A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Well, quite.

It is as if Starmer and Reeves never happened.

Maybe they are the left wing equivalent of a black lab and country pub!

Nooooo!

I won’t have black labs insulted like that!

Take it back!

It appears like a memo has gone out to Labour that the last 2 years will never be spoken off again. Burnham seems to struggle with even mentioning the Blair government existed.

And how people fought to keep Starmer. This site was nuts with posters defending them. Not a tear spent yesterday for Starmer and Reeves 😬

It seems circle-jerking is very prominent in labour circles in my experience. It's no wonder they are so out of touch, they must go around telling each other they are doing such an amazing job and everybody loves them.

They also seem to be eerily fond of their buzzwords too. 'Hope' is the current one if the conference is anything to go by. Vague enough to mean absolutely nothing too which makes it a perfect slogan.

Yes it’s like watching people in their comfort zone just warming their noggins around a word ‘hope’ as if that’ll do it. Just so removed.

It’s a hallmark card. I guess those MPs feel pretty immune anyway in their jobs.

Every time, I see "Hope Again", I think I'm hopeful because we only have 2 more years of this shit and with any luck vanity will get the better of Burnham and it will be even shorter. At the pace Burnham seems to move very little happen in the meantime.

Hedgerowmanager · 30/09/2026 09:51

They know things are so bleak that we are all desperate for a glimmer of hope.

So, they are using it.

dustabsorber · 30/09/2026 09:52

The right is split, though. Labour will back get in my constituency because the opposition vote is split between Conservative and Reform.

EasternStandard · 30/09/2026 09:53

We were told Starmer was the great hope too.

Let’s see how it goes. He’s ruled out an early GE so he’s got some reality to deal with first.

And I recall Starmer’s speeches being applauded with gusto on mn too. It didn’t last for him.

DebbieSavage · 30/09/2026 10:03

It is really interesting though as I get older, finding more and more things from my childhood and early adult life that apparently never existed. The first one I recall was honesty boxes, apparently they were some sort of mythical construct that people made up to support some sort of idea of a society that would actually pay for a product even if nobody was around to see you do it. Now the latest one seems to be pub goers and dogs, black labradors specifically for some reason.

I really dread to think what it will be like 20 years from now. Waiting politely in an orderly fashion for buses? No that never happened, we always just used to just bumrush the doors as soon as the driver pulled up.

LuckyHazelFox · 30/09/2026 10:04

Love the new labrador photo @Nuthatch26 checking into new thread from my far right countryside location.

NancyThompson · 30/09/2026 10:06

@DebbieSavage we still have honesty boxes round my way, which perhaps means that despite living somewhere that had the odd quirk of returning a Lib Dem MP, we're in fact all raging far-right extremists?

Well I am going to be about as nuanced regarding that as your average Labour MP and say yes you are all far right extremists and I hope you have a disused army base situated around the vicinity of your village.

No army base but there's a disused hotel, so who knows, maybe we too will be culturally enriched and change our awful ways!

Ditto; the honesty boxes and the LD MP. Within 200m of my house there are honesty boxes for eggs, plants, flowers, and asparagus (in season).

SecretDressAgent · 30/09/2026 10:12

Nice for Labour and the country that Labour is now led by a politician instead of a legalistic nobody. Very good indeed! But they will all be treading water until the budget.
E U reset: It won't happen. We shall still be in the long queue they have for foreign people at airports.

We have honesty boxes for home grown plants and eggs in my far right village. Apparently I'm a man so wouldn't entertain the thought of growing my own so it's good that my village folk think of me. For our readers of this thread: Nope, I'm a 55 year old woman very much sick of this destructive government. When we've got a major problem with out control immigration destroying the fabric of the country, I find it pitiful that a Labour MP with her double-barrelled surname, is more worried about black labradors. I don't know one person in my life who votes for this shower.

Honestly its just beautiful. But I suppose we don't deserve good things because somebody from a couple hundred years ago decided to hop aboard a galleon, sail across the vast blue ocean and plant the Union flag firmly on someone else's land.

Labour won't be happy until there isn't a single quiant little village left on this godforsaken island. I used to think that, as soon as I was finally done with a life of consumer driven modernity, I would quit the suburbs and go back to a rural life in Devon somewhere and live out the rest of my days in blissful ignorance. Fat chance of that now.

Ed & George did a Hot Take on Burnham’s speech last night. Basically - where’s the money coming from!

TRIP have done a take this morning too so I’ll listen to that to see what they think.

Just listened to Ed and George in the car. Very good. Makes perfect sense what they said about Burnham's speech sewing up a Lab/Lib Dem coalition. Ed's explanation of the proposal on pensions was very interesting. Burnham will be hounded by the tories on this, but he won't be able to counter it with announcements of huge savings paying for improved social care. Good stuff. 👍

There is one thing that really makes me think there is no hope.

Bloody fucking litter everywhere.
Everything is so shabby and unkempt.

It just kills one’s will to live.

Hellohelga · 30/09/2026 10:48

Pretendbafta · 29/09/2026 16:05

Think of it like….

You leased a car and the payments were going to increase in line whichever was highest x rate or y rate.

then the contract changed so it would be the lowest of x and y rate

you Would have extra money in your pocket that you otherwise wouldn’t have done

Pension increases will be unlinked from wage increases. So as wages rise and tax revenue rises, more is left in the government coffers and less is paid out to pensioners. The short term savings won’t be much but over the long term it will be substantial.

redange · 30/09/2026 10:49

I think I heard someone say Andy Burnham when he was Health Secretary who used to wear 'Gucci ' Suits. Now as Prime Minister he looks like Eddie Yates the Bin Man from Coronation Street early 1980s. Shouldn't a Prime Minister be called Andrew not "Andy" Pathetic. I saw his Speech of shite and I could not help comparing the bit where he said what have they given us nothing , to a scene from the film Peterloo about Manchester's Peterloo Massacre in 1819. This, being where a Working Class Mancunian gets up on Stage and says the exact same words as Andy Burnham ! He has copied the words from a film depicting 1819 Manchester and tried to replicate it in to 2026 ! The man is of the planet !

Nuthatch26 · 30/09/2026 10:51

Plenty of honesty boxes near me (Labour MP). Its how I buy eggs.
Country pubs full of four-legged fascists too.

Where I live the honesty boxes now have cameras so the vendor can FB shame those that feck the eggs. BTW it’s white people fecking the eggs.

redange · 30/09/2026 10:53

Off the Planet, but people believe him, I swear he must have watched the speech of the film Peterloo and copied the diction and the words from the scene ! I think he believes he is a modern day Henry Hunt, , though Henry Hunt was a better Speaker than him ! The man is the biggest 'Fraud' that I have ever seen. Compared to Burnham Starmer had Presence !

Can you explain 'fecking' in this context? I don't know what it means to feck an egg.
