Have you ever had a celebrity encounter or near miss?

Have you ever had any celebrity encounters or near misses? There's a radio DJ who I snogged years ago and shouldn't have. He was far too principled to take it further and I really admired that, funnily enough though I was upset. He's still on the radio now and I think about it a fair bit if I hear him.

When I worked in lingerie shop, the lady from last series of the traiters came in for a bra fitting, the one who farted sorry I forget her name, she was lovely I fitted her, she brought a couple of bras and said she'd been to the famous bra shop in London and they couldn't fit her, it made my day

I was rushing up Surbiton high street on my lunch break and saw someone i recognised so said - sorry in a rush, you OK? - and hurried on. It was George Best. Dawned on me driving back to the office.

I used to work on Baker Street and George Best used to drink in a pub round the corner back in the early 90s. I spent many a Friday night after work getting drunk with him. Lovely man.

I visited the Ann Frank House and Beyoncé and Jay Z were in our group. I didn’t recognise either of them and only found out when my husband told me on the way out. I was right beside her 😂

Do you remember Des Barnes from Coronation Street circa 1996? Because I confused him for my husband from behind on platform 7 (I remember it vividly) Bristol Temple Meads.
As a joke I rolled up a newspaper and shouted through the middle like a loudspeaker 'the train has landed stumpy' and Des turned round and said 'please I've been working all week all I want to do is enjoy my day off'. And then I had to explain I thought he was my husband but I couldn't get the words out and I called him ken Barlow.

😆😆😆

I sang Fairytale of New York in a pub in Kentish Town with Shane McGowan back in the day. I knew the words better than him 😂😂
Spent an evening in the company of Sarah Ferguson - awful, rude woman
Had a dance with Mick Hucknall in a club -
strange man.

I was walking into the bar that I worked at and all the staff were breathlessly calling out : did you see him? Omg omg!! I asked who?
It was only David Soul!!!
I walked straight past him!!
Didn't recognise him. Absolutely gutted 😭

Jeanette Krankie 🙄 in Dartmouth. Very tiny lady. Bizarre clothes, stood grinning at me as if to say "Yes.... you're right, it's me" when in fact I was just wondering what on earth she was wearing. As we walked past a big car pulled up and a voice shouted "JEANETTE!!" it was her husband.

Also Dartmouth, Jay Kay. Rushing around, glaring, seemingly annoyed he was visible to the human eye, jumped in a Hummer and drove off at speed. If you're reading this Jay, we weren't even remotely bothered it was you, in fact we didn't realise at all until you made a show of being annoyed anyone had dared look at you. Idiot.

I was watching tv with my DM and my mother commented on an actor being good-looking. It was someone I had snogged at a festival when I was a teenager.
I didn't mention it.

I met Tom Baker, the next doctors who. It was a carnival in my home town (famous Northern holiday town with lights)
He was appearing with the then Miss World who went on to marry Bruce Forsyth.
She was stunning, just stunningly beautiful .
Bruce was certainly punching, I can tell you!! 😅

i went to a charity show of the rocky horror picture show and robbie williams came on stage as Rocky. He was supposed to just wear the gold pants but was carrying a bit of timber at the time so had put a white t shirt on top (this is just after he left Take That)
afterwards we went to the stage door to see Anthony Head who was playing Frank who was so sweet and lovely and robbie came out with a bloke from Bad Boys Inc (remember them?) he signed my programme but was very obviously off his head and quickly left
How 90's is this post!

That's made me laugh! It sounds like something I would do.
Poor Des was just minding his own business 😀
I do similar with rolled up newspapers and kitchen roll tubes, but not to a celebrity so far.

Oh i was in Blackpool the other week, it was sad to see the decline, especially on the prom, some derelict hotels, did you know a fun bit of trivia about tom Baker, when he was younger he was a bit of a hellraiser, drinking in some seedy soho bars with artists, like Francis bacon and other dodge pots of the time...

