Do you have any weird rules in your household?

Mine is: nothing is allowed to be stored in the loft. Nothing. Not even Christmas decorations or suitcases.

I get the feeling that if just one thing is allowed to live in the attic, then all sorts of crap will be ‘stored’ there until we die.

Personally I don’t think it’s odd at all, but my DH thinks it’s utterly bananas.

Anyone else?

So where do you keep your Christmas decs etc? I couldn’t be without my loft. We keep all sorts in there. I swap my clothes out summer for winter and vice versa so store them up there, Xmas Decs etc.

I do too - maybe we're the only ones who have 'too many' clothes

I get this because if you eat them out of a bowl you don't get a mucky palm or back of the hand by fishing into the packet. Its not a house rule but I prefer to decant snacks

Edited

You shake the bag delicately, then equally delicately upend it (not totally, obviously, so they fall out) and fish them out with your fingertips.
But more importantly:
Frazzles ARE crisps!

No poos in the downstairs loo.
I also have nothing in my attic 😂

Only one load of laundry can be in progress at one time. The previous load must be completely dry and put away before a new one can be started.

No new storage. If something doesn’t fit into the storage we already have then you need to get rid of something else.

Why oh why

Rules are fine if you both agree to them. Insisting your partner can't put anything in the loft just because you've got some irrational hang-up about it isn't a household rule; it's just you being controlling for no logical reason.

If you kill it you eat it

No washing at the weekend - like clothes washing. I work from home, I put a wash on a couple of days a week (there’s only two of us) and then husband who doesn’t work from home thinks we should be doing that kind of thing; washing, hanging it out, dragging it back in. Listen - I did that during the week when you didnt see it happen - weekends are not wash days.

How bizarre
I do mine on one day at the weekend
I couldnt bear washing during the week
😂

Into which we do NOT pass solids...

I'm not by nature, but when it comes to crisps and either getting up to wash my hands or continuing to read MN in a chair, I can learn.

I also work at home and think that's the crucial difference. It makes a good break from work/my desk.

yes! Keep in clear to convert into a bedroom / gym.

I am so glad I do not live with any of you

Some of these are mad

MissNowt · Yesterday 16:54

We had a very relaxed home growing up. Only two rules. The main one was don't put the buttery knife in the jam. The other was take the shovel out of the coal hole before the delivery gets emptied in.

I work part time
Im often around during the week
Laundry has a day
I cant bear the random constant gathering of laundry and wash, wash, wash that people do.
Nope not for me, it makes it endless chore
I wash, dry and put away all on the same day.
Done

I don't have a dryer, so it always takes more than one day. But I also like the enforced 'break' from my desk it gives me; I sit down too much for work!

Not my house but I vividly remember a small child, when I said "sharing is caring" shouting NO RHYMING at me. His mum looked mortified and said that his rhyming drove her mad so she banned it! Grin

Why is this so cute?

b) frazzles ARE crisps

Err, no.

OK <<girds loins>> what are they then?
Or perhaps more to the point, how are they so very different from crisps that they need to be listed on their own?

WonderingWanda · Yesterday 17:18

I'm really wracking my brain for any rules in my house. I think no phones at the table / bedroom if you are under 16 is it. Lots of expectations but clearly a bit rubbish at enforcement.

IndysMamaRex · Yesterday 17:37

Sorry but that’s odd.

Purplecatshopaholic · Yesterday 17:47

Sorry op, you sound a bit batshit, lol. Why on earth would you not use loft space? In my house you can eat fruit with gay abandon, without worrying about committing heinous crimes. However each to their own, thankfully.
If I have ‘rules’ they are rooted in common sense, like don’t leave anything at ‘dog height’ that you don’t want eaten.
I think the shoes off thing is batshit too… hides

BeddysMum · Yesterday 17:48

I live in a tiny house and that loft is my saving grace! I would have to pay for storage without it.

Single50something · Yesterday 17:52

Weirdly when looking round houses last year we went to see some new builds and were told that now you aren't meant to keep anything in the loft?! Ours has loads of stuff in it as also agree with many that lofts are for storage
