Aggressive Mumsnetters

I've noticed that some boards are so much friendlier than others. What are the more hostile ones you've come across?

Sadly Relationships is often fairly aggressive. Where people go when they really need help. Some posters treat it as if it's AIBU.

Eg. Why did you have children with such an idiot?!?!?

Casualuser · Yesterday 08:54

Say anythjng about palestine on mumsnet and youll get shot down by zionests.

It’s an illness.

I’ve been using MN on and off for about 13 years now and I only ever venture into chat, AIBU, relationships and Christmas. I’ve been on a couple of others over the years but find barely anyone posts there. AIBU is obviously by far the most vicious- only create a thread on there if you’re made of steel.

Anything to do with neurodivergence, benefits or
immigration tends to generate aggression too.

And disability. That's terrible just now.

Thebutterflyslovemybush · Yesterday 09:08

I've hidden AIBU ages ago, it's nothing but nastiness and is rarely any use to anyone.

But accross the whole platform I've found more and more posts tend to have at least one or two just downright unpleasant people replying. I for the life of me can't understand why some of them take the time to type whay they do, their lives must be a little sad and empty.

I don't mind reading a good debate with people with opposing views, but when it's just personal vitriol, well the point is quite lost

Out on a limb here, but I find Style and Beauty to be incredibly aggressive and rude, particularly considering the topic. If you don't have a spare £1000 for a dress/handbag, one half pile on and sneer at items they perceive as beneath them. If you do have money, the other half pile on and sneer about it being a waste of said money.

That's increased. I think it's the active threads phenomenon where people don't clock which board they're on!

I think that the Royal Family board is completely unhinged so I stay well away from it.

So what's with that board? Is it people who resent the royal family who are aggressive ?

MsWicked · Yesterday 09:15

I stupidly made thread on AIBU, the first one I’d ever started about something that was really causing me pain. The responses were vicious. I changed my name and ran a mile.

Honest answer is Mumsnetters without children board.

I've never been on that board but god some of them are arseholes when they post on normal threads. Like we get it, you don't like children and think they should be banned from public. But this is mumsnet!

mulberrymilk · Yesterday 09:17

Anything about WLI on AIBU. Do not mention the potential downsides! But the same posters are sweet as pie on the WLI board threads as far as I can tell.

Definitely the feminism board. I’ve been on mumsnet for 16 years on and off and AIBU, chat etc can be but are usually a mix with some aggressive posters mixed in, the feminism board puts me right off posting and I just think they are a punch of angry bandwagon people who refuse to see any other point of view that is not their hardcore own. Very off putting and will win no hearts or minds,

I guess they realised that winning court cases was a better use of their time than 'hearts and minds'.

Tends to be the other way round on that board, people with children calling those without selfish arseholes and telling them they're missing out. Nastiness whichever way you look

No. They get ACCUSED of being male or a TRA.

Ironically, on a lot of threads - mainly in AIBU - about how horrible men are, with their raging aggression and desire to dominate, and how much they spoil an otherwise gentle, kind, respectful female-dominated forum, you invariably get a few posters (who are presumably female, unless they're coming on to argue against themselves) who will display those exact same characteristics that they're rebuking the male posters for!

I completely agree about Style and Beauty. Some posters get a right pasting on there for asking a simple question. Women are told, in no uncertain terms, that certain items of clothing are ‘mumsy’ or ‘frumpy’ or cheap. Often a poster has already purchased the item and just wants a bit of advice about what to wear it with. Some of the replies are absolutely brutal. You can give an opinion without ripping into someone else’s personal taste. Posters who try to pull someone up on their rudeness are reminded that it’s Style and Beauty, suggesting that you should bugger off if you don’t want to keep up to date with trends. And my point would be that it is indeed ‘Style’ rather than ‘Fashion’ in the title if you want to be pedantic, and these are often two very different concepts.

There are some great threads on there too. The thing is they used to be nearly ALL great threads, but the patronising, blunt force rudeness seen on other areas of Mumsnet is now more prevalent on Style and Beauty than it used to be.

Anti-monarchists wouldn't be on that topic. I'm guessing it's things like Kate v Megan or the Mr Andrew scandal.

BrezhnevsLuxuriantEyebrows · Yesterday 09:33

My worst ever attack on MN was on Property & DIY! I shared my experiences and thoughts that were relevant to the topic being discussed, and some mad person just launched at me like a lion who hasn't eaten for a month.

They Advance-Searched me, looking for a gotcha to 'prove' that I was somehow a nasty liar and hypocrite, found something completely out of context from a few years previously and somehow twisted it into a mad accusation against me and a huge slur on my character. I was genuinely scared that they might take it further and somehow try to find and doxx me in real life.

I'd had the same username for years, but ever since then, I've changed regularly. The bonkers thing is that the discussion was about the most mundane, non-controversial topic ever, and my views as expressed were along the same lines as those from other posters. Maybe that poster was just a sad, determined agitator troll, or maybe very mentally ill; and I just happened to be the one whom they found first?

Agree! They "see" me. Weirdos.

Sorry, but that's what S&B is for. It's for opinions and people who don't want to hear them shouldn't ask for them.

The strangest ones are the ones that jump in on a thread completely out of the blue with some really long wordy post, ranting and attacking. As if the poster has been lurking inside the MN computers, like some gremlin foaming at the mouth and just waiting to pounce. It can be quite funny in a weird sort of way. There are definitely a few stalky types as well. Sometimes I've noticed running battles across threads between certain individuals too. That's quite weird. You do find yourself wondering if some people are opening the gin bottle a bit too early in the morning.

God no

It lives and breathes obsessive hatred for Meghan Markle and prince Harry, with endless threads rehashing what Harry said or what Meghan wore 10 years ago, what they could possibly be plotting in their evil lair and how they are the worst beings to ever walk the earth. A clique of posters egg each other on and accuse anyone who doesn’t agree 100% of being paid bots.

Any other threads, including discussions about a republic or Andrew, get quickly taken over by the clique with whataboutery about Harry and Meghan

It's by far the nastiest corner of MN, a bit like the mean girls burn book.

Feminism I find robust but not nasty, and always very informative. I wouldn't visit this site but for the feminist board.

It’s possible to give opinions rather than resorting to insults.

Oh. Rabid royalists then. I must have a look. 😂Sounds quite mad. I wonder if their sitting rooms are filled with teapots with Charles and Diana's faces on them..
