New thread for the New Year.

Support thread for those who want to moderate and reduce alcohol. Absolutely no judgement, just advice and support. Absolutely everyone is welcome whatever your goals or hopes for 2019.

Am no good at clicky linke but there are previous threads and we look forward to continuing to moderate and reduce in 2019.

Especially today. 14 coming for 3 courses at 3pm and I have a raging hangover to start the year. Fml.

Paranoid - At detox clinic they prescribe high doses of B vits ( to help any nerve damage and to boost your nervous system ) so I would advise you get some decent B vits to take, also regular meals to help sugar levels and lots of water to rehydrate.

Good luck!

ParanoidorDoomed · 03/01/2019 11:52

Yeah I've seen my gp who has reffered me to somewhere, but I just don't want to keep drinking anymore so don't want to keep waiting.
I will get some vitamin b and see if that helps.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 03/01/2019 11:59

Did they suggest you are safe to go cold turkey or taper? Don't put yourself at risk if you have help coming soon.
If in doubt speak to your GP or drugs service. Vit B won't hurt you regardless.
It is tough isn't it?

ParanoidorDoomed · 03/01/2019 12:23

She didn't say either way. It was a gp telephone appointment as there were no face to face appointments available at the time.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 03/01/2019 12:38

If you are worried at all I would call your GP again.
Imo safest way to withdrawal is to taper and seek advice.

SinisterClownWatchingYou · 03/01/2019 17:27

Another voice for please please see GP. Alcohol withdrawal means you can fit, which is obviously very dangerous. Also Google your local drugs and alcohol team to see if you can self refer. The vitamins won't stop you having siezures, it's the sedative medication which does that.

ParanoidorDoomed · 03/01/2019 18:07

I'll ring the gp in the morning

waterandlemonjuice · 03/01/2019 18:10

Pmsl at make your own fucking quiche Frouby you do make me laugh. Top swearing!

Nc4 lol at thinking everyone had gone to the pub

Day 2 here - I reckon I can do it if I get past the getting in from work part, came in tonight and dh had made Thai curry (he’s still off work) but we ate and I didn’t drink so won’t now. And told a couple of people at work I’m doing dry January so that will help my resolve.

Sleeps from 10pm - 6 and feel better for not drinking. look it already too and someone told me I look well today. 🙂

Frouby · 03/01/2019 18:18

Definetly ring the GP Paranoid. My auntie was an alcoholic and I remember she was on some pretty heavy drugs when she got dry. With the best will in the world it's a big thing you are doing, and it's ok to get help.

Well I cleaned all my carpets. Dear God the filth. I had a carpet cleaner until about 3 months ago when it broke and looking at what has come out of them I think it's been broken for a while. Envy < Definetly not envy.

I obviously needed a drink after all that graft so am drinking lager. Not even ashamed at all. Well I am but am not letting it stop me.

Woke up with cramps in the night and I am the proud owner of the Period From Hell. Last one was a few days late, this one I suspect I might actually bleed to death. Told DH I am menopausal and he looked gormless and asked what that meant. Knobber.

He will know soon enough no doubt. He deserves to know every last bloody symptom. Apart from the bit where I miggt get a bit horny. He doesn't need to know about that, fucker will be waiting for me to jump his old bones.

Be a long wait I reckon. Am not going to give him the satisfaction 😂😂.

Am looking forwards to next week and things going back to normal. I am fat, bloated, lethargic and sick of bloody booze. Not sick enough to stop drinking, but sick of waiting til it's acceptable to have a drink.

Dh has declared he isn't drinking during the week after hes back at work. How we laughed 😂.

Fuck it button well and truly pressed.

Sick of DP and his effing fortnight-long "work" trip (which is basically a posh piss-up).

Sick of DD and her belligerent attitude (currently can't remove the bath plug because of her nails).

Sick of DS and his general attitude (complains about the state of the house, but does F all to help).

FML.

Frouby, we are period twins. However, mine has yet to decide whether it's going to be the benign kind or the 'you will die of anaemia' kind. It has spent all day deciding.

Dionysa · 03/01/2019 20:09

Oh. Now DD can't remove the bath plug because she is holding her hamster. Well, obviously.

The bath is full of water and otherwise unidentifiable substances, which may include fake tan and leg hair. My suggestion that she might put the hamster down in order to deal with the bath and its contents has been met with flouncing and the Evil Eye.

Oh, and apparently any normal family (aka Daddy) has the heating set to 26 degrees.

I love 14 yr olds.

Flossie44 · 03/01/2019 20:52

Omg
Frouby and Dion, you have made me Pmsl 😆
Frouby not letting dh know the horny bit is hilarious!!!!
Dion - sorry but the nail and hamster thing has made me wet myself!!!!!! My dd1 can’t do anything currently, (apart from
Instagram on her phone) because of her fake nails!! Ffs!! All I hear is ‘can you do xxxx cos of my nails’. Fml

Well drunk my half bottle ration and now the bottom half is winking at me sluttishly!! Think I’m gonna clear dinner up (dh is watching football and both dd’s have wandered off, leaving pots and pans and the table full of plates !!)

Dionysa · 03/01/2019 21:20

Flossie, if it's any consolation I have had an entire bottle. I blame the sodding nails and hamster combo. Grin

Dionysa · 03/01/2019 21:31

DD is now watching shit on YouTube, instead of draining the bath.

One of her vacuous YouTubers starts with "I am really stupid, but..."

I suggested she ought to stop at the point where she says "I am really stupid". It did not improve DD's mood.

The bath remains a sea of fuck knows what.

Rightwayup · 03/01/2019 21:43

Also period here. Know females are meant to sync but this is weird. Dionysas why don't you bin D P? Having such thoughts myself.

Dionysa · 03/01/2019 22:18

Rightway, this is an eminently reasonable question. The answer is that he is the only person I have ever loved, to whom I am not related by blood. FML. I love him to bits, though he is beyond undeserving of this. In his mild defence, I think he is probably autistic (have a bit of understanding of this, as one of my DC is, too).

Love the idea that our periods are synching. Grin Mine is still deciding whether it is going to floor me or not. The only thing to be said for this is that DP is away, so I will possibly be able to shag him senseless on his return. Not that period sex is impossible, obvs, but it's easier without.

Meanwhile, I have finished the bottle. Glad I am not committed to Dry January.

Flossie44 · 03/01/2019 22:21

Bottle sunk here!! Fml

Zofloramummy · 03/01/2019 22:35

I’m dry, in bed with camomile tea and the signs of an impending period Shock.

I may have to kill my dd though as I’m so fed up of her not going to sleep!!! Angry

Flossie44 · 03/01/2019 22:41

Snap. Both my dd’s are still wandering around apparently in need of life saving beakers of water!!

Zofloramummy · 03/01/2019 22:46

How old are yours flossie?

Flossie44 · 03/01/2019 22:49

Dd1 is 12, and dd2 is 10

Dionysa · 03/01/2019 22:50

Flossie, I wish we could have sunk it together!!

Why do DC have to wander around when any normal person would be unconscious?

Flossie44 · 03/01/2019 22:50

Ds is 21 and at uni

Flossie44 · 03/01/2019 22:51

Omg Dion....if I could sink a bottle
Of wine with you, no matter how naughty that is, is totally
Love it!! We’d have a ball!!

Flossie44 · 03/01/2019 22:51

(That’s totally the wrong type of post for me to write on this thread!! Confused)
