Do you have any weird rules in your household?

Mine is: nothing is allowed to be stored in the loft. Nothing. Not even Christmas decorations or suitcases.

I get the feeling that if just one thing is allowed to live in the attic, then all sorts of crap will be ‘stored’ there until we die.

Personally I don’t think it’s odd at all, but my DH thinks it’s utterly bananas.

Anyone else?

handbags maybe, but we unload the shopping bags from the worktop/table as it’s easy and the right height. Then spray it down afterwards.

Exactly. I've never really thought about it so deeply to be honest. You just put the bag wherever is convenient and then spray/clean before preparing food. At the end of the day we need some bacteria in our lives in any case to help with immunity. Studies show that small children who have grown up alongside pets have less allergies for eg.

Very happy for someone I don't know to think me paranoid whilst I think her behaviour is dirty.

I won't reply again. Neither of us is going to change anything.

Whether you think it is dirty or not is entirely up to you but, like I said, we rarely get ill. Excellent immune systems. There’s a lot of studies to show that eradicating all germs is not good for the immune system. Maybe do some research and it might help your paranoia. Loads of great scientifically backed studies. Good luck.

It only counts as helping if you don’t drop it. Works for little kids bringing in groceries and adults taking on big problems.

Until I joined MN I had never heard of shoes off in the house and I’m 65! None of my family or friends ever enforced this and it baffles me.

Ive read the countless threads on this and I still don’t get it. I’ve had my shoes on on all day at home and I don’t care!

I really upset my parents when we introduced the rule of taking off shoes in the house. My mother insisted it would make any visitors uncomfortable in my home and that she didn't bring me up to be so fussy!
Nearly all my friends automatically took their shoes off anyway. I had to buy her a pair of slippers to keep at my house to stop her moaning.

No food or drink upstairs. Sometime dh will take a glass of water upstairs if it’s really hot but that’s it.
