A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

So it turns out that the National Care Service is only going to cover at home care. What a fucking joke!

Only about 1/3 of care spend is on home care, 2/3 is on residential care. Burnham framed it as people not losing their house for care but today people don't lose their homes for residential care. It's a glossy announcement but doesn't really solve the core problem for many people. It is less comprehensive than Teresa May's proposal, basically a glorified meals on wheels scheme,

Burnham spoke about his grandmother lost her home due to the cost of funding a care home. What is is proposing wouldn't change that.

Ed & George did a Hot Take on Burnham’s speech last night. Basically - where’s the money coming from!

TRIP have done a take this morning too so I’ll listen to that to see what they think.

Interesting, yes it was pointless. Looks like the French have had enough so it will end next month. I think I read that it cost the UK something like £56K per migrant.

French immigration official:- The president [Emmanuel Macron] has made it quite clear, he did so when he met Andy Burnham – so that’s it, it’s over. In any case, that’s what I’m being told right now. “France has been asking for it to be a European agreement from the start but, as far as I understand, the other countries don’t want it.”

Oh yes and all that fanfare when it was announced. ‘Game changer’

Fizzled to nowt.

"Labour is also still seen as a boys’ club. Burnham is the 20th Labour leader in 126 years and they’ve all been men. They’re too blokeish while Reform is too boorish. The Tories are on their fourth female leader. Sex no longer matters to Conservative party members, even those living in the black labrador-loving shires."

"Badenoch, meanwhile, has won plaudits from Mumsnet for becoming the first leader to call for an immediate ban on social media for the under-16s. And for her honesty. No, she wasn’t going to stay up for late World Cup games, she had work the next morning and the children needed to go to school. Words most associated with her by voters are “OK”, “competent”, “good” and “strong”, while Burnham’s word cloud emphasises “trying”, “don’t know”, “useless” and “good”."

Nuthatch26 · 30/09/2026 08:58

So it seems that one of the Fairford suspects called 999 himself an hour before the farmer called the police. In interviews the farmer said she saw more than 5 people on the scene, but it seems the other people she saw were officers already dealing with the situation.

Trump suggested that this was a joint UK/UK operation which now looks possible.

Good news for Kemi. Most of my female friends like Kemi, even those who don't like the tories. They like her no nonsense, take it or leave it approach. My dds are both impressed too.

There is a suspicion that he’s all style over substance, a lightweight, with women worried about whether he’s going to turbocharge tax and spend. His remark earlier this month about social security coming above national security received a roasting.

Spot on.

I think they’ll just ignore the failing and not mention ‘one in one out’ again, it was Starmer and they’re misty eyed over Burnham now.

True. I don't think Kemi will let that lie though.

She must be chomping at the bit to get back to parliament and hold Burnham's feet to the fire.

Very good read, thank you.

I'll be glad when parliament is back properly. Time to get serious and deal with the issues most of us are concerned about.

Very much agree. Feels like Burnham has been on an extended summer break indulging all his hobby horses.

I want to see him address the country’s concerns which I believe to be: Immigration, Defence, Youth unemployment. I think these are the centre’s concerns. I lean right and would add public sector reform.

DebbieSavage · 30/09/2026 09:24

Not a lot of hoping going on this thread. You are such a negative lot aren't you? You should have some hope. We all need a bit of hope in our lives. If you people had less black labradors and just some more hope then you might actually enjoy life a lot more.

At least, I hope so anyway.

Exactly. Time to get off his soap box and get serious. His first few PMQs didn't go very well did they.

Hey Debbie. I liked your post on the AB speech thread but it’s just a few sold on Burnham’s emotion so just clicked off.

The day after it’s like a very self involved person demanded they listen to his personal woe. I don’t get it as a tactic and hopefully Kemi will stick to avoiding it.

Starmer would fold and mirror AB but she’s stronger than he was.

It seems circle-jerking is very prominent in labour circles in my experience. It's no wonder they are so out of touch, they must go around telling each other they are doing such an amazing job and everybody loves them.

They also seem to be eerily fond of their buzzwords too. 'Hope' is the current one if the conference is anything to go by. Vague enough to mean absolutely nothing too which makes it a perfect slogan.

It appears like a memo has gone out to Labour that the last 2 years will never be spoken off again. Burnham seems to struggle with even mentioning the Blair government existed.

Well, quite.

It is as if Starmer and Reeves never happened.
