Small boat arrivals at Gosport tonight - huge police motorcade

This is the police escort for the latest small boat arrivals at Gosport tonight.

What on earth is going on with this country?

I don’t know how to link a video from Twitter. The videos show the full extent of the operation.

Christ this thread is depressing, lots of comments are racist, poorly informed, and lacking human compassion. Thank you to all the posters trying.

Small boats are at the lowest level
they have been for years. The 60 people on the boat stalked across the Channel included women and children. Sabotaging a boat while a volunteer rescuer was aboard is at best criminal damage and at worst attempted murder. The UK takes fewer migrants per capita than other EU states. Most migrants enter the UK lawfully because we need their labour.

What alternative is there to what we see?

If people get out of boats then the sensible thing to do is what people are complaining about. The alternative is not to escort these human beings (I prefer that term to 'illegals' even if the human beings are here illegally) and process them. They will then scatter and we will have no idea where they are.

It's almost impossible to 'stop the boats'. Even if we discarded our humanity and started shooting at them or letting people drown, the English Channel is massive and our Navy has better things to be doing.

We can't just 'send them back' because that requires France or elsewhere to take them.

The thing that would stop people boarding the boats in the first place is more aid to their countries of origin to make it less appealing to leave those places. But obviously the people most vexed by the boats are also the ones most opposed to international aid.

We’ve already established there aren’t any credible ones. I was told to do my own research. 🙄

You have a degree in obfuscation!

Seems a fair enough point to me.

No doubt the ‘own research’ features some uber twat on twitter utilising AI.

I’m unlikely to see it then. The stench of Twitter became overwhelming some time ago.

Does it look to you like the government are trying to stop the boats or encourage the boats?

I mean, once I saw they have pyjamas ready for the “asylum seekers“ I had real trouble believing they are not being welcomed.

This had been planned hours in advance. London police were parked up locally in the afternoon, in vans, waiting. The motorcade included a number of ambulances. God help anyone locally who needed an ambulance last night. Ambulance services are under immense pressure on any ‘normal’ day.

if they had enough time to organise this, they had enough time to get border force out into the channel and turn them round surely?

France is a safe country.

They aren’t interested in facts and calm reasoning. It’s more fun to put a flag on and go and have a shout. The stupid are taking this country over, not immigrants.

So you would have our border force go out, turn this boat around which is an inflatable with many people on board, and has already been at sea for 30 hours?
How exactly do they turn it around? Shoot at it? Hello Nigel.

It can be done, similar countries have. No one would go back to deaths at sea and overcrowded unsafe dinghies at sea for so many hours, which also puts women and children at extra risk.

CoventryCity · Today 09:27

SevenYellowHammers · Today 08:45

Genuinely asking, do you go down to the beaches to watch the boats unload and take note of the demographics on it?

Ricky Gervais did that. He went down to the coast, attended to the first ‘asylum seeker’ boat coming in. What a lovely man helping out. He said women and children first. Then waited. And waited. And..

But apparently they’re all “fighting age” men? I’m even more confused now.

EasternStandard · Today 09:32

Not many are women and children. They can still be at extra risk. The deaths at sea has mostly been these groups.

Labour are also making it harder for them to join later.

They managed to transport them to Gosport/Dover. Use the same method to transport them back to France?
Obviously not shoot at it ffs!!! That wouldn’t get them back. But we need to stop sending boats out to welcome them in.

I stated France is a safe country!

The only strategy that would work to stop the boats is to destroy the people smugglers business model by immediately returning all cross-channel migrants to France. It wouldn't take long before the message got through. Unfortunately this plan would require cooperation by France. Initially of course there would be an increase in migrants hanging round the Northern French coast but eventually the numbers would decline when it became clear that the cross-channel small boat route to the UK was impossible.

Please report any racist posts. The fact is no one NEEDS to make these crossings. People on these boats pay criminals to bring them across. They are the ones getting rich from this.

Small boat crossings are often reported on my local TV news channel. It is largely young men, occasionally women and children when they are able to get on the boats. More often than not the men don't let them on. One report showed a dinghy crammed with men and a women trying to get on the boat with the men pushing her away. They all had life jackets she didn't. In the water also trying to get on the boat was a father, his wife and 2 small children. None of them had life jackets and the children were clearly distressed.

We don't need any low skilled migrants to fill jobs. People are struggling to find work as it is. You only have to look at the numerous posts on this site where teenagers and students are struggling to find part time work.

Imdunfer · Today 09:36

Small boat crossings are falling. Does anyone believe that these professional people smugglers haven't found ways to get people in by evading the people detection measures in lorries? Or that if they haven't, they won't soon?

6,000 haulage compliant fines were issued in 2025 and those were only the ones where stowaways were found.

The only way to stop this, however unpalatable it may be to the "be kind" people, is to be unwelcoming when they arrive and very stringently police the black economy.

Ironically, multiple EU countries are now looking at Rwanda type schemes.

Threads like this make me so sad. These are human beings and people treat them like rats. The picture of the boat being slashed yesterday was depressing.

Perhaps do some proper research yourself rather than using AI. 39,000 people who didn’t have the right to stay in the UK were returned to where they came from in the last 12 months. Both those who returned voluntarily and those who were forcibly removed.
https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/immigration-system-statistics-year-ending-march-2026/how-many-people-are-returned-from-the-uk

Your link says:

A total of 8,427 people who arrived on a small boat between 2018 and the YE March 2026 have been returned from the UK.

The previous poster's figures are correct (she quoted 9,694 by YE June 2026). Over 200,000 people have arrived by small boat since 2018.

Your figures include visa-over stayers, foreign criminals and all-sorts, including people who left the country without even notifying the Home Office (discovered administratively later).

Every time there's a discussion about small-boat arrivals, the government and other Labour politicians obfuscate by quoting the total number of people who have been deported or left the country voluntarily, not the number of small boat arrivals deported/left the country. They should be challenged on this.
