New thread for the New Year.

Support thread for those who want to moderate and reduce alcohol. Absolutely no judgement, just advice and support. Absolutely everyone is welcome whatever your goals or hopes for 2019.

Am no good at clicky linke but there are previous threads and we look forward to continuing to moderate and reduce in 2019.

Especially today. 14 coming for 3 courses at 3pm and I have a raging hangover to start the year. Fml.

Thanks anglaise that's a good idea about the photo.

longestlurkerever · 04/02/2019 13:25

Thanks for the good wishes everyone. So far so good and I have heard from DM who has accepted our position, even if she's not happy about it and is coming (alone) this afternoon. So a big relief even if some more awkward conversation to come. Suspect that might involve more wine but then will be AF tomorrow.

Hope your first day is OK NC4.

Waving to everyone else.

Frouby · 04/02/2019 15:45

Afternoon all

Angalisethose photos are really inspiring, they almost make me want to be dry tonight but sadly due to dh being a useless nobber I am going to indulge in gin.

Useless twat has had an intermittent problem with his car for weeks. Told him and told him and told him and told him to get it sorted but he's dilly fucking dallied about, it's broke down at work today and booked in for repair tomorrow.

Which means he need to use mine tomorrow. Which means I can't get to my hairdressers appointment. And also meant I couldn't take ds swimming tonight as he needed to take the lads home from ours after he got towed here by AA.

Am not a happy camper. Not least because I rarely book anything for me and hate cancelling stuff last minute.

So he's very at the top of the shit list. I can't even arrange a lift as the mechanic is coming to pick it up some time tomorrow morning. Wanker.

So am going to have a lovely gin and tonic. Have had to fly around all day doing the bits I was going to do while in town tomorrow so I have only half done the housework as well so that's annoying me as well.

Oh dear frouby that sounds a very frustrating day ☹️.

Those before and after pics were amazing. I did 3 dry days last week and even that made a bit of a difference. Inspiring stuff.

I've had a productive day. Have cleaned bedroom and clean sheets on, planning a nice early night with my book. I thought it'd be nice to have a vaguely pleasant bedroom to try and make the most of some early nights over the rest of this week. Usually it's piled high with 3000000 loads of washing waiting to be put away 😂. But today i can see and have even hoovered the carpet!!!

I've even baked muffins with the kids which I never do. Feeling quite smug with my home-making activities today. DH is going to wonder what the hell is going on though!

Dionysa · 04/02/2019 16:59

Checking in very quickly, as working.

Longest, I hope it goes (is going?) ok with your DM...

Purple, I'm impressed by your domesticity.

Frouby, ugh, ugh, ugh.

Anglaise, thanks for the photographic reminder.

Will have to be AF tonight as I have to drive DD to a sports thing. Probably just as well.

Zofloramummy · 04/02/2019 17:32

I’m Day 3 and I’m full of a streaming cold. Resisted the internal discussion about the vitamin c levels in red wine and I’m home in my pj’s. Will be dry tonight.
Sorry to hear that your DH is being a pain frouby
Hope the job went well NC4.
Waves to everyone else!

NC4Now · 04/02/2019 19:36

Glad your first day went ok Longest and glad your DM had accepted your stance.
I think I’d be throttling DH Frouby.
My first day was good too. The job is easy, people are nice and it will give a nice boost to my freelance portfolio, so all good.
By some miracle I am half a pound down at WW, despite two takeaways and four bottles of wine this week. Win!

PurpleDinosaur · 04/02/2019 20:54

I'm impressed with your dryness today zoflora colds always make me want wine, well done for holding out.

Glad your first day went well nc4.

I'm finished with Day 1/7 (aiming for a dry week then will re-assess), tucked up in bed now with my book. A 4 day run of boozing means today has felt easy to have as AF, as I've mainly felt like a saggy old wine bag all day. I know tomorrow will be harder and then I'm out weds, but planning to drive to pub to avoid temptation. I could walk there and I know weds will be a tough one with hankerings for wine, but I'm hoping I can avoid it.

Anyway thanks for the warm welcome to the group and wishing you all a nice evening whatever you're up to. X

Dionysa · 04/02/2019 21:18

Zoflora, you really have been through the wars. Not sure if being AF is much consolation for illness. Flowers

NC4, very glad to hear it went well today.

