Dion I'm so sorry you aren't well, I hope you manage to shake whatever it is off quickly.

NC4 how are you doing?

Flossie Longest thanks, but it isn't anything to worry about, thyroid problems are so common, it's just a pain about requiring surgery, most people seem to manage with medical treatment.
Compared to what you have to cope with health wise with your DD and DH it really is nothing, I'm in awe of you both.

Senseless how are you doing? What's happened with your boyfriend? I hope you are OK

HippyTrails · 17/06/2019 13:51

thank you all for your support yesterday, the AF wheels well & truly fell off the wagon. Back to being AF today & lucky me appear to have escaped the hangover I deserved.

I was asleep before OH came up to bed last night. He did ask if I was ok this morning though as I had gone to sleep fully sat up in bed as though I was watching the tv & told him to F off when he woke me up so I didn't end up with a stiff neck.

HippyTrails · 17/06/2019 13:52

Hope you all had good weekends ?

CottonSock · 17/06/2019 14:39

I went out Saturday night for a curry with dh. 4 glasses of wine, but 3 soft drinks. Felt quite rough after! Probably as most of the wine consumed before food. It was very slow. Didn't reach for hair of the dog yesterday and stayed dry. Dh said he is proud of how much I have cut down which is nice.

We have a busy few weeks ahead. Farthers day ticked off, now my birthday, both dd birthdays (Not twins), wedding anniversary too. Lots of nice meals out etc planned, will not be dry or healthy.

Longest, my sister has M.E, mental health issues, gluten intolerant. Sounds very like your dh. She met a lovely new (effing rich) partner last year and was able to give up work.

Madame, sorry to hear of thyroid. You sound so healthy so it must feel unlucky.

Aiming for a few dry days this week. Might have 1 glass pre theatre tomorrow.

Dionysa · 17/06/2019 18:44

Huge hugs, Senseless. Please hang around on this thread, as it's lovely. The Tryers have stuck with me throughout all my agonising about incorrigible DP.

So much for my good resolutions. 13 hour day at work, with a high temp and killer cough. So I am now having a very large G&T with ibuprofen and paracetamol. Couldn't have the day off, because self-employed, and I'd have to be in a coffin to have the day off.

DD's school rang on her behalf to ask me to collect her because she had a minor head injury. In fact, the car is in for service, so I can't collect her. Though I think she'd give herself a head injury just to try to get a lift home, because walking 20 minutes is, like, just so unreasonable. Confused

Waterandlemonjuice · 17/06/2019 19:17

AF today for the first time in ages. Well done to everyone moderating. Drank loads yesterday, feel shit today. My own fault...

Have decided to stop self harming with wine and to see being AF as self love. Let’s hope I persuade myself!

Frouby · 17/06/2019 19:53

Dion it's medicinal if you are ill, hope you feel better soon.

My dd came out with a good one tonight. I was at my mams with ds straight from school. Dd phoned and said the had no rescue remedy for her first exams tomorrow. Told her I would pick sort it when I was home, planning to call at Tesco's on the way down or nip to Boots. Dd said she would just phone my dcousin instead to see if she had some. Little bugger planning another trip shopping and frankie and bennies I reckon cos cousin and her wife love borrowing her and spoiling her 😂😂😂.

Dry tonight, looking forward to bath and bed shortly, am so rock and roll. Dh been off all day so we been allotmenting then I went and planted my mams little border up so am knackered now.

Flossie I weighed myself yesterday. Was 13st 5.8lbs. Was 13st 0.4 lbs on friday afternoon. Then this evening before dinner was 13st 1.8lbs. Mad how weight fluctuates, especially I find with beer and too many carbs. Tomorrow will probably be back down to 13 0.8ish again on my scales, which is about 2lb difference to SW scales.

Does anyone know much about fasting? I can easily do 16:8, usually more like 20:4. The only thing I usually have is coffee, but I do have semi skimmed milk in it. I could possibly drop the milk if it's negating the health and weight loss benefits of the fasting. Keep meaning to ask on the weight loss section but some of the low carbers scare me 😂😂😂

Frouby I did the 5:2 diet a few years ago and lost 6kg in 2 months, and posted on the fasting board, the other posters were very nice generally. I often do 16:8 but with skilled milk in my tea. I always run fasted every morning. There are a lot of health benefits (or at least there are with the live they tested!) regarding memory, cholesterol, heart etc. Plus it does you good to remember what being hungry feels like!

