Have you ever had a celebrity encounter or near miss?

Have you ever had any celebrity encounters or near misses? There's a radio DJ who I snogged years ago and shouldn't have. He was far too principled to take it further and I really admired that, funnily enough though I was upset. He's still on the radio now and I think about it a fair bit if I hear him.

I have jammed with UB40 at a party. And Vinnie Jones pinched some of my chips!!

I was holding a wriggling toddler and walking through a doorway, the door handle slipped through my fingers and it swung straight into Cate Blanchett. She was very gracious about me almost concussing her.

I met John Travolta on a plane from Dublin to New York in 1987. I was 21 and going to work as a nanny in New York I was sitting next to him and we chatted a lot when I told the people I was going to work for about meeting him they were more excited than I was

Was in love with John Travolta
and can you believe I’m just watching strictly as I typed this in. the Saturday night fever song come on because it’s movie night theme!!! 😂wow I’ve just shouted out to hubby ! ( I’m very jealous of you btw 🥹)

Somewhere I’ve got a signed Polaroid of Johnny Vegas where the message says (paraphrasing as it’s 20 years ago!) ‘Justnot it’s a tragedy you will never be mine’ Met him on a shoot and had a laugh, and when I asked him for a signed Polaroid that’s what he wrote.

Stopped at a pub in the Wicklow Mountains, and John Hurt was standing at the bar with a blonde female. We were literally inches away from him, but I didn't let on because I knew my husband would be gushing over him, embarrassing us both. It was definitely him because he was talking with that distinctive voice of his.

100% manners cost nothing. It still annoys me when I think about it 😂 X

Yes. I have to say I do judge someone based on their manners.

Yep. Me too!

Yes, we got invited to Sir John Mills’ 90th birthday party at the Dorchester (iirc). We took our niece and her plus one. His other family were there - Juliet, Hayley, Adrian and his grandson, Krispin played in his band. Andrew Lloyd Webber played the piano, while one of his female singers sang the famous song from The Phantom of the Opera. We were all invited to go meet Sir John at the top table. He only had peripheral vision by then, but he watched our pretty niece walk away. There were people there like Susan George and her bf, Judy Dench, Faith Brown, etc.

DH was treasurer of a charity for the blind, and Sir John Mills was president or something.

We were also invited to a dinner for the same charity. I was sitting next to Andrew Sachs and his wife. He did Manuel especially for me! David Lodge, an actor was on the other side of me. He was in old British black and white films. There were footballers on our table as well, like Garth Crooks and a Southampton player at the time.

I’ve met Antony Horowitz a few times. He was a client at DH’s firm.

RObert Lindsay wasnt looking where he was going, barged into me when I was pg and sent me flying. Just walked off without a word, didnt even offer to help me up.

There was a nice guy who did help and shouted "look where you are going you wanker!" at him, so that helped a lot!!

😂 sorry didn’t mean to trigger you .. it’s so disappointing isn’t it ! I’ve written about a ex soap star in here who was so popular but so rude.. I’m scared to say her name because Shen I have in the past I’ve had awful comments saying I’m a liar etc .. but it’s true .. twice .. once was coincidental when I saw her being very off with two young girls ( the place was empty so no fears of being disturbed by the public ) x

I’m not surprised at all! I remember when he was on the big breakfast many years🙄 ago of course when they used to knock on peoples doors that were famous just to say hello very quickly and of course they didn’t have to answer if they didn’t want to, but I vividly remember him saying very narkily ( to I think the lovely late Keith cheggars chegwin but I might be wrong … “ AWAY GO “ ! … His voice on a tannoy .. and his comedy ( so called ) show My Family is absolutely pants anyway 😂awful show

Oh i was in Blackpool the other week, it was sad to see the decline, especially on the prom, some derelict hotels, did you know a fun bit of trivia about tom Baker, when he was younger he was a bit of a hellraiser, drinking in some seedy soho bars with artists, like Francis bacon and other dodge pots of the time...

Yes its very sad the way Blackpool has declined. Similar in many of the seaside towns of the UK, unfortunately 😕

I met Ian Brown once, he accidentally burnt my arm with his cigarette. He was lovely, very apologetic.

