Aggressive Mumsnetters

I've noticed that some boards are so much friendlier than others. What are the more hostile ones you've come across?

OP posts:

Lol.

It isn't FWR posters fault that nobody seems able to explain how a man magically becomes a woman.

If you are unable to explain this 'sense' then that's on you.

Men can’t become women it is biologically and legally impossible, such a pity the defenders can’t comprehend this.

summater · Yesterday 07:45

Well, obviously telly addicts and gardening are going to be more friendly than the politics board. Though the dogs board is very aggressive, never looked at the cats one.

DancelikeFredAstaire · Yesterday 07:50

The Step-parents board.

There was a recent thread where cat owners were absolutely crazy and it was really aggressive. I've noticed that a fair bit! Can't remember which board is was though...if it was aibu then....normal.

BendoftheBeginning · Yesterday 08:02

Complaining about women on a feminism board thinking sex has a material impact on how they experience life is pretty fruitless.

OTOH, I am often surprised by how gleefully mean people are in Style & Beauty. Many of them seem robustly disinterested in style OR beauty these days, it’s just an opportunity to have a pop.

Tbh, people like to go after the feminism board but irrespective of my views on trans people and shared spaces, i kind of think you know exactly what you’re getting, it literally says so on the tin if you like.

My objections are more when you ask advice on three year old fussy eating and get barked at responses ordering you to stop being a gentle parent and you’re the reason teachers are leaving the profession in droves and no wonder society is doomed.

Totally agree with you about the unconstuctive ‘gentle parent’ accusations.

I take your point about the feminism sex and gender board. I feel like one of the problems on there is that opinions are posted as if they are well-established scientific fact and if anyone dares to suggest that the ‘fact’ is actually not always true or even not true at all….. the poster gets bombarded with a tsunami of related ‘facts’ that are actually opinions.

dizzydizzydizzy · Yesterday 08:11

Anything to do with neurodivergence, benefits or
immigration tends to generate aggression too.

Funnywonder · Yesterday 08:20

peppermintteadrinker · Yesterday 07:30

That's what I mean. People know the majority view on there and there are frequent posters who just go on there to state the opposite view and have a row.

There's no nuance on whether you believe you can change sex because you have the sex realists v people who are more like a religious viewpoint. You cannot convince either to change. So people go there just to start trouble so they can then say how awful and transphoibic Mumsnet is.

That’s similar to my take on it.

With regard to the board with the most aggressive posters, I reckon it’s definitely AIBU. Very often the first response sets the tone of rudeness/contrariness/accusation and several posters follow. It can take a while for more measured comments to appear. I can’t help but wonder if certain posters seek out new posts to deliberately cause controversy with their immediate, usually one line answer. And of course a lot of OP’s want to stir up trouble anyway. AIBU has gone way beyond straight talking, robust interaction and has become confrontational and downright malicious. Unfortunately this mindset has invaded other areas of Mumsnet such as Chat and even Style and Beauty. Some posters just treat the entire site as if they were on AIBU.

Wowthatwasabigstep · Yesterday 07:30

Gosh, I know they won’t listen to sense so onwards we must keep plough….

You're soapboxing on a thread asking which boards are hostile. Did you misread the OP and other replies? Or, are you on a crusade?

EstherGreenwood63 · Yesterday 08:34

SnowFrogJelly · Yesterday 01:06

They hate trans people

That is a lie.

FunPartyIdeas · Yesterday 08:36

@DancelikeFredAstaire MN generally dislikes step-parents, situation irrelevant.
Apparently it's impossible to be a good one (I'd totally disagree btw - my husband is excellent at is, and has been for many years now).

Idontpostmuch · Yesterday 08:40

NonComm · Yesterday 00:34

I think that the Royal Family board is completely unhinged so I stay well away from it.

I've found that out 🙄

OP posts:
piscofrisco · Yesterday 08:43

I would avoid Politics or Step Parenting (if you are one). Step Mums get a right kicking.

HelloFreshly · Yesterday 08:44

Mumtobabyhavoc · Yesterday 07:11

Their pov has got f-all to do with feminism and everything to do with hate.

That sounds a bit aggressive. Have you tried nuance and kindness?

FlirtsWithRhinos · Yesterday 08:45

dizzydizzydizzy · Yesterday 05:25

The feminism, sex and gender board. There are no grey areas or nuance there. Rule number 1 is that all trans women are dangerous men. Anyone who suggests that that may not always be the case gets set upon.

Edited

That simply is not true.

Have you considered the reason some posters there get what they consuder a harsh reaction is exactly because they go in and make exactly the hyberbolic and emotive accusations that started being made on this thread?

Telling people that they "all" are motivated by hate or they believe "all" trans people are XYZ is obviously going to get pushback from people for whom those statements are not true, isn't it?

Wowthatwasabigstep · Yesterday 08:46

Mumtobabyhavoc · Yesterday 08:27

A crusade, oh how exciting when do we leave, I must go and pack.

In the interests of factual accuracy many on the Feminism board are tired but firm in their resolve to correct the misinformation around the be kind narrative.

Screamingabdabz · Yesterday 08:47

FWR posters are not aggressive or ‘haters’ but we robustly reject the idea that people can change sex.

And it’s not about ‘dangerous trans people’, it’s that statistically, men, as a sex class, are dangerous to women and quite often we can cite multiple examples of dangerous men who adopt a ‘trans identity’ to get away with great harm.

But please carry on with your erroneous assumptions and witch burning about angry frustrated posters who are passionately trying to protect important principles of safety and dignity for all girls and women.

FlirtsWithRhinos · Yesterday 08:48

Differentforgirls · Yesterday 07:33

This will inevitably be taken over by the trans haters.

Sorry, did you want this space to be preserved for you to lie, misrepresent and generally slag other women off unchallenged?

RowsOfFlowers · Yesterday 08:49

No it isn’t. The point is that how do we tell the dangerous man from the non threatening man who says he’s a woman?

This thread seems to be nothing but a thinly veiled pop at the FWR board rather than a good faith discussion. it says a lot that the main board discussing women’s rights is deemed “aggressive”.

Additup · Yesterday 08:50

Differentforgirls · Yesterday 06:56

This is an example. Never any nuance.

Edited

But there is no nuance in the fact there are 2 sexes.

Also, women need single sex spaces for their own safety and dignity. Surely you can see why people on a feminism board (where how your sex impacts every part of your life is discussed) would believe this?
