I work in an evidence-based role and I'm afraid that I do agree that if you've said something has happened which might not be well known about, then it is for you to back that up, not to tell others to Google it.

When I'm chatting with friends I send a link to what I'm on about it I think they won't know. Like I said though, it's habit for me.

I’m with you. If it’s a polite request maybe. The usual ‘LINK’ and sending others off to google for them then I’m a no. I see it happen to others and hope they pass on the demands.

I think the reason why “ just look it up” comes into play is because so many people have a list of what is and isn’t an acceptable source. If someone posts a BBC link for example, that’s no use to me.

But if you've seen it, you know where it is and can find it more quickly than somebody who hasn't.

As I said though, I'm in an evidence based role where it's for the other side to prove what they're saying, not for me to find the evidence for them. I just think like a litigation solicitor at all times (we all joke about this habit as it can annoy us a bit too!).

I don't exactly care what the source is, I just want to see it. I'll then maybe look into it further if it interests me.

I wouldn't demand a different source, politely or rudely!

Every source has a different 'weight' though. That's the nature of the beast. (I wouldn't automatically discount everything from one source as others do though.)

Luckily now in RL, even tho’ I live in an area of complacent luxury beliefs by middle class people who have hitherto no understanding of working class people, some with some critical thinking abilities are starting to speak up against the insanity of this ‘government’.

I have just been able to log back in and have sent a report to MN with names and incidents. I don't know how I am expected to report every post as they happen because there are so many of them and to explain, in context, as they happen, is difficult. The AI post was not in the spirit and offered nothing except deriding me and its bloody creepy AF. I really understand now why name changes happen to start threads. I'm not stupid, none of us are. I do need to post a lot less so in that sense, they've done me a favour. @Nuthatch26 the dogs have had a run and I'm in the garden with a prosecco while watching the wonderful red arrows fly over, in their display x

And if you say you read an article in the Times say, you can’t just say that, you have to post a link to prove the article came from the Times. There was one in the Times last weeks, and the Daily Mail nicked it, and someone posted the Daily Mail link followed by the usual chorus of obvious comments about the Mail.

what is the deal with the AI posts by the way?

I mean, I’m aware that some posters are actually using AI to analyse content under individual usernames.

However, if they are just relying on AI to generate a summary that would be bonkers. I put my own username in and it was very surprised to find that I have been vocally supporting the Lib Dems for years. Couldn’t they fit their MPs into a black taxi at one point? And no, I haven’t been vocally supporting them and actually it’s particularly funny because I know very little about them. I don’t really consider them necessary to take seriously. Obviously I’m aware that they were the king makers in 2009 or 2010…. But I’d really rather just deal with that sort of stuff when it happens.

Anyway, it was bizarre because there is a huge percentage of my posts on here about books, TV, music and so on and AI did not pick up any of that. Asking “ tell me about this poster” generated a huge amount of stuff that absolutely does not link to my username.

I would ask for the last one, but in order to verify that the video is correct, the video that shows your dog signing - ideally with a new pen which I expect the dog to open from the cellophane to prove it it’s not been tampered with - would also need to feature you holding up a copy of today’s newspaper.

Hi all. Due to the volume of reports we're receiving about this and similar threads, we feel the need to step in.

We know political threads can be passionate, and people are allowed to disagree sometimes very strongly, but we need everyone to keep that disagreement about the issue, rather than turning it into something personal.

Some of the behaviour we've seen on these threads is pretty unpleasant and can feel like rounding on people because their views don't align. With this in mind, and for the sake of civil discussion on polarised topics, please don’t tag someone merely to make a point about how often they post, when they joined Mumsnet or what you assume their motives are. Don’t comb through someone’s posting history, speculate about their identity or activity elsewhere, or use AI to analyse their posts. And please don’t keep pressing someone to reply, or treat a lack of response as proof that they have no answer.

If you think a post breaks Talk guidelines, report it and let us look at it. Personal attacks, troll-hunting, goading and attempts to turn a thread against one person aren’t okay whatever the topic.

We will take action where posts cross the line, and we may take further action where we see a repeated pattern of targeting or provoking other users.
Please help us keep these threads lively and challenging without making them hostile.

It definitely has its uses, but in the last couple of days I have seen it -

Wrongly date a legal case by two years

Suggest that a piece of music is using phrasing from another piece of music and the artist wasn’t paid for it (I checked that one out pretty thoroughly because it was so obviously rubbish) also it tried to argue with me and referred me back to an album which I listen to a lot for “proof”. Trust me, if this had happened, there would have been a huge legal case.

Denied the existence of two local buses - our buses are pretty chaotic at the moment so I did actually really need to know!

completely conflated the storyline of one film with another film

I think there is still an issue with it picking up wrong information from Reddit and places like that.
