't helping with your sleeping. You are doing really well. I'm not.

I can't share in any of your period pain stories because I haven't had one for 2 years. And I don't miss them.

Not AF here, half a bottle with DH. Cooked tartiflette for dinner, it isn't really cold enough (13°c today) but it is easy to do and everyone loves it. I made a mistake with the blood tests, high B12 can be an indication of liver problems. Am doing a liver enzyme test next week to see if there is a problem. Although it is probably more likely due to the iron supplements I have to take as I'm permanently anaemic otherwise (too much sport).

longestlurkerever · 09/01/2020 20:35

Evening all. I am having a random dinner of scallops and squid ink noodles following a mooch to the cheap fish shop during dd2's swimming lesson. Aiming for AF but another shit day really. Dh has been off sick with ME and he's jumpy and snappy which is no fun. Dd2 has been whingy as per and i feel a bit down again. Should have skived work for an hour and gone for a swim while the sun was out and made it up tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about health worries. Frouby that reminds me i was going to have a weird skin lesion thing looked at. Doctors always make me feel foolish when i asked about moles. Friend's dad just had a worrying scan so feel bad about calling her needy, even though she often is. Am seeing her tomorrow. Is another friend's 40th on sat - the first of my uni crew - but she doesn't seem to want to do anything to celebrate, though has left it a bit up in the air. No other weekend plans really. Anyone else?

longestlurkerever · 09/01/2020 20:41

Sorry to hear about the funeral Water. X

Waterandlemonjuice · 09/01/2020 21:59

Madame I hope the tests are ok, you’ve been moderating for so long that it’s probably the iron supplements rather than liver related. I’m the same age as you but still having periods, sadly. I think! Although I’m not looking forward to other menopause symptoms, I skimmed a menopause thread on here yesterday which was scary.

Longest, sorry to hear you’re a bit down. Whingy dhs are the worst. I like scallops although I had 16 days (OMG was grim although I dropped a stone!) of illness in 2018 which I'm pretty sure was down to a scallop and last July dd spent ALL night throwing up every hour on the hour, also probably after a scallop so we are both a bit wary of them now! Although I braved one at lunch in a restaurant by the beach on NYE and was fine, phew.

Frouby at nurse rummaging, I hate smears. But do have them when I should.

Dionysa how are you? Is it nice the kids being back at school?

NC4Now · 09/01/2020 22:04

Sorry to hear you're feeling glum Longest. Sometimes it just feels like there's no joy in the day, doesn't it? I'm a bit worried about DS1 actually. He hasn't left his room all day apart from for his tea and he's just replying monosyllabically when I ask if he's ok.

I did bag myself a discount fillet steak for my tea though, which was the joy in my day. I seem to be developing a bit of a Party Ring habit too, but at 80kcal for a little bag they are a lot better than wine.

My PT put me through the ringer tonight. I can barely walk. I thought I was going to fall down the stairs at the end of the session. It's good though. I felt absolutely justified in curling up to watch Corrie in the cloak of sobriety, with a brew and a bag of party rings.

Not sure yet what the weekend has in store, except I'm going to look at an Ercol armchair after my obsessing this week. It needs a bit of refurbishment but I think it's only cosmetic, so depending on the condition I might buy it as a little project. Mostly though, I'll be trying not to drink.

longestlurkerever · 09/01/2020 22:19

Aw, thanks guys. Sorry for moping. Sorry to report that I am not AF, or anywhere near but i am feeling better. Have been looking at holidays. Thinking of a couple of days in the lake district in February which i can justify/even break even if i can persuade mil to put us up and mind the kids for a day either side en route, and have found cheap flights to Venice for easter, which i can get for dh's birthday pressie, though will probably take the kids too. Also found a cottage in Wales for the summer

longestlurkerever · 09/01/2020 22:24

Sorry to hear about ds1. That was pretty much dh, though he went out for a walk about 8pm and has definitely perked up.

longestlurkerever · 09/01/2020 22:27

Which chair are you lusting after in particular? Starting to wonder if i imagined latest rat noise. Dh reckons the fridge makes that sound sometimes when the ice cracks. Fx.

NC4Now · 10/01/2020 08:51

Those sound like lovely holiday plans Longest. I was thinking the other day I don't make the most of the Lake District, given it's only 45 mins away. XH and I used to go for the odd night here and there - I'm not fussed about the walking. More the food and drink!

I'm lusting after the Ercol 203 chair. They are quite expensive refurbished but I'm hoping to do mine myself if it's just cosmetic.

DS1 has perked up. He told me what was bothering and that it's ok now. He's having a pie for his breakfast which is always a good sign.

AF Friday is a challenge so I'll need to come up with a plan this afternoon. But it's nearly weekend - we've survived the first week back 🎉

Frouby · 10/01/2020 10:03

NC I have a friend that lives in the lakes and every year I say we must go up for the weekend and spend some time exploring. And every year we don't go.

My calander is very empty so far this year and I love it like that. I don't like booking holidays months in advance as I seem to split everything before/after holiday. Or big wedding. Or whatever. I like a blank calendar lol.

Lovely morning here and should really be at ponies but felt lousy when I got up. If periods are going to get worse as I get older I think I need to consider something hormonal. Feel a bit better now but had a crap nights sleep due to the cramps and still feel very bloated. Urgh. If men had periods they would have invented something by now to turn them on and off that didn't interfere with everything else.

