Do you have any weird rules in your household?

Mine is: nothing is allowed to be stored in the loft. Nothing. Not even Christmas decorations or suitcases.

I get the feeling that if just one thing is allowed to live in the attic, then all sorts of crap will be ‘stored’ there until we die.

Personally I don’t think it’s odd at all, but my DH thinks it’s utterly bananas.

Anyone else?

Only insulation in my loft so I'm with you .

Waste is space imo if you're not going to use it....

LapinR0se · Yesterday 19:57

No food upstairs
No animals upstairs
that's about it.

I have nothing in my loft, and nothing in the garage. They are places stuff goes to gently deteriorate, I think 😂

wet hands transfer any surviving bacteria etc to the towel

Perhaps your family need a lesson in handwashing
Do you put the lid down to flush?
Far more likely to get faecal bacteria on the towel that way

Are you here to participate, or pick posts to criticise?

Edited

I didn't criticise; I expressed an opinion. It isn't reasonable/healthy/environmentally sound to launder a towel after one use.
My apologies if I upset you.

Keep my bedroom door shut. It started so the cats couldn't get in and distribute fur all over the bedding. Then it was so they couldn't disturb my sleep. But now it's just a generic rule.

For my DC when they were very young. Don't lick the toilet!

BatshitCrazyWoman · Yesterday 20:10

My 'rules' (as I live on my own, they are more 'things I do') are:

Shoes off in the house

Nothing stored on the floor (I agree with a PP on that one)

I don't come downstairs to start the day until showered and dressed, bed made and bathroom and bedroom tidied.

I tidy as I go, mostly. If I use something, I put it away afterwards. This is seen as really odd by my current 'gentleman caller', but he lives in semi-chaotic untidiness, and is always losing stuff, so what does he know ?!?!

Perhaps you need a lesson in reading?

No washing is done between 22 and 28 of December and no washing on 31st Dec and 2nd of January. I am too busy going to Church and enjoying the festivities.

Big light in the living room only used in emergencies.

In any room.

I did; thank you.

No whistling. It drives me absolutely potty!

harveythehorse · Yesterday 20:32

No sitting on pillows (that's mainly my pillows to be fair)
No getting into bed in your day clothes (although DD is openly ignoring this)
No cutlery in the dishwasher
Dogs are free to go wherever they please, except at the table whilst we're eating

What?
Im pointing out that its been shown that bacteria transfer over the entire bathroom
Im very picky about hygiene too
Not criticising you at all Confused

CrispnFry · Yesterday 20:35

Not in the house but... if I shout ducklings, everyone has to get in single file behind me and walk like that until I say otherwise. Started this when they were toddlers abs it still holds now they are late teens!

MarxistMags · Yesterday 20:44

Dogs belong on the floor.
I'll go and hide right now......LoL

SapphireSeptember · Yesterday 20:44

No outdoor shoes past the hallway. I have slippers but I ask people to take their shoes off or wear shoe covers if they come in my house!

SwankyPants · Yesterday 20:49

Dont leave pegs on the washing line. They go in a tub and come indoors

TheRobotsAreComing · Yesterday 20:51

My mum used to always say "Tables are for glasses not for arses", for young and old!

Catdoorman · Yesterday 20:53

Agree about the loft, my loft is empty, I don't like things being out of sight and out of mind. It might stem from clearing my mother's house after she died, we thought we had cleared everything, then had a last minute check of the loft, It was full of fifty years of useless junk.

momtoboys · Yesterday 20:55

No gum or shirts with no sleeves for men allowed.

Have you RTFT, darling?
You seem to be the only one picking apart another person's post. I've called you out on it and you've doubled down.

Why is that? 🤔

🕵️

Do you think this is an AIBU thread where it's common to comment on other replies?
Are you new to MN?
Or, DO YOU JUST LIKE TO BE SMUG?

It could be anything, I guess. 🤷‍♀️

Wow how old is your dc?? Ive never met a child who doesn't enjoy a it of TV.

Dont get me wrong, he watches streaming services like Netflix and Disney Plus - but he has no concept of terrestrial TV. We have a large set plugged into his Xbox so he has access to cartoon etc.

Edited: but he watches it maybe once a week, and I never watch anything apart from documentaries and horror films on my laptop. His TV is mainly for gaming.

Oh this is great, I have a kindred spirit here! I can't remember the last time I even turned the TV on! It's only there for show and the occasional visitor who wants to see a match or something - the anti social one ha ha. Why I am paying for all those bloody channels I have no idea. Note to self....

(Just me here, no one else, which makes it rather ridiculous to have the bells and whistles TV service in the first place!).

I pay TV license, no idea why ))
