I was raised by my grandparents and I remember my when my nan was going somewhere special she'd be wearing Coty L'aimant creme perfume. She would let me dab a little on my wrists.

My mum had a very weird, punky 80s dress sense, so when going out she might have something backcombed purple hair and a black and white Keith-Haring print peplum jacket, a corseted red dress with a short bolero jacket or a long white slip dress with a long, rouched see-through white blouse over it - often something she'd bought from Kensington Market or Hyper Hyper. She would generally had something of a Siouxsie Sioux look about her.

I can't remember what scent she wore, but she definitely did wear some.

Anaïs Anaïs. My mother passed away over 20 years ago but I keep a bottle in her memory and a sniff of it takes me right back to her getting ready at her ‘80s dressing table. What a lovely thread.

Ysatis and Obsession.

Both perfumes i still wear regularly. She doesn’t!

Opium or Poison (headache perfumes!), some sort of silky blouse with unnecessary froofy bits, a pencil skirts and high heels. There would be some sort of “best” coat too.

Tweed, Yardley April Violets or Lavender. Her bags and drawers were an amalgam of all three. Oh and Coty L'aimant.

Lilac cream eyeshadow and “ spit box” mascara
Chanel no 5. All kept for very special occasions.
Coty L’Aimant or Morny Sandaliwood for every day, matching talc and perfume .

Armani She, her signature scent 🤗

She didn’t go put much as not much time/energy after working full time and being a single mum, but when we snuggled she smelt of Imperial Leather talc ❤️

My mum wore multi coloured mini dresses with halter necks, white pull on faux leather boots and Coty L’Aimant perfume. Always wore pale pink lipstick and had high back combed hair. 1960s.

Makes me laugh to see so many people saying Anaïs Anaïs - I’ve just spent this summer wearing it! I’m 38 and it reminds me of magazines in the 90s with the little perfume samples in them.

I still miss my mum even though she’s been gone for 30 years now. In fact I say you’re never too old to still want your mum. I’m 68.
