My mum wears the same perfume my Granny wore, Youth Dew. Even when she was far too young to do so! I haven’t quite sprung for that (yet) but I have been on a mission to find a signature scent my children can remember me for, I think I’ve settled on Chanel Coco, while it’s not Youth Dew, I’ve clearly followed my female line in their love of old lady musky perfumes!

She had been a competitive ballroom dancer (appearing on the original Come Dancing!) and made all her own costumes and evening dresses. Both parents were very sociable and they went out a lot- mainly dinner dances. Her daywear was horrible nylon tops and crimplene skirts with American Tan tights. Never wore make up. Looked about 20 years older than she was (as I think a lot of that generation did- men and women).

Tweed in the 70s and Vanderbilt in the 80s. I'd love to smell them both again - I wonder if you can still get them and if they still smell the same?

Dune...she had an orange silk shirt that was gorgeous, and a black velvet jacket shot through with rainbow coloured metallic thread, it was amaaaaazing to little me. She casually dropped in the other day that she'd given it to a charity shop, I was OUTRAGED (even though it'd have been way too small for me!)

My mum wore Eau de Cologne. She was always given some at Christmas by German friends.

I got a tiny bottle of it in my Christmas stocking once. I thought it so sophisticated. I actually still have the tiny bottle with some cologne still in it as it was too precious to use it all up.

My mum was a young, lentil weaving earth mother in the 80s. But on special occasions she wore a black velvet body con dress, with a black velvet twisty headband, and Body Shop Dewberry perfume. I thought she was the epitome of glam ❤️

Mine was quite unconventional in wearing this magnificent, long bottle green coat and lots of hippy-ish jewellery, harking back to her 70s era.

Nowadays, actually at 70, she usually smells of dog, toast and unidentified hand cream, but I think she's very content with that 😂