Flossie44 · 17/06/2019 21:50

I like the feeling of being hungry. I just forget to push myself that far enough. Again..self harm!! Promised myself to be dry tonight..nope..nearly bottle
Of Pinot done!! Fml

Dion - hope you feel better soon. That sounds utterly crap. And to keep working....and then dd to have an injury at school!! Ffs you deserve that gin!!

Here.....ds (22) home for a week and driving me to drink!! Dd1 got chest infection. With asthma, that’s not fun!! Dd2....made me proud today..went kayaking! Pooed my pants watching her. She was too far away from her instructor. All I kept thinking was ‘if her throat slams shut then how the fuck can anyone get to her in time!!’ Ffs. Get sad that I have to think that. Why can’t I just watch her like the other parents. Instead I’m watching her willing her to bloody breath!! Fml!!

At this rate, I’ll never be bloody dry!!

longestlurkerever · 17/06/2019 22:44

Sounds like some pretty stressful days. I am so sorry you're still poorly Dion and NC4. That totally sucks. And poorly kids are a pain too.

Mil is here. Managed to switch to nanny state after 1 bottle between 3, which was an effort but hopefully worthwhile.

Weight loss will have to wait for another day, though I do badly need to. I hate being hungry though, I can't think about anything else.

MadameForest · 18/06/2019 05:44

Flossie with DS there it must be difficult to resist drinking. Is OH AF this week?

Frouby did DH make it through the evening AF? I think he wanted to be AF all week?

DIon I hope the medicinal G&T worked and you are feeling better today Flowers

Longest a third of a bottle of wine is good moderating, so well done there! 5:2 wasn't too bad because it was fasting just 2 days a week, you could eat 'normally' the rest of the time (normally not more than normal). 16:8 is easier as you just skip breakfast, but I'm not sure you can lose weight with that alone, although it helps.

MadameForest · 18/06/2019 05:56

AF last night

SegregateMumBev · 18/06/2019 06:26

Well done MadameF, me too! I'm enjoying the feeling this morning, hoping that will encourage me to do more.

Flossie44 · 18/06/2019 06:56

Madame - so the 16:8 is literally skipping breaky? That sounds so easy! It goes against everything my mother always told me though, that breakfast is the most important meal. That sounds a diet that I could maybe do. How easy is it to fast? I think I could manage it possibly better than exclusion diets such as SW or Atkins. I have epilepsy though so am not supposed to fast.
Well done on AF. I wish I had that proud feeling this morning. My one af day last week really did make me feel amazing the next morn. Don’t know why I can’t just do that easily!!

Frouby · 18/06/2019 07:15

Madame he was dry, but he didn't work due to car troubles so not really a test. He walks in from work, dumps his stuff then opens a can. We will see tonight if he is serious. He has also mentioned getting his bike out at the weekend. This kayaking club we have joined is multi sports, they do a biking club and running club as well as the watersports stuff. Am wanting him to get more involved with us as a family doing things so hoping he gets his bike out. My cousin does quite a bit of biking so hoping he starts going with her, even if it only for an hour a week.

He's overweight and like me all beer related. Has the typical northern beer belly going on, but other than his belly there isn't a pick of fat anywhere else. His legs and arms are like iron, he has a big, muscly chest and back. It's just the belly. Which is beer. He's a builder so a lot of it is culture of a few beers being normal.

We shall see. He's gone from saying he won't stop drinking because he enjoys it, to saying he will cut down, then this week wants to be AF so hopefully we are slowly getting there. I think it helps I am not drinking, in fact I know it does so more incentive on me I suppose.

Back down to what I weighed friday morning after a weekend of excess. My dsis noticed I had lost a bit last night which was nice. I think I just look healthier as well.

Flossie I never eat breakfast, if I do I am starving all day. When I do SW I find it easier to skip breakfast, then I can have either bread or cereal for lunch. But be careful with epilepsy. Maybe try and push breakfast back a bit and dinner earlier so you are eating over a smaller window if you want to try fasting. I usually have about 4 coffees over the morning, then eat around 1pm or can push through to 4pm if I am busy. But am not sure I can deprive myself of milk in coffee and food for that window.

Off to ponies this morning, then work this afternoon, then kayaking after school. Supposed to be his swimming lesson but we are skipping swimming I think to do kayaking as it's a special world cup themed session tonight. Think school, then swimming, then 2 hours kayaking will be too much for him.

Hope you are feeling better this morning Dion. My dd starts her mocks today, eng lit this morning then maths this afternoon. It's going to be a long 2 weeks.

