Have you ever had a celebrity encounter or near miss?

Have you ever had any celebrity encounters or near misses? There's a radio DJ who I snogged years ago and shouldn't have. He was far too principled to take it further and I really admired that, funnily enough though I was upset. He's still on the radio now and I think about it a fair bit if I hear him.

There used to be a nightclub in Wardour Street called the St Moritz. It was just up from the old Marquee. Hang out there in the mid eighties and it was a plethora of musicians and celebs. Thank God there was no social media in those days. That and Notting Hill - rammed full of no good. 😀

Running back to work one lunchtime and nearly flattened Michael Caine - it was outside The Ritz and luckily he manly waved off the rugby tackle swipe!

I met Gary Glitter when I was 15. A near miss indeed!

I’ve got a brilliant one…Chris Martin chatted me up in a club (when Coldplay was very new, they’d just played the local student union). We had a little kiss…he told me he was with the band (I assumed a roadie or something) not that he was the lead singer! I saw his photo on NME a month later and was somewhat amazed that I’d got that close to the man with the beautiful voice.

DH also had a near run in with Stephen Hawking who zipped past him, he also while at university had a part time job in a pub where he once served Germaine Greer. Later he watched the World Cup in the pub with Dion Dublin (footballer)

That reminds me that I bowled out of a shop not really looking where I was going, straight into Dion Dublin. I apologised and then smiled when I realised who it was. He smiled back and said hello which was very sweet given I'd nearly knocked him down and delayed him longer than I had any right to!

We broke down on the motorway on the way to a rugby match between Saracens and Harlequins.
It was our 8 year olds sons first ever match. We were gutted! He was crying.
We were given a hire car and got down just as the stadium was emptying.
We thought we could at least just show our son the pitch so my husband spoke to security and they told us to wait where we were.

Five minutes later the entire Saracens team appeared. They took photos with my son. Owen Farrell (then England captain) chatted to him and signed his rugby ball.
Andy Christie asked us to message him on Instagram which we did.
A week later, Andy had organised free tickets to the next match which they won.
Owen took my son on a victory lap of the stadium and Maro Itoje gave him his rugby boots.
A very sad and frustrating set of events turned into memories for a lifetime all because of a team of very kind and generous rugby players.
I still find it very surreal dusting Maro’s boots which are on display in his room.

That is the most wonderful bad luck to good luck story arc I've ever heard. Love it!

Princess Anne tripped over my legs at Gatcombe Horse Trials.

Andrew Lloyd Webber wished my parents a happy anniversary as he bumped into us as he was coming out of a house. They were walking past with an armful of anniversary gifts.

I literally walked into Mohammed Al Fayed in Harrods. Didn’t notice who he was at first and just mumbled a generic “sorry”. My then boyfriend pointed out that in my oblivion I had somehow managed to walk straight through the security guards flanking him. Luckily they can’t have seen teenage me as much of a threat. (More the other way round, in hindsight).

I bumped into Al-Fayed in Harrods too. Didn’t spot any security, he seemed to be alone. Shorter than you’d expect (aren’t they all?) but wearing a really beautiful suit. This would have been before 1997…

I went to school with Jim Lee from Slade's son, late 1980s early 1990s (they lived in our village) met him several times in the capacity of being "a schoolmates dad" he was so quiet, private, nothing like you'd imagine a 70s rocker to be!! The first time tho, was at a friend's birthday party, the doorbell rang, I opened it as I was nearest & literally had my jaw on the floor. Have also met Chris Difford & Glenn Tilbrook from Squeeze & Erasure, there may be others, but brain fog + migraine = dead zone!! Lol

I was on a course at the Beeb (Broadcasting House) and Tony Blackburn was behind me in the tea queue. He really gave me the eye! (I was young and pneumatic then.) Perve. But perhaps he was just being friendly.
Also crossed paths with Dave Lee Travis on the stairs. He smirked to his friend and muttered something when he spotted me. Nice.

I thought none at first but then I remembered!!
Spent a whole evening with Cilla in a club (mutual friends) she was great and loads of people asked for her photo or autograph and she was lovely to everyone including me.
Evening with Pete Waterman (different mutual friends) like Cilla he was so nice to all the people wanting to talk to him. Hugh Grant brief hello in a different club.
Beverley Callard from Corrie asked me to keep an eye on her handbag on beach while she went in the sea.
Patted Gok Wans dog not realising at first that it was Gok.
Several royals at Garden Party.
A few more - but running out of time as Strictly on!

