I've noticed that some boards are so much friendlier than others. What are the more hostile ones you've come across?

They hate trans people

Incorrect, it is really very simple in that we support the rights of women to have single sex spaces and services and will challenge those seeking to erode this. I refuse to acquiesce to the belief that you can change sex because that is biologically and legally impossible.

Politics. I prefer to keep my opinions to myself to avoid aggressive pile ons

This is an example. Never any nuance.

Which one? There’s been two for ages, after MNHQ split FWR in two. Caused quite the kerfuffle.

I love that you used, kerfluffle.

Most of the quieter boards like gardening, what we’re reading. Problem is, if it’s general sort of advice you need then you need to foray into the main bits of MN and while you will get lovely helpful comments a lot are just awful.

They hate trans people

Their pov has got f-all to do with feminism and everything to do with hate.

newseries · Yesterday 07:13

Tbh, people like to go after the feminism board but irrespective of my views on trans people and shared spaces, i kind of think you know exactly what you’re getting, it literally says so on the tin if you like.

My objections are more when you ask advice on three year old fussy eating and get barked at responses ordering you to stop being a gentle parent and you’re the reason teachers are leaving the profession in droves and no wonder society is doomed.

I returned to Mumsnet this January (looking for bf support after a 14 year break between babies) and was taken aback by how spiteful the tone of some posters had gotten. Mumsnet was a godsend after having my first not just for the infant feeding advice but alot of the threads at 2 in the morning. This time around I feel like the conversations have moved from intelligent, healthy usually balanced debate to all out nastiness with some responses to vulnerable posters being spiteful for the sake of it. I don't think this is unique to mumsnet, I've noticed this in comments across all social media platforms recently (whilst on mat leave) especially when it comes to hate speech which has never been as blatant as it is now

Invariably without any helpful suggestions as to how you actually do this!

The angry posters on the feminism board are usually male.

No. They get ACCUSED of being male or a TRA.

Theeyeballsinthesky · Yesterday 07:29

dizzydizzydizzy · Yesterday 05:25

The feminism, sex and gender board. There are no grey areas or nuance there. Rule number 1 is that all trans women are dangerous men. Anyone who suggests that that may not always be the case gets set upon.

Edited

No the rule is all TW are men and some men (NAMALT) are dangerously therefore all men need to stay out of women's spaces because no men come with "I'm a dangerous pervert" tattooed on their heads

AIBU is brutal at times, style & beauty at times, MN without children is understandably aggressive to insensitive & patronising comments from ppl who have children and feel the need to go there abd say how empty everyone's lives are without children 🤦🏻‍♀️

Gosh, I know they won’t listen to sense so onwards we must keep plough….

That's what I mean. People know the majority view on there and there are frequent posters who just go on there to state the opposite view and have a row.

There's no nuance on whether you believe you can change sex because you have the sex realists v people who are more like a religious viewpoint. You cannot convince either to change. So people go there just to start trouble so they can then say how awful and transphoibic Mumsnet is.

Is aggression always a bad thing?

Lol.

It isn't FWR posters fault that nobody seems able to explain how a man magically becomes a woman.

If you are unable to explain this 'sense' then that's on you.

Differentforgirls · Yesterday 07:33

This will inevitably be taken over by the trans haters.

illuminada · Yesterday 07:36

Differentforgirls · Yesterday 07:27

No. They get ACCUSED of being male or a TRA.

TRAs are usually male.

peppermintteadrinker · Yesterday 07:38

@Differentforgirls but that's typical.. someone makes a comment that Feminism board is full of trans haters. Member of that board tries to explain no, it's not hate against trans people... feminism members believe xxxx. And then it goes on and on ... because people won't let them have their point of view and keep calling them names and branding them 'bad'.

It is tedious when trans is brought into absolutely everything and I think there are bad actors on Mumsnet who want to set this row going all the time.

Differentforgirls · Yesterday 07:38

illuminada · Yesterday 07:36

TRAs are usually male.

Yes which is what I said. But if you disagree you get called one.

Been on it a few times. Never again. They are awful.
