What do you remember your mum wearing or smelling like when she used to go out?

When I was young she wore Timeless, by Avon.

When I was a teen she wore Magie Noir and Opium.

Yes my mums 70 and I remember her hairbrush even smelled of perfume. She used oil of olay moisturiser which had a distinct sent and a really sweet chloe narcisse scent, then switched to rose scents.

My dad bought her a bottle for Christmas every year. She died in 2011 and I still have her last bottle.
They didn’t go out much when I was growing up as we didn’t have much spare money, didn’t live near family and so I think a babysitter was just too much extra money.
I loved dressing up in mum’s dresses and and pretending to be her. There’s a lovely photo of us when I was about three and she was putting lipstick on me. She was such a kind human. I miss her with every fibre of my being.

Givenchy Organza, I still have her bottle. She wore beautiful dresses and had a lovely pair of red peep toe heels with a velvet navy bow. My mum was exquisite, she is so missed.

Hermès Calèche. Hardly ever smell anyone wearing it, so if I do I’m immediately taken back to childhood and my mum kissing me goodnight before she went out. I’d give anything to have her kiss me goodnight again

I don't remember a specific perfume but Oil of Ulay and I remember she had this Swedish brand of stuff called Oriflame. They didn't go out much in the early days as my dad's elderly parents lived with us.

My mum smelt of Opium perfume and Elnett hairspray! She always looked so glamorous when she was dressed up to go out, it was quite the transformation from her usual jeans & t-shirt, ponytail and no make up everyday look 😂 but she was very beautiful and still is at 84!

Mum used to wear Chloe by Karl Lagerfield in the 1970s.

She had really nice smart clothes and was really glamourous, with her hair just so, and a nice gold ingot necklace and gold hoops earrings and gold bracelet. (In fact she had LOADS of jewellery, mostly gold.) Always wore heels, and a camel coat, or faux fur. We weren't super rich, and were working class, but my mum loved to look her best.

I definitely don't take after her, as I have tousled shoulder length hair that looks windswept half the time, and wear plain coloured or black t-shirts, or band tees, occasionally a shirt, and jeans. and flat shoes or trainers most of the time. I do like nice jewellery, Chanel perfume, and nice make up though.

And I wear nice trousers and a nice top and heels if I go out to a 'do.'

And I like accessories.

My mum very rarely went out apart from the annual dinner dance at work, a new years eve party, hen parties and going to my aunties once a month on a Monday night with all of the other women of the family.

She wore Youth Dew by Estée Lauder and was beautiful, a real head turner.

ETA - she was very classy despite having a rotten life with my birth father and divorced him at a time when divorced women were considered scandalous. She took us from a lovely house to a one bedroomed flat with a scullery for a kitchen, and an outside toilet, we’d have a strip wash every day and a bath at my grandparents once a week. One night I’d sleep in the double bed with her and the next night my sister would, the other night one of us would be in the single bed. We were very happy even though she had stays in our local psychiatric hospital at times. My heart used to skip a beat when I’d hear her coming home from work, from anywhere really, she always wore stiletto heels and the noise of them approaching our front door was the best noise ever.

Gucci Rush with this blue jersey Calvin klein dress she had and a pair of Stuart Weizmann heels. My mum was so stylish and stunning and she still is.

My mother looked like Ava Gardner. She had dark blue eyes and always wore bright red lipstick. She smelt of Chanel and her favourite outfit was a purple silk dress with a wide belt, fur shrug and kitten heels.

Back in the 80s -

My mum rarely went out as she was a single parent and had a full time job, but when she did, she always wore black - I specifically remember a silky, long sleeved black dress, sheer tights and black patent heels - and lots of Rive Gauche 😆

Me and my sister thought she was so, so glamorous - like someone from Dynasty.

Red lipstick and fags - but she was the opposite to Lilo Lil! 😂

This is a lovely idea for a thread. My mum also wore rive gouche and pronounced yves Saint laurent phonetically. She also likes Anais Anais. She wore a gold sequined blouse with shoulder pads, a black skirt, black tights and heels to go out.

My Mum always wore Rive Gauche I can smell it now, still have fond memories of reading to her whilst she got ready.
bBy today’s perfume standards, just thinking it’s a great & unique fragrance and my goodness has staying power.
She also layered it which I guess helped.
She would also wear L’Eau D’Lancome in daytime and I would love to get a bottle for myself now.

My sons are not on MN to contribute, but when I was younger (80’s) I wore White Linen by Estée Lauder. Had a spray of it a few weeks ago and was instantly transported back in time!

Chanel no 5 or Opium going out
Bodyshop Dewberry or White Musk for work
She used Ponds cold cream or Nivea on her face
She never wore make up and still doesn’t I don’t either apart from lipstick when I go out
She is 77 now and has a lovely complexion