Last fireworks night Dick, Angel and their 2 children (Escape to the chateau) came to watch as they're friends with someone in the village. I served Angel with 2 gluwein's 😊

I met Simon Calder (tv travel expert) once, we chatted for a while & he was very friendly and interested in what I said

Yeah, I met him too! I was working at a ferry terminal and he was very friendly and chatty. He even mentioned my name in his report about day trips to France!

I met Matt Haig in Heathrow when we were both getting a connecting flight to Dusseldorf in 2014. Im a writer. Hes a writer. He wasn't known in the US yet and he seemed embarrassed that I wouldn't know his work--and I didn't. But about a year after that trip someone shared a quote by him and the name reminded me of the Matt Haig I met a year prior. I looked the name up and confirmed that this WAS the man I met. I've enjoyed watching his popularity sky rocker here in the States. I'm reading The Midnight Train and he has zero clue who I am, but I am extastic that he's getting such good traction!

Both foot related, oddly.

When I was 12, I went to my first ever concert with my friends and before our parents collected us, we went to the stage door to get an autograph. It was Chris Isaak, of Wicked Game fame. He accidentally stood on my toe, and was so apologetic and lovely.

As a student, we used to revise and sunbathe on the grass in College. Stephen Hawking ran over my foot in his chair. He did not apologise, nor did his nurse, and it bloody hurt.

DH also had a near run in with Stephen Hawking who zipped past him, he also while at university had a part time job in a pub where he once served Germaine Greer. Later he watched the World Cup in the pub with Dion Dublin (footballer)

I've had various: Judi Dench, Shane Richie, Melvyn Bragg, 'Zodiac Mindwarp', Michael Foot (pissed out of his head - and he must have been pushing 90), Wattie from The Exploited (very friendly, as was Shane Richie), Tom Baker, the original guitarist of Fleetwood Mac (that's a story in itself), Lorraine Chase, no doubt more will come to mind. One that stands out is 'comedian' Ronald ('Ronnie') Corbett. Admittedly the encounter was fleeting, but it stayed with me. I was walking purposefully along a backstreet in Marylebone in 2004; Corbett appeared at the far end, no one else on the pavement. I was dressed up in a fancy shirt, creepers, & very ripped jeans. As Corbett approached/passed he looked me up & down & gave me the filthiest look, as if he wanted to commit murder. He was about knee-height on me. Absolute bastard. Funnily enough a work colleague also encountered him: he was playing golf on the hole after Corbett's party. Corbett "was effing & blinding the entire time... children were present. Nasty bit of work". 🤷🏾‍♀️

I've heard similar about Ronnie Corbett; my parents were on holiday in Tenby and took a taxi; the driver told them how unpleasant Ronnie Corbett was when he had him in his cab.

Craig Revel Norwood nearly walked into me when I stopped right in front of him. Does that count as a near miss?

😂 was it an air of sniffing the shit off those peasants 🤔

Halepeeny · Yesterday 18:57

I was also asked for directions by Ken Barlow from Coronation Street but I had absolutely no idea where what he needed was. I guessed and pointed in what turned out to be the right direction so that was also another near miss!

He was still doing so in the mid-1990s when I used to frequent the Coach & Horses, Greek St., & used to see him in there. I see he was born in 1934 so he was still going strong on the booze at 60 plus. And still with us at 92 or 93, clearly has the constitution of a ox 🐂

We broke down on the motorway on the way to a rugby match between Saracens and Harlequins.
It was our 8 year olds sons first ever match. We were gutted! He was crying.
We were given a hire car and got down just as the stadium was emptying.
We thought we could at least just show our son the pitch so my husband spoke to security and they told us to wait where we were.

Five minutes later the entire Saracens team appeared. They took photos with my son. Owen Farrell (then England captain) chatted to him and signed his rugby ball.
Andy Christie asked us to message him on Instagram which we did.
A week later, Andy had organised free tickets to the next match which they won.
Owen took my son on a victory lap of the stadium and Maro Itoje gave him his rugby boots.
A very sad and frustrating set of events turned into memories for a lifetime all because of a team of very kind and generous rugby players.
I still find it very surreal dusting Maro’s boots which are on display in his room.