Purple, think mutual congratulations are in order, as we've both got through Day One (I had to, as driving this evening). Am going to bed shortly, to make the day end more quickly. Tomorrow will be harder, though.

Frouby, that is v bad luck about the hairdresser. I go about once every 9 months (Groupon), and would be v pissed off if someone else's twattishness caused me to miss it (because my hair is so awful by then that I start thinking of cutting it myself).

Dionysa · 04/02/2019 21:19

PS Frouby, you're going to have to start a new thread Grin. This one has filled up very quickly!!

NC4Now · 04/02/2019 21:39

I haven’t had my hair cut for almost a year. I had a radical chop when I decided I was leaving exH. It was an act of rebellion, like Jo Marsh in Little Women.
I’ve regretted it ever since.
I keep getting my roots done because I’m going very grey, but I need some styling now too.

Frouby · 04/02/2019 21:49

It has hasn't it Dion. We have been busy little tryers.

Hair do disasters avoided. Our very, very lovely mechanic came out tonight and fixed the car. Cost £40 and took 10 minutes. Managed to grovel to my hairdresser by messenger to put me back in for tomorrow and luckily she hadn't filled my spot (she always has a waiting list for cancellations). Well she had by moving her 9.30 to my 11.30 so she could start a bit later if no one wanted to take it and I have the 9.30am slot..

So alls well in Frouby world again.

I did still have a drink though, just 3 cans of lager which I really felt I deserved. Just been a really bitty, arsey monday.

Dry tomorrow with nice swishy hair 😂😂

Any suggestions for new thread titles gratefully recieved! Will this be thread 3 or 4? Have lost count now. Not accurately keeping count after 3 or 4 is what started this thread in the first place 😂😂😂

Flossie44 · 04/02/2019 22:11

Wrote a bloody long post with lots
Of hellos only for me to loose it!! Ffs

Frouby so glad all is well again. I would have hung him by the testacles for doing that. Mind you, I still would due to the thought process having been there!! You’ve totally got the upper hand now!!

Dion - club runs always make me drink more so I reckon you’ve done well!!

Purple - that’s good thinking re early night.

Anglais - those pics are amazing. Deffo can see the puffiness in my face and never had it before I drank like this!!

So was dry yest due to hangover. Tonight have moderated at half a bottle of white.
I’m really struggling with having dd home from school. Still no news on when she can safely be back at school. It seems no one will take responsibility. Multi agency meeting on Friday should shed some light though hopefully.

longestlurkerever · 04/02/2019 22:22

Good luck for the meeting Flossie. Well done Dion and Purple! I have had 1/3 a bottle of wine but still bottled raising contentious topics with DM. Is elephant in room but everything is amicable. Will try and brave it tomorrow.

Dionysa · 04/02/2019 23:10

Flossie, I'm so glad to hear news. Will keep everything crossed for Friday. And half a bottle is moderation. Swampy can have the other half. Grin

Good luck, Longest. Thank goodness your DSis is so lovely.

Frouby, I'm liking the sound of swishy hair after all. And as for Not accurately keeping count after 3 or 4 is what started this thread in the first place: 🤣🤣🤣

Dionysa · 04/02/2019 23:11

(Was about to go to sleep when DD appeared with a sodding infected ear-piercing. Cue much drama. So I am now awake again.)

Zofloramummy · 04/02/2019 23:21

I can’t sleep! I’ve tried with tissue shoved up my nostrils Grin. Given up and I’m drinking tea and eating rice cakes whilst job hunting.

My contract ends in March (end of) and there are currently 3 posts just gone up at my school so I will apply for one of them. But I’m just having a look at what’s out there, postperson, trainee estate agent and memebership person at the local National Trust have all caught my eye. The only downside is that they would all require saturyeorking which is a little difficult as a single mum Sad

Zofloramummy · 04/02/2019 23:22

Saturday working that should say! I’m very tired and have uncooperative thumbs Smile

Zofloramummy · 04/02/2019 23:23

Salt water for the ear should help Dionysa

Great post name too frouby!

MollysMummy2010 · 05/02/2019 19:24

My daughter has been an utter shit for the last three hours and I am now sat with a very large glass of red in front of me. 40 days today (other than one glass) and I think I am going to neck the bloody lot.

Canshopwillshop · 05/02/2019 22:11

@Mollysmummy2010 - I’ve come back to get you. Frouby has started a a new thread for us. See above - Roses are red, we like Becks Blue ... over on alcohol support.
