‘Low-key’

In a novel, for instance, you wouldn't like to read 'she flung open the windows in a rage' but would much prefer 'she opened the windows in a rage' instead? Doesn't convey quite the same meaning, does it?

“Waiting on” to mean “waiting for”.

My nan used to say that. No matter what disaster had befallen someone, she'd ask "But how is she in herself?" when it was obvious that so-and-so would most likely be as miserable as hell!

I used to do that, until a Spanish lady looked surprised and asked if I wasn't always honest. That cured me! 😂