Had a twitter argument with one, it ended up carrying on via DM (they dm'd me first). In the end we agreed with each others perspective then they followed me. I didnt actually realise who it was until my husband was like omg. Celeb and I have never interacted again since. 😅

Years ago….My husband and I once had a drink with Pixie Lott. She was sat at the bar of the Westbury Hotel in London sat all by herself for ages and my husband dared me to ask her if she wanted to join us for a drink, and she did! She was very sweet and very gracious and we shared a couple of rounds before her mates finally arrived and they went on a night out of which she asked if we wanted to join…..and I said no because I had work the next day 🤦🏻‍♀️! Anyway their night out ended up in the Daily Mail the next day so I always think I could had my 15 mins if I wasn’t such a suck up at work!

We had a weekend in Paris and in the taxi rank queue I saw Tom Conti ( Shirley valentine fame and “Miranda’s “ Dad lol )
The queue was long but I I had to say “ oh it’s Tom “Courtenay “! 🥹😂 he was very gracious and waved and laughed bless him lol

I could write so many stories but some highlights are…

Age 13 in the 90s at Alton Towers watching PJ & Duncan aka Ant & Dec do a gig, met them afterwards - Dec was amazing & Ant a horrible meanie, have disliked him ever since but last year he waved at me at a concert at Wembley & I’ve forgiven him!

Age 15 in a pub in Blackpool - Eric Bristow sends over cocktails for me & my friend. We decline them then his mate comes over asking if we want to go back to their hotel, we said ewww no we’re 15 & he said Eric won’t mind!!!!

Met Ewan McGregor in a Waterstones in Glasgow, he bumped into me & said sorry then my face must’ve gave it away that I loved him! Had a random chat about the book I was holding. Then that night at my work at a Travis gig I had to show him & his wife to their seats. He gave me a massive hug & said ‘nice to meet you again’ and his wife glared at me for the whole show 😂

I saw the lovely legendary Suzi Quattro at bluewater shopping centre Greenhithe Kent
I was so in awe of her I couldn’t even ask for her autograph 🥹💖

At the Les Mis 25th anniversary London O2 sir Cameron Mackintosh walked past and I had to ask him for autograph. He was absolutely adorable .. I wanted to take him home lol .. my favourite encounter with a celeb would say
Also many years ago as a 7 year old in Great Yarmouth rumour had it that Sid James was staying near where we would based ( not sure if it was true ) i cheekily shouted out “Sid James “not even knowing if he could hear me in his digs ! and we heard “ GET LOST !! “” ! and we cracked up .. I’m 63 years old now lol if it was him I felt honoured lol .. ( prob wasn’t him but many had said he was , maybe just a rumour but thought I’d share anyway 😂)

saw lovely Bradley Walsh a few years ago in town when doing shopping and my colleague and me smiled when we saw him and he smiled back bless him not up himself at all ( was either visiting Joe Pasquale at that time or Panto I just can’t remember ( Joe lives in this area and we are seeing him yet again in Panto .. he’s great in it whenever we have )

This isn’t a great one .. lots of people don’t believe me and I don’t want to name and shame but just to say 2 differnt accidental encounters with a female soap actor who was signing charity autographs .. i politely asked for hers ( was really so happy to see her ) she asked “what’s your name “ I replied “oh yeah ….. “ and gave it to her “ and she turned around to someone next to her and rudely announced “ they think I know they’re name “ 😣 she didn’t smile or a anything .. also she was in boots the chemist ( late night one near our town ) it was empty ( closed at 8pm this was 7pm and not many in there at all ) and some young girls all excitedly asked her for her autograph .. “ no I don’t do that “ she said .. I was mortified for them 😡.. every time I’ve mentioned the name I’ve had such disbelief and insults so I won’t go there and I don’t want a pile on for her despite it all .. she was an extremely popular character. It still makes me sad .. I loved her character too .. very memorable but now .. it’s tainted her for me sadly

Yes. I have to say I do judge someone based on their manners.