CottonSock · 18/06/2019 08:03

Two days af. Prob not tonight. Going to see avenue q. Happy Tuesday everyone

MadameForest · 18/06/2019 08:43

Frouby I'm sure that the fact you have cut down a lot and are AF more than before will encourage your DH to lose his beer belly! It isn't much fun drinking alone when you are with someone else.

Cotton* well done on 2 days AF!

Flossie I don't like my kids to go without breakfast, but they burn a lot of energy and need it. Generally adults eat too much and breakfast is an easy meal to skip. The myth that breakfast is the most important meal of the day is the result of a big marketing campaign but cereal companies. You don't get fatter or more unhealthy by not eating breakfast.

Dionysa · 18/06/2019 09:02

Well, my one large G&T ended up being two. And I felt even worse as a result, so will try to do better tonight.

Frouby, I feel your pain re mocks. My DD did hers just after Easter. There was a lot of huffing, and not much revision.

I don't eat breakfast, though am sorry that DD doesn't. She fills up on crap later, whereas I enjoy feeling hungry.

Flossie, that must have been terrifying. Hugs.

Off to work again now. Was up at 3AM for an hour, coughing. It's vile.

leavingAqaba · 18/06/2019 09:20

flossie Mr Kelloggs and mates in the American breakfast cereal business did a real number with that ‘breakfast as the most important meal all the day’ story. And because most breakfast is carb based it does a nice job of raising blood sugar first thing in the morning when it’s most sensitive. As frouby experiences, once your metabolism is triggered by breaking overnight fast you tend to feel hungry a few hours after breakfast. I eat just like you frouby 4 coffees with a splash of milk until lunch. Whether 16:8 works for weight loss is dependent, of course, on what effect it has on your eating habits in the 8 hours. I doubt milk in your coffee has an overall negative effect. I follow nutritional research a fair bit (I have some related professional interests) and the health benefits of a true fast of 12 hours are impressive. The idea of giving your body a complete rest for 12 hours in 24 makes a lot of sense. It’s surprisingly hard to do though. Water only, no black coffee or herbal tea even.

leavingAqaba · 18/06/2019 09:31

X-post on breakfast Madam I sit my kids for breakfast daily too, largely cause I can’t control for lunch on school days. The older one (9) is often “too busy” to eat lunch. One thing he is not busy doing is bloody learning anything that’s for sure

HippyTrails · 18/06/2019 10:41

well done to all those AF or moderating yesterday :-) Back to Day 1 yesterday for me after heavy weekend but feeling good today today.

Been taking extra magnesium for around a week now & definitely seem to be feeling better, although it could also be that I have cut down on alcohol. Yesterday's deserved hangover was far far less than I deserved

Rightwayup · 18/06/2019 12:59

Back from no
Iday. Lots of wine last 2 days yuk. Now back to moderating. Good thing is i now know I can . Did 8 days with just 1 beer a day. Now going to try for 10 days. Day 1.

Flossie44 · 18/06/2019 13:13

Rightwayup - well done on moderation on holiday, that’s seriously controlled. So are you planning on moderation for next ten days or af?

Hippy - ooo the magnesium sounds interesting.

Cotton - well done on af

Dion - you poor thing. You must feel exhausted.

Frouby - hope dd’s mocks go ok. It’s so hard watching them go through it isn’t it. You feel the angst equal to theirs.

Pissed off with myself for drinking wine last night. Why can’t I do this?!?! I had about 2 thirds of the bottle. Just wish I could be kind to myself and let myself feel the benefits of being af.
Got a mad day today. Won’t get in til about 8pm tonight then need to cook dinner etc. Really need to try stick to the sparkling water. Or allow myself one glass of non guilt red. One glass would be good going for me!!

As for the fasting, I’m really interested in the 12:12 and would like to know more. That sounds pretty easy?! So how do results happen if it is?!!

NC4Now · 18/06/2019 13:46

I’m gradually crawling out of my illness, thank God. It’s been a lingerer. I still feel far from with it though. Can a chest infection affect your mental functioning? I just feel unable to plan or organise myself. It’s taken me three days to order an online Tesco shop, and I bet I’ve left half the stuff I need off.

Sorry you’re still feeling naff too Dion.

Hugs to all those dealing with mocks. Very glad we aren’t in an exam year this time.

My friend does 18:6 fasting and reckons it works. I suppose if you only eat within a six hour window you are bound to eat less.

Flossie44 · 18/06/2019 14:13

Depends how much wine and Doritos you can get into that 6 hour window NC4. I reckon I could do some damage if my 6 hour window was 5-11pm!! 😂
