Couples who Hold Hands

I’m interested in other people’s views on couples who walk around holding hands.

Do you and your partner do this?

We do, but I’ve noticed that I don’t really see others doing it and wondered if we’re perceived as a bit weird.

I think some people on this thread are so emotionally constipated- they treat marriage like a hostage negotiation.

They shake hands before getting into bed, retreat to opposite sides of the mattress like prisoners in adjoining cells, and only acknowledge their spouse’s existence again at breakfast.

Sex is presumably conducted in complete darkness, missionary position only, under strict instructions not to make eye contact, make noise, or accidentally experience a human emotion.

So the idea of holding your husband’s hand while falling asleep is clearly scandalous 😂

Agreed. I can’t help but think there’s additional issues at play which would explain the horror from them. It’s so strange otherwise. When we’re with people we love and are attracted to we want to touch them a lot. Whatever age.
My parents were kissing/cuddling/intimate into their 70s until my dad died.

It’s a small restaurant which has been opened by a winner of Masterchef. It was a nine course taster menu, and so the tables had been split into tables of two and the whole place sold out in minutes.

It was extremely good food and good on the chef for making a go of his talent and skill as a business. It was quite an intimate, relaxed feel given the restaurant is small and the tables inevitably close together, and I think it’s a bit shit to suggest that someone getting started in business and following his dream is running somewhere ‘downmarket’ because the tables were close together.

Nah, that poster is making total sense.

I dont understand why on earth you would deliberately choose to go to a restaurant with tables so uncomfortably squashed up together you are practically sitting on other diner's laps when you are so extremely bothered and angry by anyone touching their spouse in any way.

Seems an odd choice 🤣

Oh and the ridiculous addition of "Masterchef"?- now who is showing off and being "performative"?

The irony is practically writing its own punchline

Honestly, it’s just a Mumsnet thread. Nothing to get upset about.

I don’t give a fuck who is looking, it’s not performative. When we’re together we barely notice who is around us, we just want to touch in that moment.
Sooooo bitter 😂

I’m very happy with my DP but can let go of his hand for a couple of hours. It’s just odd.

I had a good chuckle at your post.

Well I’m pleased you’ve calm down and all is well.

No we don’t. I think it’s a bit odd to be honest. Very teenager “look look I have a boyfriend!!”

I saw Andy Burnam and his wife holding hands and thought it looked totally inappropriate when greeting world leaders. I’ve sent other politicians doing it as well and feel the same about them!

I totally agree with this. I can’t stand prime minsters and world leaders holding hand with their wives (almost always wives because they are almost always men). It looks so childish. Also, Harry and Meghan. The P&PoW don’t do it and I respect them more for it.

Me too, it was brilliant. Very impressed at how fancy it was.😂

Downmarket to fancy?

It’s called Aioli in Gateshead. If you’re ever in the North East it’s worth visiting. The food is stunning. The chef is extremely talented.

Brilliant, can we have more details please - I don't think you've shared enough! 😂

When we cross the road as I have zero sense of direction. Other than that - we still hold our DD’s hand and she‘s nearly 16!

So what if I share? What’s the problem with recommending a good restaurant?

I don’t know if you’re pissed or have maybe got some other issues, but you don’t sound stable. I think I’ll leave it here with my firm view in place that holding hands in bed or on the sofa is lovely, and holding hands in public places is ridiculous and unnecessary unless you are a teenager.

Yep let's agree to disagree, it's not a big deal!😎

Have a lovely evening. I looked at that restaurant. £55 for 10 courses is extremely reasonable - must have really squeezed those tables in to make a profit!

It was £39.50 for nine courses. It’s a relatively new business and the food was insanely good.

Tables a bit squashed together though? Still for £39? It might be worth the nauseating hand holding couples?
It's been fun, I'm going to stop poking the bear, but I will keep holding hands with dh.

It was entirely worth it, and it was still odd that a couple had to sit and hold hands every second that they weren’t eating. I don’t think you know what poking the bear means and you seem to becoming strange again in your replies. This is a thread about holding hands, so people are replying with their opinions. It isn’t even a controversial subject.

The restaurant ie. the other people eating there who find it odd to be sitting in a public space whilst people demonstrate that they’re in a relationship with each where they’re so in love that they can’t resist touching each other for an hour.

Also people who hold hands in shops. You’re blocking the aisles and it’s incredibly irritating. And please stop bringing your husbands to peruse the women’s underwear with you, and stop asking them to sit outside the women’s changing rooms.

Why would my husband not be able to peruse the underwear with me? If - as a assume - you mean 'looking at it on the hangers', which I don't really see as any different from me perusing the menswear section with him? Is he allowed in swimwear? Can I emerge from the changing room in a bikini or swimsuit to get his view? Just testing where the boundary lies 😉

As to peering into the changing rooms. Well yes, if one is in Primark or M&S I'd quite agree. On the other hand a lot of boutique lingerie stores fully expect this is one of the things that might happen. My own local one has two curtains with a chair in between for whoever is accompanying you if wanted. I fail to see what's weird about this tbh.

But yeah, more than 20 years here and we are hand holders so make of that what you will 😂

Thos thread has got so weird ...
