If you take food on holiday what do you take?

I have a friend who always takes PEK and corned beef to make sandwiches. I mocked her, then was so happy when we went away and after being by the pool all day we could have a little sandwich on the balcony before going out.

DP and I are going away in November and for some reason TUI has given us about 10 suitcases each. I’m used to trying to cram everything into an under seat bag. But this time I’ve got checked baggage, carry on luggage, and a personal item. Don’t know what to do with it all! So I’m going to check a suitcase and take snacks.

If you do this, what do you take?

If you don’t and you think it’s ridiculous that’s fine but of no interest at all.

Check the rules for food imports, most countries are strict. T bags however should be fine.

i don’t take anything for in resort but I make baguettes up for short haul flights and take Pringles and our empty water bottles to refill past the gate

Pork in a tin is absolutely revolting btw as is salad cream

It’s been expensive for years, as is PEK. Chicken thighs used to be the cheap option too but now they’re more expensive than breasts.

No way I’d eat either of them. PEK or salad cream. Never mind together. Or on holiday!

I do remember having tinned ham, but I didn't know it was called PEK.

Teabags and maybe sweet treats of some description. Never anything savoury. Ooh, other than crisps perhaps.

For a late arrival, I pack a hip flask of gin, a lemon and buy tonic at the airport if I can find it otherwise ginger or lemonade.

I used to pack coffee until I started going to better hotels.

I generally buy a sandwich, crisps and sweets at the airport for the flight.

It is very tasty, because it is full of fat, and salt. Not the best thing going, for sure. I certainly would not eat it now. I don't take any food on holiday, as I like to go the local supermarket, and buy items, from there.

I think it’s okay to eat a bit of salty meat on holiday…

Don’t be hating on salad cream, it’s way better than mayo mixed with boiled egg and it’s fabulous in a chicken sandwich.

Right. Pringles, Haribo, coffee sachets, teabags, juice, PEK, corned beef and salad cream. DP will not believe his luck.

I like looking around the local supermarket so sometimes I buy a few 'room snacks' there. For some reason chocolate doesn't taste as good in the sunshine, so I don't bother with taking any from the UK.

Salad cream with Sainsbury’s roast chicken and sweetcorn in a sandwich.

Tea bags and hope there’s a kettle, hardly ever is in the USA…other places there is, China had bubbling samovars on every hotel floor (a few years ago now),

usually take a granola bar or similar on the plane as DH gets hangry.

Ah seriously you all with your salad cream are turning my stomach. Whatever it is about the meat in a tin I won't be putting salad cream near my mouth. Mayo or nothing.
Can I ask is 'luncheon meat' basically that round sliced pork onion tomato stuff you can buy? My dad used to eat packets of that and I haven't had that in donkeys either. Loved stealing a slice on him.

There is a kettle. It’s a part of Tenerife where lots of Brits go.

I take gluton free cereal bars in case I’m struggling to find anything gluton free or don’t feel confident that it will be safe to eat.

Fair enough! I’d find it hard to cut bread with a plastic knife though. I just find it a lot quicker and easier to grab a few snacks at the nearest deli and pick up the wine there. I can be in and out in under 10mins, five if I don’t dilly dally. Then no prep at all!

I have to add, along with my beans and tomatoes in my case, PEK might have been in there had I not been force fed it as a child. In our house, chips, PEK and beans was part of our weekly food cycle. It became one of those meals I swore that when I “grew up” I would never eat. My mum still has it now on sandwiches. We’re from South Yorkshire and most people my age will know what PEK is,