Going to tidy round, walk the dog and do some work. And I definitely won't be dry tonight cos Friday.

OP posts:
Waterandlemonjuice · 10/01/2020 15:53

NC4, I’m glad your ds has perked up. Nice chair.

Frouby, sorry to hear of crap sleep and period combo

Day 6 AF here if I don’t drink tonight, which I won’t as there’s no dry white in the house etc.

The funeral was sad but a good send off. We agreed on the way back that we wished we were checking into a 5 star hotel to have sex and get pissed. Really focuses the mind, death! But we didn’t, obviously as we have commitments at home /dry January/ no cash after huge bills in December and January. Shame!

Dd has a friend here so we will be ordering Dominos and watching a film instead, AF. She is away next weekend so I may drink then if we go out but add a couple of days AF on in February instead.

longestlurkerever · 10/01/2020 17:26

Gosh you're all doing so well! The best i have managed is not going over 1/2 bottle.

Glad it was a good send off water. Know what you mean, sometimes you just think fuck it you can be the most health conscious and responsible person in the world and still get hit by a bus/nuclear missile/climate catastrophe so what's the point?

Difficult morning with friend whose dad's cancer has taken a turn for the worse, but actually found it easier to offer support for something truly shitty than when i am secretly thinking ffs toughen up a bit.

Might not get to go to the lake district after all as dh's boss hasn't granted his leave request, but i do love it, especially off season. Here it is last autumn

longestlurkerever · 10/01/2020 17:28

Ps cool chair!

NC4Now · 10/01/2020 17:41

Oh it is beautiful isn’t it? A girl I went to school with fled an abusive relationship and made a new home with her children in the Lakes. She says it has been very healing for all of them and I can see that.

I know what you mean about sympathy Longest. I can be a bit like that.

Water I like your approach to funerals! Glad it was a good send off even if a sad occasion overall.

I’m well in the danger zone. I’m not quite sure how to mark the end of a working week if I don’t crack out the wine. I’ll have a cup of tea and think about it...

longestlurkerever · 10/01/2020 22:50

Did you manage it NC4? Kudos if so! I have booked Venice and wales and drunk half a bottle of wine. Hmm.

Frouby · 11/01/2020 08:59

Morning all

Wet last night but feel ok this morning. Had a couple of gins and a couple of beers. Resisted more and switched to water so feel quite virtuous this morning.

Not sure what we are doing today. The weather is awful, blustery and stormy so I don't fancy being out and about. I think it will be a day for pottering at home and getting bits done. Don't know if I am drinking later. Depends what dh does. If I do drink it will just be a couple then back to dry tomorrow.

OP posts:
NC4Now · 11/01/2020 10:31

I did indeed manage it, and I’m glad I did. I was up at 9:00 which is practically unheard of on a weekend. I did have a takeaway but went for pasta arrabiatica so could have been much worse.
I’m not sure about today’s plans. Spin, visit the chair and possibly buy it, then... hmmm....
I might see if there’s something on at the cinema that DS2 would like to see, or invite my friend and her DS over.

Frouby that’s relatively moderate isn’t it? I need to up my water during the day. My skin is dry and I’m parched in the evening when I drink about 3 pints and am up and down all night. That can be this week’s goal: more daytime water.

longestlurkerever · 11/01/2020 10:45

Well done all! I have done the park run and am gradually less dead afterwards so pleased with the progress. Not sure what we are doing for the rest of the weekend either. Feel lazy too but need to drag kids out for some fresh air or they will spend all day watching telly and demanding snacks. Taking them swimming tomorrow with a friend. Maybe a stomp round Hampstead heath and then a mooch around the charity shops in posh Highgate, you sometimes find some cool stuff.

Frouby · 11/01/2020 10:49

Yes relatively moderate for a friday night for me! I find I am always thirsty in the evening as well. I drink a pint of water before bed which really doesn't help. Thursday I made myself a pint of ginger cordial with loads of ice to sip and that worked better but was up and down all night anyway with the period from hell.

Debating cleaning the bathroom and doing the ironing. Usually sunday jobs but could be very virtuous and get them out of the way. Bathroom usually dds job but I want to give it a good post Christmas fettle. And the skirting boards need dusting and doors upstairs wiping down.

Dh chuntering about going to the twatting garden centre. Fml, it's feeezing, windy and looks like it's going to piss it down. We're skint as well waiting for payday and O really can't be arsed to go traipsing around.

Ooh Longest I am in two Facebook groups Charity Shop Shit and Charity Shop Not So Shit. I'm in there for work purposes in the hope one day someone will post something that makes a really cool story, but there are some brilliant finds. Designer handbags for a tenner and the likes.

I also feel gradually less dead after spin. In fact, that's what my brother just said to me too. He's hating Dry January!

I'm definitely not doing outside things today. DS2 has just caught the bus into town and I'm not sure about DS1. I'm off to look at the armchair shortly, so may have a project on my hands by the end of the day.

NC4Now · 11/01/2020 18:19

Back in the danger zone. I need to remember how productive I'll be tomorrow if I make it through.

Eeeekkkkk!!!!

I'm going to make some nachos and hope for the best...

Frouby · 11/01/2020 19:04

I've not managed it NC. Dh isn't drinking but I have opened a bottle of wine. Just on my second small glass but will probably have another and that will be me done. Be half a bottle which is moderate.

But have had 4 days AF, 1 really moderate night (2 gins) and was moderately moderate last night so not too bad considering the carnage of December and early January 😁.
