Which discontinued supermarket foods do you still miss the most?

Tesco used to do an extra strong garlic bread. The big big Tesco near me no longer sells it. I really miss it. When I eat garlic bead I want it so strong I lose my sight for 10 minutes. I want to be vampire proof for life.I want my sweat so garlicy it melts man-made fibres. That bread used to get me halfway there.

And Waitrose used to sell Spanish (Galician) tinned mussels which were well wicked too.

What do you miss?

M+S caramel cake from the 80s - all it was was caramel sponge and buttercream. No frosting, no fudge pieces etc Just straightforward nice cake. Have not found a replacement.

Ross's potato crunchies
Findus minced beef crispy pancakes

Sainsbury's prawn and coriander spring rolls
Sainsbury's chicken makhana curry

All the above are from years ago but still gutted

Edited

1980's was when my mum worked in the factory that made M&S cakes. Any that were cracked or deformed she could buy for 10p. Coffee and walnut cake 😍 They still do Angel cake but it now has an unnecessary layer of icing on the top.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/09/2026 19:52

Knorr Soups of the World, especially the Austrian herb flavour. Really nice packet soup.

”Lean Cuisine” 1980s range of low cal ready meals, really good veg lasagna.

M&S used to do this really nice diet
chocolate moussey pudding thing in a pot with chocolate cake in it.

Celestineisland · 06/09/2026 20:08

M and s used to do a Swiss chocolate bar in the shape of a long cube which has dark chocolate on the top and bottom and a kind of praline in the middle (and no sides) in the 90s. I still miss that chocolate bar so much and every so often try to find what it was called online, but there is no record of it!

Stairlifter · 06/09/2026 20:08

M&S ready salted potato squares.

Greggs used to do a chicken and mango bloomer.

Both much missed.

Wonderknicks · 06/09/2026 20:09

Sainsbury's used to do a veggie chilli with bulgar wheat instead of rice - delicious (mis 1989s).
Tesco (?) did a chilli lasagne with broken up tortilla chips on top.

Yokodoko · 06/09/2026 20:11

Nood wet cat food! It’s the only food my cats stomach will tolerate and now it has been discontinued 🤬🤬🤬

keepincool · 06/09/2026 20:12

Another M&S one - in the 80's they did an amazing turkey & ham pie, it was delicious. I've never been able to find another pie like it. It had loads of turkey and ham in a creamy peppery sauce, encased in shortcrust pastry. I've tried to recreate it myself, but haven't quite got there 😪

ETA - it was available all year round, not just Christmas.

Lidl used to sell frozen cauliflower cheese in a packet. You just took out however much you needed & shoved it in the oven & it tasted just like homemade but without the faff. Went to buy some yesterday & they'd disappeared. They didn't even have any fresh or frozen cauliflower so I had to buy frozen cauliflower & broccoli. If I hadn't promised to make cauliflower cheese I wouldn't have bothered

They still do this, I bought some recently

aintnothinbutagstring · 06/09/2026 20:17

M&S choccocino (cant remember how they spelt it) muffins - chocolate and coffee swirl muffins. Now they only have boring blueberry or chocolate muffins. If they dare discontinue the cappucino chocolate bars...
Also, Ocado when it was partnered with waitrose stocked a US imported Jardines chilli sauce which was amazing.

@Yokodoko - the wet food is still available in Morrisons

cornflakecrunchie · 06/09/2026 20:18

As another poster mentioned, the REAL All Bran. The 'new' one should be used to fill potholes.
Iceland's lovely little bags of cous cous & veg.
Frozen bags of rice with veg or herbs - the only one I can find now is Golden rice, which no-one likes... Yes, there are the microwave ones, but they all have that awful rubbery smell / taste, made by Pirelli or Goodyear?
Walkers crisps with different flavours, specifically Lamb & Mint sauce.. I'm so over cheese & onion & salt & vinegar.
Toffee Crisp with dark chocolate!
Oh & speaking of chocolate, or should I say Palm Oil specials.. :-(

Yokodoke · 06/09/2026 20:19

Oh that’s brilliant, thank you x

M&S food was called St Michael when I was a kid. Once a week mum would treat us to this minced beef roll thing for our dinner. It was made with this gorgeous rich shirt crust pastry.

I still miss that some 40 years later.

I remember that, it was so nice! From a similar time, M and S did a vegetable casserole with dumplings which was far nicer than their current version. I also miss from more recently their Gastropub meatballs in tomato sauce, I think they had crispy potatoes on the top.

I think this was the tressella bar I remember, or something very similar

bettyrubble99 · 06/09/2026 20:26

I'm going back to the 90s here. When my grandma looked after us, she would give us blue stripe tesco value irish stew in a tin.
It was absolutely sensational. Probably made from all sorts of ingredients but back then i didn't think about it. I'm vegetarian now so won't touch it.

But if you defrosted them they were just air and collapsed into a sad little puddle.

RIGHT! I always ate it frozen.

keepincool · 06/09/2026 20:27

@cornflakecrunchie M&S do a 500g bag of frozen white rice with petits pois, fried onions and sweetcorn. It's really nice

Sueandthegoldfish · 06/09/2026 20:30

I’m sure that back in the 80s M & S did cauliflower cheese with smoked haddock and it was divine. I hope I’m not dreaming 😂

ZeroSocialBatteryLeft · 06/09/2026 20:33

M&S prawn bucatini

I will mourn Sara Lee pecan danish pastry for the rest of my life.

HowardTJMoon · 06/09/2026 20:33

Heinz chocolate pudding in a tin. Not the bastardised, lightweight version with sauce they did in the 2000s but the original one they used to do in the 70s and 80s which was solid, dense, and the absolute best thing to have with custard.

ilovepixie · 06/09/2026 20:34

DollopOfFun · 06/09/2026 10:49

The M&S syrup sponge dessert. An individual pot of sponge, syrup, custard and whipped cream.

I'd being buying that dessert since the 1990's and they discontinued it about two years ago 🥹

Oh I loved that too.

Betterbeingdead · 06/09/2026 20:35

In the 60 s mum bought a block of frozen mousse can't remember who made it . You could get chocolate or strawberry or the favourite lemon . You sliced it like block ice cream . You could eat it frozen in wafers or thaw it to soft mousse .
Cadburys made a large ring cake Madeira type middle with a tang of lemon completely covered in chocolate in the 60 s/ 70 s

Heathertrott2 · 06/09/2026 20:38

I'm sure it will have been mentioned already, but I yearn for one last tea of Heinz Cheese and Ham toast toppers on toast with beans on top.

CarpeVitam · 06/09/2026 20:40

The original Chicken Tikka sandwich. Yes they’ve brought (a version) of it back but it’s nothing like the original! The current one has a curry sauce dressing whilst the original had a mint yogurt dressing!

Yes I , STILL miss the original!

Granny worked in a cadburys factory ( not the big one a small offshoot ) she brought home bags of mis shapes chocolate and chocolate biscuits and Cake including ( mis shapes) ring cake dead cheap
