What I don’t understand is: they are in inflatables. These are inflated on the French shores. Why don’t the French simply take a knife to them at the shoreline to deflate them, before anyone has boarded, before anyone is at risk. If you disable the boats at source, no-one can board them?

A few means hardly any, so that isn't true. Whilst the numbers crossing have fallen, over 17,000 have still come across in small boats so far this year. That's a lot of people to suddenly find accommodation for.

No one NEEDS to make the crossing. There are criminals making huge amounts of money from it.

Yes, and as long as the pull factors are there, they will come. Accommodation, food, clothes, ready access to doctors and dentists, activist lawyers, much higher acceptance rate for asylum claims than France, endless appeals, little chance of being deported.

The government are worried about the growing anger about all this and that's why they're going to clamp down hard. Which will just create more anger.

Which is exactly what should be happening. But the government aren't doing anywhere near enough. For ages I've been wondering why they are allowing it. I'm not a conspiracy theorist on anything else but this one has me wondering. More immigration in 20 years than in the previous thousand. Very strange. Can't blame Brexit either as it is happening all over the West.

But they don’t climb on them UNTIL they are inflated, do they? They need to get them AS they are being inflated? And/or before they reach the shore for people to climb on them? Ie they need officers in the water along the shore proactively disabling the boats.

ETA I see from google that there is a taxi boat system to get them out to the boats now, but there must be something that can do to prevent those? They need a large task force to act on this even if just for a few months to break the business model.

They escort them in and then you get nonsense posts like this with people spouting all sorts of drivel about conspiracy theories to bring people in etc etc.

They don't escort them in and then either one of two things happen

The migrants make it safely but undocumented / unregistered, free to do whatever they like.

The migrants don't make it because some racist thug takes knives to their boats, as happened the other day, and the police are villified for letting it happen. Meanwhile RNLI volunteers are once again put in harms way because these "concerned citizens" are actually violent bellends who would happily rape their wives and girlfriends whilst shouting loudly about brown sex offenders.

Nothing whatsoever stopping you from doing all of that. You don't have to wait to be told.

Often they leave the shore before that. Plus as more people are picked up it’s not always safe to join the chaos with a knife or whatever is used to slash it.

On the taxi boat issue they’re now leaving from much further away so the length of coastline is pretty big.
