I have family in Piddington. As far as I can make out they don’t seem to be far-right thugs. They are very worried people. The general theme was ok, if they are there in large numbers, why the hell aren’t they locked up until it is proven who they are and whether their claim is legitimate.

Not one of us can waltz into another country without documentation. I think it is dereliction of duty to its citizens to allow thousands of men to roam the country without any notion of who they are.

It isn't a pull factor that is drawing them here. It is the push factor about the place they come from. And it's going to happen more and more as climate change worsens.

So you basically have 2 options.

ignore them and they either drown at sea or arrive here and disappear into the country. or
they are apprehended by the border force (with occasional assistance from the RNKI if necessary) and they are processed. Those that have a case and a right to stay can do so. Those that don’t are deported.

What other options do you want? Leaving people to die out in the channel isn’t humane and isn’t what this country is about.

The bigger issue is what happens to them whilst they are here before their cases are heard. That is what needs resolving.
People pratting about in balaclavas and making a nuisance of themselves does absolutely fuck all but make the situation dangerous. You cannot have Uk citizens turning up and acting in a violent and threatening manner to the police, border staff, RNLI members and those who have come here.

The other issue is that it's difficult to repatriate even failed asylum seekers because you have to establish their country of origin and you need co-operation from their country of origin. This is one of the reasons why third country options are increasingly being proposed.

Maybe if our upstanding citizens could behave like humans rather than animals the police wouldn’t need to be there. But when we are required to close lifeboat stations because of horrendous thugs the police are going to need to do all sorts of protection work that should be completely unnecessary.

I don’t think one single man is coming here because of climate change. They are fed constant TikToks of how much better life is here. I saw some migrant men on Lampedusa (Italy) interviewed, and their reasons for wanting to go to Germany were “house, Mercedes, women”.

You are being fed propaganda telling you that these migrants are coming here and taking all your welfare away from you. They’re the reason women and girls are murdered and raped, they’re the reason you can’t get a job or a school place or a doctors appointment. You hate them now. That is where the similarities arise. This country has been built on immigration going right back through the ages. The Saxons, the romans, the vikings, need I go on?
We have a rich beautiful culture that is made up of language, religion and culture from all over the world. Even a brief history of the UK would tell you that.

People coming here now does not change that. Especially people who come here and are sent back home. Culture survives because people choose to keep it alive or don’t.

A strong component of British culture was always to be a reliable port in a storm. A friend to all. If culture is being lost it’s because of the hateful narratives being spread not because a small number of people have crossed the channel in a boat.