He lives in my village and I’d very nice. He’s often out and about so I see him quite a lot. I prodded Trudie Styler in the chest at a 2008 Madonna concert 😶, I really don’t know why I did it but she didn’t actually say anything.

That reminds me that I bowled out of a shop not really looking where I was going, straight into Dion Dublin. I apologised and then smiled when I realised who it was. He smiled back and said hello which was very sweet given I'd nearly knocked him down and delayed him longer than I had any right to!

Dion Dublin oh my heart ❤️ 🥰

I was waiting in line for petrol some years ago when a man walked up to my car and tapped on the window. He informed me that the pump I was waiting for was out of action and directed me to the other side. It was Tony Hadley of Spandau Ballet. Top bloke.

HiEarthlings · Yesterday 21:27

No real "close" encounters, no.

I served Fulton Mackay (the warden in Porridge) a fair few times, many years ago, when I worked at a garage and he was appearing at a nearby theatre. He had a very nice Jaguar and the first time I filled it up I didn't know they had twin fuel tanks so I only filled one of them... 🤦🏼‍♂️

I also bumped into Julie Walters whilst shopping in Tesco, then she ended up next to me in the cafe with her (then young) child. She was very down to earth.

Imdunfer · Yesterday 21:27

Went to a party with Peter Crouch. Well, he was a relative of the person who threw the party and was there. Lovely man, just like he comes across on the TV.

Nearly run over, seriously, literally pushed out of the way by a Range Rover with Andrew Windsor, then a Prince, at the wheel at Badminton driving through hordes of people in the shopping village.

My brother in law is an assistant director and usually gets the job of casting the extras for the shows he works on along with other things. Long story short, he called my husband in a panic asking if our daughter was available for a few weeks filming on his latest project, as someone had pulled out. We said yes and managed to square it with the school and she was filming for a good few weeks. Anyway, imagine my surprise going to fetch her after her first day and she’s sat in a cabin with Gillian Anderson and Lola Petticrew 🤣 I grew up watching X files and it may have been the best few minutes of my life.

got chatted up by a minor soap star 20 years ago, I had a boyfriend so not interested. He was later arrested for rape 🤢

Surgz · Yesterday 21:43

Err yes - treat them as equals, cos they are, stare at em a bit and don't let on you know who they are, works better if you actually don't, the majority arn't shy but do have fragile egos 😂🤣🤣🤣

Crankyoldwoman · Yesterday 21:45

I was bodyguard to Jose Feliciano, my partner at the time was sound engineer and he needed to leave the building, he felt safe with me as a decoy other half, still walked behind me though!

Surgz · Yesterday 21:49

Sara Holiday.. she does seem fake to me

gillefc82 · Yesterday 21:50

My parents became ‘holiday friends’ in the Canaries with Judy Holt and her family on a family holiday in the early 90s. She played Sister Mitchell on Children’s Ward. I’m sure my Mum’s still got a picture of the group around the pool, and she’s topless 🫣

I also met Fergie (Sarah, Duchess of York at the time) when I was 6/7, when she visited the town I lived in for the opening of something or other.

I’ve met a number of ex Everton footballers from the 60s/70s/80s/90s at sportsman’s dinners and hospitality events.

Not sure if this counts as ‘meeting’, but in summer 2006, I was in the bar of an exclusive Parisian hotel and spotted Patrick Viera the Arsenal player sat in a corner enjoying a romantic drink or two with a woman….a woman who was not his wife…!

Oh I used to love Jose Feliciano. Jealous!

I snogged someone very famous (can't say as everyone in RL knows this!) and his minder invited me to go back to his hotel. I was his 'type' back then (long time ago and looked the part! Not now lol), maybe I could've been one of his wives, he had lots!

gillefc82 · Yesterday 22:03

My best mate from High School got chatted up on a night out by Spike from the 90s/early 00s boy band 911. She turned him down flat and he got really offended and arsey with her.

And we both rejected advances from the bloke who played Ashley in Coronation Street over the course of one weekend during the same time period. But from what I gather, we were nothing special - he was notorious for playing the ‘Do you know who I am?’ card with any attractive young lady who crossed his path on a night out in Warrington town centre and thinking that cheesy line and his mediocre black BMW 3 series was guaranteed to make the knickers drop. 🙄
